Same Mistakes

Liam’s intense brown eyes snuck another glance towards me while he remained silent. Zayn’s hand on mine seemed to grow stronger with each passing moment. The room grew thick in tension, but Zayn didn’t know why. I continued staring at Liam, not knowing how to move on from this point.
“Liam,” asked Zayn. “What’s the matter?”
Liam seemed to jump back into reality and his face came back to life. “What are you talking about?” he said smiling.
I stood frozen as Zayn glanced down at me. I only shrugged my shoulder, pretending I had no idea what was going on, but inside, my emotions were in a whirlwind as I remembered the events that occurred a few years ago.

4. Bad Memories

Liam's P.O.V.

Harry was having a blast as he pretended to be a DJ and hosted the party. We were on the roof and it was a full moon tonight. The stars were barely visible. I couldn't hear any talking or such because the music was insanely loud. Harry poked my arm and offered me the mic. I shook my head. Instead I pointed down, trying to say I would be going downstairs. He nodded his head.

I rushed past people, ducking my head all the while because I didn't want people to recognize me. I climbed the stairs which would lead me downstairs, and then I walked towards the closest exit. I stepped outside to an empty alley and sighed in relief. The party atmosphere was too much for me to handle at the moment, and it seemed to be the same case for a chick opposite of me, crying.

She was wearing a sexy, red lacy dress which seemed to accentuate her best assets. Her black heels made her legs look tone and fit. My favorite part though, was her light brown curls, which were bouncing up and down with each sob. Her crying must have been too loud for her to hear me shut the door, or she must have ignored it all together.

I stood there for a while, not knowing what to do.

“Hey,” I said loud enough to be heard over the music. The girl looked up, brown eyes staring back, at first confused, but then with recognition. She timidly drew her lips into a smile. It was obvious she was a directioner as she came towards me to give me a hug. I chuckled.

“Oh my God, it’s Liam!” she exclaimed. She wiped the tears from her eyes, but her puffy eyes betrayed the fact that she was crying a few moments ago. She looked pretty cute, but then I felt guilty as Danielle popped into my head.

“Yeah,” I smiled. “Can I ask you why you were crying?” I asked.

She hesitated, and then waved her hand. “Oh, it’s nothing,” she said, and then sniffled. “I just,” she started, and then looked down at her phone. “It’s just my ex texted me saying he’s sorry and that he shouldn't have broken up with me, and I have no idea what to say,” she said, barely making it before she started crying again. I came over to her and held her in my arms. Love can be so painful. As I held the stranger in my arms, I thought about Danielle and how she rejected me.

I had the ring all picked out, and had been carrying it around for a few weeks. I had been waiting for the right time to propose, and then I found it. We were having dinner in this fancy restaurant, and she was beaming at how she was offered this new job to go on tour with LMFAO. She seemed so happy and so beautiful, that I fell onto one knee and popped the question. She gasped in surprise, and I was so filled up with glee that I didn't pay much attention to her response. I thought she had said yes, which was why I was absolutely shocked when she pulled her hand away. I looked up, confused, and then reality hit me as she began speaking. None of it made sense until I lousily walked out of the front door. As I sullenly walked back to my house, I realized what she had meant. She was putting her career before me. I fell onto the curb and began crying.

A few weeks later, I found myself hugging a stranger, weeping into her hair about that terrible memory.
