Hunger Games Fan Fiction (COLLAB)

In the world of Panem, where Katniss' win never exsisted, its the 75th Annual Hunger Games. Which calls for a Quarter Quell. Just an hour before the reaping, Flora Caverley bumps into Katniss Everdeen. They instantly become best mates... but then the reaping tares everything apart.

1. The Reaping {Chelsea}

A horn blew softly in the distance.

Crap. The reaping.

I tried to to forget... and I actually did. I didn't really mean to, I just wanted to escape the worries of my name being called... then chucked into a bloodbath. Sure, I knew how to use a spear but seriously, nothing is ever promised in the Hunger Games. The reaping was going to start in at least an hour. I leapt off the branch and landed on the soft soil. I sprinted back towards the fencing that leaded back to District 12. I couldn't see who exactly I bumped into.

"Sorry..." I muttered.

The girl flashed me a smile. She was about my age with brown hair tied into a braid and grey sparkling eyes, "No problem. Late for the reaping?"

"Yeah..." I said, barely audible. I decided to speak louder, "I'm Flora. What's yours?"

"Katniss. Katniss Everdeen. We better go, huh? The Peacekeepers will kill us... literally..." Katniss chuckled.

I laughed and shook hands with my new found friend. I was scared of hell as we walked back towards our district. It was the 75th Hunger Games... which meant it was a Quarter Quell. A Quarter Quell generally means that its the same as the original games, but there's always a rule change. We both slipped under the fence and we walked towards our houses. It turned out that Katniss lived just around the corner.

"May the odds be ever in your favour!" I smiled as Katniss said she had to go.

Katniss nodded, "Same! It was nice meeting you, Flora."

We bid our goodbyes and I hurried into the house. "Where WERE you? The reaping is about to start!" my mother cried, flattening out my brothers trousers.

"Up in the trees..." Was my usual response, "But, don't worry, I'm here now."

I stumbled into my room and found a nice, baby pink dress lying on my bed. It was quite nice, with little floral sewing at the ends. I stripped off my dusty trousers and my grey jacket along with my coal black t-shirt. I slipped on the dress and brushed off the dust. I was afraid. Everytime I put this dress on, every reaping flooded back to me. Effie reaching into the bowl... pulling out a name... "Flora Caverley!" I shook the excited Effie tone out of my head, no, I'll only jinx myself. I don't want to ever enter that arena... EVER. No one does. Later, my mother and father rushed my two younger brothers and I down to the square. Where was Katniss? I couldn't see her any where. I held my finger out for the Peacekeepers and they pricked a small dab of my blood. I winced at the pain and scurried away to my place in line. I stood with the other age 17 girls, in fear of everything that was yet to come. A few rows in front, I spotted Katniss to the far right. She seemed like such a nice girl before, maybe if I don't get picked we could be friends.

Sooner or later, Effie appeared on the stage. Her outfit was outrageous, along with her hair. She tapped the microphone any grinned, "Welcome all! Today, I'll show you a very special film straight from the Capitol. Then, only then, will I choose two courageous young women. Yes, you heard me correctly. There will be no boys participating in from District 12 due to the rule change of the Quarter Quell! Boys, none of you will compete this year, maybe next year, perhaps?"

An erupt of cheers escaped from the boys section. What? This was totally unfair. I couldn't believe the decision of this. Why weren't we told beforehand? The anthem played and a large screen showed us the usual blah-blah-blah-capitol-blah-hunger games-blah.

And so it was decreed, that each year, the various districts of Panem would offer up in tribute, one young man and woman, to fight to the death in a pageant of honor, courage and sacrifice. The lone victor, bathed in riches, would serve as a reminder of our generosity and our forgiveness. This is how we remember our past. This is how we safeguard our future.

When the anthem died, my heartbeat began to speed up. I panted quietly and gulped as Effie grinned, "Oh, I just love that video! I think we're ready to select the first young lady tribute from Distict 12, yes?"

Effie's hand reached into the large bowl and scoured for a perticular name. She grabbed one with a swift movement and inched closer to the microphone. "Primrose Everdeen!"

Hang on a second... Isn't that Katniss' last name? Oh my god it's her sister. Primrose began her way up to the podium and I instantly felt shocked and sorry. She looked like she had no experience whatsoever. My courage began to return back, I was going to be the first volunteer for District 12.

"I-I volunteer as tribute! I volunteer!"

"I volunteer! No! I volunteer! I volunteer as tribute!"

I covered my mouth... WHAT DID I JUST DO?! Wait... hang on a second. Who else could possibly volunteering? I couldn't quite catch the voice to the person. Effie raised her eyebrows, "Double volunteer, hmm? Could those girls step up on stage?" I bit my lip and made my way to the stage. What the heck was I doing? I can't just volunteer! What's wrong with me! I take it back! I take it all back! I'm such an idiot, I don't want to volunteer! But it was too late now. I stood next to Effie and spun around, the other girl who I would soon go up against in the arena started to walk up the steps. No... No it can't be...

...It's Katniss.
