8. The Vision And The Thought

Kytra heard the screams from outside her tent, but didn't flinch. She knew that it would all be over soon.

She leant back, and ran her hand across the purple velvet of the tent. It was her home, and had been forever. She couldn't quite remember her parents, but mostly tried to focus on the future. However, as she knew parts of what was going to happen in the future, this got confusing.

She sighed, and picked up the emerald again. The dragon would soon be right on top of the castle. Serve those nobles right, using the sparse money of the poor for their own, uneeded benefit.

She opened the flap of her velvet tent and looked out into the sky. The dragon was almost at the castle, and Kytra knew that it would not hurt the peasants. It was fighting for their cause. She closed the flap of the tent and settled herself on a wide satin cushion, stuffed with swan feathers.

Suddenly, her mind was overtaken by a vision. She closed her eyes tightly and prepared for the pain, one hand on either side of her head.

A girl. She could see a girl with long black hair and perfect white skin. She was screaming, her scarlet dress billowing in the wind, and the golden crown on her head glittering in the moonlight. A huge shape overshadowed her. In the background, other terrified nobles were panicking and running out of an enlarged space.

Kytra realised that the girl must have been a noble, but she looked to young to be an established lady. She looked barely older than fourteen. She had a positive aura. Kytra could tell that she hadn't wanted to attend the event at the castle, therefore, was doing no wrong. She started to worry. Surely the dragon knew of the girl's predicament? Or was it under general orders? If that was the answer...then one question remained: Who was giving the orders?
