7. Anissa's Best Friend

The room was silent. White boring walls making the room look even more depressing than it already was. But Anissa would've preferred to see that, instead of the complete darkness she had to witness.

"Hey." Justin softly spoke, walking towards the bed where Anissa layed. She tried to sit up at the sound of his voice, with very little success.

"Please, just try to remain calm," He said, pushing her back on the bed gently, afraid of hurting her.

"So. . . you're Justin, right?"

"Yeah," He confirmed, sitting on a chair next to the bed.

"Anissa, it really hurts me to see you like this." He said, holding her smaller hand in his. And it was true, Justin felt horrible seeing his best friend like this, but what hurt the most was that she didn't even remember what he looked like. She had lost all of those joyful memories they shared. "Mainly because I can't stop thinking that this was partly my fault, but I swear I would never wish for anything bad to happen to you!" He continued.

"I know," She forced a smile. "And I don't blame anyone for what happened, I don't even know what happened. But honestly, it does feel horrible to be like this. My whole body aches in pain. I don't remember anything. And I can't see a thing. I don't even feel like this is all real. I don't even feel like a living human being. I feel more like a ghost with no past and no future. I feel lost in a terrible dark place. I feel afraid." Her voice trailing off in the end, tears streaming down her cheeks.

Justin had no words, what could he possibly say? He simply hugged Anissa, just held her in his arms for a while. When he did so, Anissa felt safe. She felt protected.

"You know, Justin, I have no memory of you or anyone. However, I feel that you're a great person. I feel comfortable with you."

Justin smiled at her confession. "Well, I could talk to you about your life if you'd like. That way, we can help you regain your memory, what do you think?"

"I'd love to hear that." Anissa replied.

"Okay, so first of all, we're both 18 years old and we've known each other for life. We have been best friends ever since I can remember." He started.

A smile formed on Anissa's face, she thought it was sweet to be close to someone for so long. "Before you continue, can I feel your face?" She knew the question was a little odd, but she wanted to picture an image of who appeared to be her best friend.

Justin didn't answer. He simply grabbed her hand and rested it on his cheek. She wasted no time and started exploring his face. Every part of his face felt so soft and smooth. She didn't dare say it, but his features felt almost perfect, he seemed beautiful. His nose was so smooth and felt like it was the perfect size. His lips were soft and perfectly moist. His eyelashes fluttered underneath her touch. She opened her mouth to speak, but closed it as she heard someone enter the room. Her hands were removed from Justin's perfect face.

"Sir," Justin started, but was then cut off.

"Leave me alone with my daughter." The deeper voice said. In a matter of seconds, the door closed yet again and silence fell upon the room once more.

"Hey there, baby girl." The man spoke, in a much softer tone than he had done to Justin.

"H-Hi." Anissa replied. She thought it would have been too weird to call a stranger 'dad' even though it was obvious he was her father, so she didn't do so.

"What lies was that boy telling you?" He asked, referring to Justin of course.

"He was simply telling me about my life, I don't think they were lies."

"Well, if I was you I wouldn't trust that kid too much, be careful." His words caught Anissa off guard, Justin seemed like a great person. He seemed like someone who would help her get through this, not someone whom she needed to be careful around. But she lightly nodded in response to her father's statement.

"Did he talk to you about your friendship with him?" He asked.

"Yeah, he told me how we've been best friends since childhood." She smiled.

"See, that isn't completely true."

"What do you mean?" Anissa asked, her smile had faded.

"You two were close friends, but drifted away a few years ago, when he left."

"Left where?"

"You see, Justin is 'worldwide' famous." He stated, rolling his eyes. Of course Anissa wasn't aware of his facial expression though. "His career started a few years ago, and your 'best friend' left your side to go pursue his personal dreams. You were sad for a while, but made a new best friend, Jake. You and Jake got along better than you and Justin ever did. Jake and you started dating a couple years ago."

"And you approved of my relationship with him?"

"Yes, of course. Jake is a great guy, and I think he'd be a wonderful husband to you one day, more towards the future of course. Right now, I want you to focus more on school than on anything or anyone else, that includes Justin. I don't want you to be too close to that boy okay?"

"Okay." Anissa replied, almost in a whisper. This new information surprised her.

"Alright, well I have to go back to my job but the doctor said you can go home tonight, so your mom will come get you."

Anissa nodded understandingly. As her dad walked towards the exit, he turned around and spoke. "One more thing, Justin doesn't know about your relationship with Jake, so it'd be useless to bring up Jake while having a conversation with Justin. Bye sweetie." He then walked out the door, leaving behind a very confused Anissa.
