22. Visitors To The Purple Tent

The doors of the purple velvet tent rippled slightly in the breeze. Kytra was woken by footsteps outside, which was unusual. She was a very deep sleeper.

A strange chill ran up her spine. Why was she so cold all of a sudden? It was just some people walking outside her tent...

"This is the place," said a voice. It seemed calm, but Kytra could sense the fear behind it.

"Are you sure?" asked another. This voice was pure and high - a young girl, by the sounds of it. The shivering grew worse, until Kytra assumed she must be having some sort of fit. Over the chattering of her teeth, she could hear quick, heavy footsteps and the two people murmuring outside her tent.

"Pike!" one of them exclaimed.

She remembered that name, though she couldn't for the life of her think where she had heard it. Suddenly...

Pike had been the one outside her tent on the day of the first dragon attack! He was the one she had warned!

"What do we do now?" asked the female voice.

"Knock?" asked the first.

"It's a tent - it's made out of material," said a different voice, irritably. Kytra assumed it was the one called "Pike".

"Look - if there's really - a, a witch in there, they'll know we're here."

And before Kytra could stop herself, she got up and opened the door flap.

"Prophetess might be a more accurate term," she smiled.

The three people gaped at her. They were all children; though older and taller than herself. As she had predicted , there were two boys and one girl, and all three of them looked rather scared.

Not entirely sure what she was doing, or what she was getting herself into, Kytra said politely,

"Won't you come in?"
