14. Revenge

The week had passed by slowly. I cleaned, cooked and served. My nose had made a slow recovery from Monday, it’s now Saturday, and it is wrapped up in a small plaster. I have some bruising but that is it really. I have been let of the hook by Miss Trout. We still don’t know who put that bottle in my room. Em, Han and myself have been looking at clues, has the culprit left a strand of hair any sort of clue. We gave up on Wednesday.

Nothing has been said about the incident in Maths, Sheldon or Ethan has not been told of, like nothing had happened. I sit as far away from Sheldon as possible. He still mocks Ethan, playing with my hair, arm around the back of chair Ethan tries to ignore it but he can’t resist. I and Ethan haven’t talked all this week; he has kept his distance, staying with the little gang of mates I saw in his room last weekend. Sarah and Lisa have drifted off to Ethan’s group, so it only really leaves Han and I, just the way we like it.

We are sat together now, it is a rainy day and everyone is inside either sat around the telly or playing pool. Han and I are sat at the end of a sofa discussing about the punishments they give out.

‘I just can’t believe the punishment they gave you, I mean unfair or what!’ Han said, I had already got bored from this conversation so I decided to change it.

‘So how are you and Mark?’ I asked. Han’s face dropped, I guess its bad news.

‘He said he would call, I waited and he did not call. A few days I think it was Tuesday; I saw Mark and this other girl. Kissing, I think it was Babe. But I’m not sure.’ Jamie! I knew she would do something like this, stealing everyone’s boyfriend.

‘Jamie shouldn’t be called Babe, more like witch!’ I said witch extra loud because Jamie and her clan were in the corner of the room huddled over a magazine. I looked around the room. Mr Grayson guarded the door, if we needed to go elsewhere he would question us, put us on the spot. We didn’t dare go out. I was just looking at the door when Ethan, Adam, Lisa and Sarah walked. All holding hands, Adam and Sarah, Ethan and Lisa. I turned to Han gobsmacked, my face aching, my heart fluttering. How dare him! I faced the group of four who were now heading towards the pool table. Adam and Ethan picked the cue up while Lisa and Sarah sat down on two chairs near the table. Ethan placed the balls and leaned over the table to start the game. Lisa let out a giggle when seeing muscles show through is striped top. Adam and Ethan hit the balls one after the other the nets. There was one ball left and it was Ethan’s turn. He beckoned Lisa over, he placed her in front of himself, placed his hands around her waist, and together they scored. Lisa leaped into Ethan’s arms.

My eyes burned and I needed air. Han took the hint and we left.

The cool air cleared my skin, the rain had stopped and people were starting to come out. We made our way over to the bleachers and sat down. I placed my head in my hands and let myself go. Tears streamed down my face, touching my lips, they tasted like salt. Han comforted me saying it will be alright. But it’s not going to be alright, it is never going to be alright. If he dumps her and comes back to me, I will never forget the betrayal the pain and suffering.

I just sat their head in hands and Han’s arm around my shoulders. I felt a mess and all I wanted to was run to my room and clean away my tears. But something told me to stay. To stay there on that uncomfortable seat with Han.

Minutes past in silence, my sobs turned to hiccups and people were walking to lunch.

‘Hunny, I think you need some food in you.’ Han pulled me to my feet. I brushed myself down, and made my way down the steps. Han grabbed my arm. ‘Here I don’t think you want to go in there looking like that.’ She wiped my weary eyes with her sleeve. Gave me a tissue to blow my nose and gave me the thumbs up.

We walked arm in arm to the hall, Em was already sat in our usual seats. I placed myself between both of them and layed my head on the table. It felt good; the cold of the table cooled my thumping headache, making everything go away. Han and Em whispered, I guessed Han was updating Em on the latest gossip. Em touched my shoulder tenderly and went and got her lunch. I lifted my head up a fraction to find I was alone. Han and Em were at the sandwich counter deciding if they should have cheese or ham. Em and Han arrived back at their seats a few minutes later, Ham it was. I stood up and shuffled over to the line; I picked a tray up and joined the queue. A warm heavy hand placed on my shoulder, I turned to find Ethan standing a few steps away. His eyes were sad and grim. I let his hand fall to his side. I snapped around and concentrated on a crumb on my tray.

‘I know you’re mad with me, but you deserve it.’ WHAT! I deserve this, this embarrassment the pain. How could he say that?! I let out a slow laugh, and turned to meet his eyes. He was only a few feet then me and my eyes met his chin. I lifted my head up a tad.

‘I deserve it really?! Go on! Tell me why? Cause I need to hear why I deserve this!’ He looked stunned at my sudden anger, I was a bit actually.

He swallowed and said. ‘You should know! It has been happening a lot in Maths lately.’ I traced my mind. Maths, maths I don’t understand. He saw this in my face. ‘Sheldon seems to have a liking towards you doesn’t he. Playing with your hair arm around your chair. I thought you liked me Kim, but I guess not all you like is yourself. You don’t know how much that hurt me Kim, but you didn’t do a thing. You let him do it, that’s what I’m going to do to you! See how it hurts.’ He walked out the hall in a flash. My heart ached and my eyes burned. Not again! I ran to the one place that I felt safe, my room.
