59. Epilogue

Of course, it did take a long while for the Kingdom to be restored. Ocello was crowned Queen immediately after she learned of the Baron's and her brother's simultaneous death. (a short funeral was held purely out of tradition - Oskar's body was buried deep in the forest under Ocello's orders. As for the Baron, his corpse was tossed into the twisted trees and never looked back on.)

After the break of dawn, Ocello was taken inside to meet Violet, who she greeted with a fierce hug and even more tears. Shortly after her crowning ceremony, not only Violet, but Kytra, Fletch and Pike were all presented with medals of bravery and courage.

Ocello and her friends rode on horseback to the castle, where the remaining guards and servants were notified, very happily, of the changes to the royal family. Ocello ordered for all of the living villagers in the dungeons to be set free and looked after in the castle before returning to the village to help with the re-construction of the Kingdom. Those who had not been so lucky, for example Pike's father, were buried in a secretive spot of the bailey with separate funerals.

In total, the complete restoration of the village and castle took around three years. So much was destroyed, and so many people were hurt that a large communal healing shelter had been set up in the centre of the village (it was run by Kytra -  obviously).

And now, I suppose we almost reach the end of the tale. Perhaps you would like to know what became of our four heroes after Heriven returned to its rightful state.

Ocello - Queen Ocello, went to live in the castle, taking with her Agatha and the childhood guards. The manor, as far as I know, was left to decay - although some of the items from inside were preserved and were taken to the castle, such as most of Ophelia and Ocello's belongings. Ocello offered Violet a room in the castle, but she instead took refuge in Pike's old house, working on her swords(wo)manship and keeping to herself. Ocello eventually married Pike - perhaps you saw this event coming. Fletch certainly did - or he said so.

Fletch - Became the new fortune teller. I joke, of course. Surprisingly, he went back to his old job as the stableboy, now the stableman. He and his father met like almost nothing had happened, I believe. Indeed, the first thing John commented on was the state of Fletch's attire. Fletch never married, but I think he always had a soft spot for Kytra.

Kytra - Kytra became Heriven's first healer. The witch rumours ceased to exist when she was awarded the medal for bravery. People still believed she was magical with her work, of course. Sethlore was allowed into the Kingdom on Ocello's orders, and Kytra told people not to fear him. As far as I know, he proved to be extremely good company for the children of Heriven.

And finally, Pike - Well. What can I say about him. He never went back to his work as a blacksmith apprentice, the job proved to be too painful with the memories of his father. Instead, he took a different hobby after marrying Ocello and becoming king. He documented lots of Heriven's events, and became an acclaimed poet and writer. His most famous piece is the story you are reading now - a popular 'fairy-tale' among the younger children in the Kingdom - perhaps a rather bloodthirsty bedtime story, but entertaining all the same, I suppose.

Ocello, Kytra and Fletch helped him - me - write it, of course - and, here were are at the end. I've never been good at endings. All is well now, and has been for many a year. The seasons are back in order now, though the summers are never sweltering and the winters are never bitter. And, oh, I suppose I must. They all lived happily ever after.
