The New Girl in Cheshire!

Nicole Johnson. No one special, just a girl from Cali. In 2010 she got accepted into a foreign exchange student program, and in just a week, she would be heading off to a new family, a new life in Cheshire. It doesn't take long for her to find someone she likes, but is the feeling mutual, or is it all a love game?

2. "Goodbye Family, Hello Family"

I woke up around 7:30am on Saturday, 4 days before I leave. I rolled out of bed and looked out my window, I unlocked it, and let the California breeze blow through my hair. This is what I'm gonna miss most. I think to myself. Waking up to the sound of waves.  I walked away from the window trying to stop the tears. I walked over to my window, the only piece of furniture left in my room. It had 4 drawers. One for my pants, one for my shirts, one fore my......under things, and one for my sleepwear. I slept on an air mattress, and my shoes and make up stayed on the shelf part of the mirror. I just looked at myself. I hated how I looked. I mean I had a nice body, and it worked for that. But I hated how I looked. My hairs is naturally blond, but it is turning brown, so it's brown until about 3 inches from the bottom. It's pure blond, so it looks like a bleach job gone horridly wrong. My hair isn't even, I have the worlds worst split ends. My arms are boney, and I am flat beyond belief. What 14 year old still wears the bra they got in 5th grade? No matter how many times I plucked, shaped, or waxed my eyebrows, they were never even. You know how most girls with blond hair have blue eyes? I have green eyes, and not the pretty ones that guys love. The ones that look like something you would find in the middle of the rain forest. My teeth aren't straight, but I am getting braces today. Don't even get me started on my nose. It was the perfect size, but the shape, now that was something. Everyone has that generic nose shape, but mine, no. The top of it has a slight curve, it looks like a mini skateboard ramp. The sides of it just look like random bumps of skins with holes in them. My mouth and my ears were the only things on my face that I liked. Normal lips, normal ears. Well, my lips were almost normal. They would be perfectly human if someone elses lips had touched them. I've had boyfriends, but I never kissed any of them. I've never had that special moment under a willow tree in the park watching the stars. That stuff just doesn't happen to me. I opened my pants... well shorts drawer and put on a pair of Hollister shorts my grandma bought me for Christmas last year. Then, I opened my shirt drawer and got the matching shirt, and did my make up. I braided my hair down the back and met up with my best friend Taylor. Taylor was with her boyfriend, Andrew. They were a match made in heaven. They kissed in 2nd grade when he got a valentine saying "U stol my hart, I m hur 2 stel urs." It was actually from me, but he thought it was from Taylor. They have been together since 6th grade when his mom showed us the picture. They looked alike, blond hair, blue hairs. Freckles on just their cheeks. Not to mention their shared love for working out. I wasn't "dating" at the time. Although, I did have a crush. Connor. He was in our little group and I guess we flirted sometimes, but my flirt radar was about as good as Britney Spears new album. Everyone said we should date and he had asked me out one time, but I said no. I'm sure why, I just said no.

Taylor, Andrew, and I walked back to my house and ate some Chocolate Pop-Tarts.  We always, always, always, eat Pop-Tarts. "Do you guys wanna go to the dentist with me? I'm getting my braces today!" I offered as we walked up to my level. My house was separated into the levels. The first level had the kitchen, living room, sun room, my sister, Alisa's, room, my parents room, and the nursery. The next level had the family room, which was basically a huge room with a huge balcony that over looked the beach.  My grandparents stayed in there. They payed to put a kitchen and a bathroom put into the room, so the pretty much never left their level. Then there was my level. It was by far the biggest room in the house, and the one with the best view. It faced the west so every night I got to watch the sun set over the beach on my two person balcony. Which would have been great if I had someone to watch it with. "Yeah, we'll go, what time is it?" Taylor asked. "It's at 12:00." I flopped on my bed and looked at my cat clock. I loved cats. Hands down. It was 11:00 exactly. "We need to leave soon, so what y'all are wearing okay?" I asked. They both nodded and I turned on the TV. "The people of Europe are all getting ready fro The X-Factor auditions." I was giddy! "Guys, I don't think you guys even understand how much I love Britain!" They both looked at each other, and laughed. "The British flag bed set, rug, and red, white and blue painted walls don't give anything away." Andrew laughed, but Taylor and I almost started crying. "W-whats wrong?" "Andrew, she is leaving in 1 day." Taylor said fighting her tears. "This is hardly goodbye party talk!" I laughed. "Oh yeah, you're party is tomorrow!" Taylor beamed. "Guys, come on down we are gonna leave soon, Connors mom asked me if he could come over for a little while." My mom called me through the intercom. Having rich grandparents was amazing! "Let's go!" I drug them downstairs.

