4. Running Away

Harry’s POV

Our breakfast had vanished and was currently digesting in our stomachs. I took a sip of what was left of my orange juice. We all had started with more than full plates and now they were completely empty. It was silent for a while until Perrie ruined it with an impressive, disgusting burp. She covered her mouth as her cheeks flushed.

“Perrie!” Elise exclaimed. Zayn and I laughed our asses off.

“I’m sorry! I can’t keep it in! I’ll have heart burn.” What we all loved about Perrie was that she wasn’t embarrassed. She did what she enjoyed and didn’t really feel bad about it.

The waitress brought us the check. Zayn and I split the check so that I payed half and he pays half. While Zayn was looking through his wallet, I saw Elise looking at her phone. She had her jaw clenched and she was gulping a lot. That meant she was mad. It had to have been some idiot pricks on Twitter. I didn’t bother to ask her what it was. I just wrapped my arm around her shoulders and kissed her temple.

At home, I sat on the couch with Zayn watching an odd cartoon. Adventure Show, or something like that, is Zayn’s favorite cartoon. While I watched the nonsense of the inanimate characters, I could hear Zayn’s cackle in the background. “It’s not that funny, mate.” I mumbled.

“Well, sorry we don’t all have the same sense of humor as Harry Styles.” I smiled and laughed.

“It’s not that funny, mate.” He mimicked. I rolled my eyes. In my peripheral vision, I saw Perrie coming from the hallway. She sat down on Zayn’s lap and he wrapped his arms around her waist. It made me think of Elise. Where was she?

“Pere, have you seen Elise?”

Perrie shook her head. “Not since she left, no.” I furrowed my brows. “She didn’t tell you? She drove off in her car somewhere. I have no idea where though.”

My stomach dropped to my ass. The only time Elise ran away was when the incident happened.

On May 14, 2012, we received a phone call from one of Elise’s old friends telling her to come to her sister’s home as quickly as we could. When we arrived, there were many policemen and an ambulance.

Jess was a beautiful girl. She was quite short, around 5’3. She had long black hair that complimented her green eyes well. She looked much like Elise, but of course much older. They were eight years apart. Jess had her first son at 19 and her daughter at 22. She might’ve bene a teen mum, but she was such a beautiful person.

No one knew Jess had an abusive husband, not even Elise. It was a shock to everyone. Jack, Jess’s eight year old son, said he heard Jess and Caleb, the ass wipe, yelling from downstairs, followed by a loud shriek. When Jack had walked downstairs, he saw Jess on the floor and Caleb at the door. Before leaving, Caleb said to Jack, “I’m sorry and I love you.” Jack walked to his mum and saw she wasn’t breathing. He had a knife jabbed into her back. Being the strong, smart little boy he was, Jack pulled the knife out of Jess’s back and called 911. He locked himself in his younger sister, Anastasia’s, room.

That day, Elise was beyond devastated. When we got home, she didn’t go to sleep until four in the morning. While I was at work, she ran away to her one of her volleyball friend’s home. She had turned her phone off for the four days she was missing. That was pure hell for me. I found out where she was when I saw her off the streets with her friend. I brought her home and have been trying to keep my eye on her. Leaving on tour made me more than nervous because we had no idea what she was going to do.

I called Elise. When she didn’t answer the fourth call, I called everyone I thought she would be around. I called Jack and Anastasia’s adopted parents, Elise’s coach, her aunt, friends, Eleanor, even my mum. Nobody knew where she was. I had no idea where she would be or why she would leave.

Just as I took my phone out, Niall called me.

“Hey, love.” That was definitely not Niall.

“Elise?” I asked.

“Yeah, it’s me. I’m sorry I haven’t answered your calls. I became frustrated and I threw my phone in a puddle.”

I stopped her for a second. “Wait, why did you become frustrated?” I asked.

“Well, I took a drive to get my mind off of things. I thought maybe going to see my coach and hitting a few balls around would help, but my car broke down on the way. Niall’s house wasn’t too far, so I walked here. I was wondering if you would come pick me up.”

I nodded, forgetting she couldn’t see me. “Okay, babe. I’ll be there as soon as I can.” I heard a small okay croak out from her. “I love you.”

“Love you too.”

I hung up and immediately grabbed my keys from the table. “Elise is at Niall’s house. I’ll be back in a few.” I told Pere and Zayn. “You both better not be doing anything frisky when we come back.” They laughed and agreed. I ran out the door. It was raining, but I could care less. I hope Elise isn’t too wet.

I was caught in a bit of traffic, but it wasn’t an issue. I got to Niall’s in fifteen minutes, with the help of speeding. I took our the key I have for their house and opened the door. Niall, Josh, Liam, and a girl were sitting on the couch. Elise wasn’t in here.

“It’s great that you’re here, Harry.” Liam said. “This is Cassidy Caverly. She’s a friend of Niall’s. You weren’t supposed to meet her until tonight at FB, but-”

“Where’s Elise?” I asked, completely sweeping Cassidy off the stage.

“She’s in the bathroom tidying up. We just arrive here, actually. She was sitting on the step waiting for us.”

I walked to the washroom and knocked on the door. When I knew it was safe to come in, I opened the door. Elise was in a shirt of Niall’s and shorts of Liam. Her hair was soaked and her clothes were on the edge of the bathtub. “You sat in the rain?”

She nodded and rubbed her hair in a towel. “I’m sorry to keep you worried, baby. I didn’t expect this shit to happen.” I walked to her and turned her so that she was facing me.

“Things happen for a reason, love. This was definitely unexpected. Don’t worry about it. It’s all okay.” She nodded and gave me a hug. “Let’s get home and get you warm, okay?”

“Okay.” She sighed and let go of me. “I’ve got to get ready for tonight as well. It’s one o’clock and I’ve got to shower, shave, do my hair, and makeup.”

I laughed and kissed her. “Your life is too complicated.” I said sarcastically. She laughed and took my hand.

I decided to properly introduce myself to Cassidy. “I’m sorry for being quite rude there, Cassidy. I’m Harry.” I held out my hand and she shook it. “This is my girlfriend, Elise.”

“It’s a pleasure to meet such a beautiful couple.” She stood up and brushed her skirt with her hands. “Well, I’m going to use the ladies room, if you don’t mind.”

I said my hellos and goodbyes to Josh, Liam and Niall and Elise and I headed home.
