The Summer I Never Expected

Lexi is a normal 19 year old California girl that gets the opportunity to visit her amazing (and filthy rich) aunt and uncle in Maryland for the summer. Little does she know that her uncle's small record company just signed a new client. And it just so happens to be her favorite boyband...

3. Arrival

I arrived in Maryland at about 9 p.m. and I wasn't the least bit tired seeing as it was only 6 p/.m. my time. I had some issues getting to baggage claim, but after asking a few people, I finally found it.

I turned my phone on and saw that I had 4 texts and 1 missed call.

From Leah: Lex, I miss you already! Skype me when you get there so I can get a little virtual tour
From Ellie: Only two more weeks! I'm staying the night at Leah's so Skype us tonight!
From Mom: Have you landed yet?
From Sissy: Call me when you get your bags, I just parked outside :)

I was partially homesick already.

I texted my mom, Leah, and Ellie back while I waited for my bag. I called my Sissy to let her know I landed.

"Hey Sissy! I'm just waiting for my bag at baggage claim. The guy on the intercom said they should be coming out any minute now."
"Good! As soon as you get it just walk out those double doors, and I'll be on the left."
"Okay! See you in a few."

I hung up and saw the missed call was from my brother, David. He probably didn't even realize that I left today. Finally I saw my bag and with the help of a kind stranger, I got it off the conveyor belt and headed for the door. I found her sports car almost immediately. My aunt was not a very "low-key" kind of person. When she saw me coming up, she ran up to greet me.

"Oh my gosh I've missed you so much!" she said while squishing me in a bear hug.
"I've missed you too!!"
"I figured we could go out and get a milkshake or something. Have a little girl time before heading home. Unless you're tired of course." She said as we put all my stuff in the car and got in.
"No I'm totally hyped. And girl time sounds great."
"Good cause your Uncle Ray has some clients over at the house right now that he's trying to close a deal with. Plus, I want to spend some time with you before we go home and Trey attacks you with scripts that he wants to rehearse."

We both laughed. Trey was my 21 year old cousin who was home for the summer from his prestigious New York acting school.

We get to a small diner and the waitress comes to take our order.

"A chocolate milkshake for me." My Aunt smiles.
"And vanilla for me, please."
"Right, I'll be back shortly with your shakes."
"Thank you!" We said in unison.
"Sooo," She said taking out her lipstick to reapply, "Tell me what's up! How's everything going? School? Work? Boys?"

She wiggled her eyebrows at that last bit

"Well," I started, ""School's going good. Granted that was only my first year of college. But I'll actually get to start my culinary classes next semester!"
"Ooh, how exciting! What kind of classes are you taking?"
"I'll be taking a few intro classes, some more business, then a couple GE's that I still need."
"Wow, sounds like you've got your hands full."

We took a quick break to begin sipping the milkshakes that just arrived in front of us.

"Ya, plus I start my new job at Starbucks this fall. So it'll be fun to see how this all works out. " I laugh.
"Ya that'll definitely be interesting. Now, are you avoiding the 'boys' part of that question?" She smirked, knowing me so well.
I laughed nervously, "Well, there's no one official. But I guess there's someone I'm kind of interested in.."

Ger facial expressions were urging me to go on, which made me laugh more.

"His name is Hayden. I've had a crush on him since like middle school, so I guess it's kinda old news. But we just recently started hanging out more, so, yeah. But this other girl likes him, too so it's kind of a little mini battle happening right now."
"Hmm," She said biting her straw, "maybe a month away from all that pointless drama will do you some good then!"I nodded my head. "And you never know, maybe you'll take an interest in one of your uncles clients."

She winked and I rolled my eyes. I missed this woman.

We finished our shakes and left for home (after paying of course).

As we drove up their mile long drive way (literally a mile long), she nodded at one of the cars and said, "They must still be here. But they're probably in the basement so we should be fine."

We grabbed my bags and headed for the door. It was already unlocked so I opened it and got a bit of surprise. My uncle was sitting on the couch and opposite of him was none other than One Direction....