When we got back from the dentist it was about 3pm. My mom dropped us off at Andrews house, they kissed goodbye and we walked back to my house. "I am starving!" Taylor said. "I know, we are almost home, I'll get my wallet. Do you have yours?" "Yeah, are we gonna go to the dollar store?" I nodded my head and we walked through the front door. "Hey, we are going to walk down to the dollar store!" I yelled to my mom. "Okay be back by 5!"  I ran up got my wallet and we were off. The dollar store was only about 10 minutes away, but we could spend hours in there. The owner, Jim, was our parents best friend, so he loved us. He got there at like 3:46 and left at 4:49. "Bye Jim!" We both said as we left with about 10 or 12 "thank you bags". We spent both of our whole allowances. So technically speaking, thats about 90$ on nothing but junk. When we got home it was 5:01. We snuck up stairs and spent the night crying, reminiscing, watching movies, and well, eating. We watched all the classic sleepover movies, The Notebook, Aquamarine, Sleepover, I love You Beth Cooper. You get the picture. We had fun. We fell asleep at 4:30am and woke up at noon the next day. We spent the day going around saying goodbye. I knew everyone, and everyone knew me. It was harder than I thought it would have been. I had made such strong realtionships and bonds, and I was leaving it all behind. Our last stop was Austin. He was my first boyfriend. We dated for a year in 7th grade. We spilt because I found out he was cheating on me with my sister. My 16 year old sister. At the time she was 14 and we were 12. He was over to see me, but I was with Taylor. So Alisa asked him is he wanted to see my room. They ended up having a make-out session and I walked in on them. It was hard. 2 weeks after we split, he got in a really bad car accident, and he has had brain damage ever since then. The doctors say he might never walk again. I knocked on the door, and his mom, Ally, opened the door. A faint smile crossed her face. "Nicole, Taylor! I guess you're here to say goodbye?" I nodded and went in for a hug. We both started crying. We had a really close bond, and mine and Austins break up didn't ruin that. "Austin is in the living room." She sniffed and pointed to the living room. Taylor and I took deep breaths and walked into the room. He was watching Spongebob and I tapped him on the shoulder. He turned around. "Ne-cowl, Tway-wor! You guise come to she mee?" We both smiled. He was adorable. "Yeah! I'm leaving for London today, Austin. I thought I'd come by and say bye!" He almost started crying. "You weaving Cal-e-fonia?" "Yes, Austin. And I won't be back for a long time. I'm going to miss you Austin!" By this time, he was crying. "Ne-cowl, I sowwe, for evuryting." I kissed him on the forehead. "It's okay. It's okay." We walked back to the door, Ally was still there, crying. "Mrs. Ally, I love you like my own family. I am going to miss you so much. Please, please let Austin know, I'm over it, and all is good!" She nodded, I'm pretty sure thats all she could do. We hugged one last time, and we left. I checked my phone, 2:00pm. "Damn it, the plane leaves in 2 hours." We started running to my house. I took a 5 minute shower, got dressed, braided my hair, did my make-up, and brushed my teeth! I did all that in under 30 minutes. "Mom, we need to leave!" We all got in the car. Taylor and I were jamming out to my Jonas Brothers cd! It only took 15 minutes to get there, which was good because we were almost late! "Bye mom! I'm going to miss you so much! Tell me again why Alisa and dad couldn't be here!' "Well, Alisa had that photo shoot for the new surf catalog, and your father. Nicole, your father found out about Sean. He filed for a divorce!" I smiled. "Thank God! I like Sean a million times better!" We both laughed. "Then you better be happy, because I'm staying with him! Honey, I'm gonna miss you so much! I love you! Be safe!" She started crying, which made me cry. "I love you too mom. I'm going to miss you so much!" We hugged, and I went over to an already crying Taylor. "Nicole, you are the besr friend anyone coould ever hope for! I love you so much. Please, don't forget me! I can't believe you're leaving!" I cried even more, good thing I wore waterproof make-up! "Forget you, how could I ever forget you? You changed my life Tyalor. I love you so much! You are an amazing person, and you deserve the best. Andrew, is the best. You are the best friend I have ever had, and the sister I always wanted! I love you!" *Flight 198 to Doncaster is now boarding* "Thats me!" I gave my last goodbyes and cried the enitre way to the plane.

"Ticket please." I handed ther ticket lady my ticket and boarded the plane. The flight was 11 hours, and I was asleep for 5 of those hours. This was the first time I had ever been on a plane. Dear God, the food was disgusting. I sat next to another of the exchange students, and we talked about what we wanted our familys to be like. Her name was Sophie, and we exchanged our English phone numbers. "I'll text you when I get to my new house, Nicole!" "I'll text you back!"  We both laughed. She was 13 years old, from Tennessee, and was dying for a change of scenery. She got a scholarship, and that was paying for 8th grade, high school, and half of university. She was going to some place in Ireland. Mullingar, I think. The plane landed and I went straight the food court. We had 2 hours to do whatever, so I got a burger, a drink, and some fried, with some money i had converted into English money. I sat down, opened my lap-top and emailed my mom. After I sent it I met up with Sophie and we walked around. We found a gift shop and bought our new family something. She got an oversized teddy bear, that said "Thank you!" on it, and I got a kitchen tv, about the size of a microwave door. I reached in my purse to find my wallet, but my hand hit something. I pulled it out and opened it. 3,000 euros! All in 10's. The tv was 20$ so I handed the lady 30$ and got 5$ back. *Flight 198 to Cheshire is now boarding* "C'mon, we need to go!" Sophie hollared. Sophies carry on was big enought to fit the TV in it, and we had to leave the bear with the stuartists. This flight was only about an hour or two so I stayed up to talk to Sophie. Her birthday is in 3 days. She'll be 14. She's had one boyfriend, and they broke up because she was moving to Ireland. He was her first kiss, and she really loved him. I could tell. I told her the whole Austin story, and she was in tears! The plane landed and we said goodbye, even though, it wasn't really goodbye. When I was on my way off the pilot stopped me. "Your new family asked me to tell you not to go to baggage claim, they're taking you there. Now off you go deary, wouldn't wanna miss the Styles family." I got off the plane and saw dozens of people holding up name signs. I looked for my name. Nicole Johnson. I looked around and I finally found it! "Hi, I'm Nicole!"
