16. Fletch's Reward

She stood over the two boys, long black hair twirling and flying around in the breeze.

"Your Majesty-"

Fletch and Pike got to their feet and bowed.

"There is no need for that," said Ocello, lightly.

"Um, Pike, this is, Pr- Ocello." stuttered Fletch, remembering at the last second that Ocello prefered to be addressed by nothing more than her name.

"It's a pleasure to meet you," said Ocello politely, holding out a pale hand.

Pike shook it. "It's a pleasure to meet you too-" he looked at Fletch, who nodded. "-Ocello." Pike finished in a breathless voice.

"I saw you save that girl," she replied. "It was very brave of you, what all the - ah - things in the lake."

"Oh, it - is was nothing." Pike shrugged.

Ocello laughed; a light tinkling sound. "You have an extremely modest friend, Fletch."

Pike's face went slightly pink.

"So," said Fletch, "Why are you here, of all places?"

"To thank you," Ocello replied simply. "For saving my life." she delved into a pocket on the cloak she was wearing. Pike noticed that it completely covered her vivid emerald dress. She obviously didn't want to attract any attention.

Ocello pulled out a medium sized drawstring bag, and handing it to Fletch.

He shook it. Clinking sounds came from the bag, which meant only one thing; it was filled with money.

Fletch's face lit up ad Pike's eyes widened.

"Do what you want with it," Ocello shrugged. "My father won't even notice it's gone."

"It's your father's money?" Fletch gasped.

Ocello nodded, and her expression became slightly harder. "He's got too much anyway."

Fletch peeked inside the bag and gulped. He showed it's contence to Pike, who gave a small yelp.

"That's enough to feed the whole village," he said, "For at least a century or two,"

Ocello smiled.
