Same Mistakes

Liam’s intense brown eyes snuck another glance towards me while he remained silent. Zayn’s hand on mine seemed to grow stronger with each passing moment. The room grew thick in tension, but Zayn didn’t know why. I continued staring at Liam, not knowing how to move on from this point.
“Liam,” asked Zayn. “What’s the matter?”
Liam seemed to jump back into reality and his face came back to life. “What are you talking about?” he said smiling.
I stood frozen as Zayn glanced down at me. I only shrugged my shoulder, pretending I had no idea what was going on, but inside, my emotions were in a whirlwind as I remembered the events that occurred a few years ago.

Liam's P.O.V.

Coming into America was a breath of fresh air. Although there were still thousands of fans flocking to any rumored place we might be, it still felt like a breath of fresh air. I stood in a Starbucks as Harry ordered us some breakfast. I looked outside into the gloomy day here in Washington D.C. Students from the nearby university unhurriedly walked to and from different places. I sensed it would rain tonight, but whether it rained or not, me and Harry would be hosting the grand opening of a local club. It was predicted that it would be one of the best, rain or shine.

I walked back to the counter where I found Harry flirting with the girl behind the counter. She handed him the two coffees and smiled at us both. I smiled back. Harry led us back to a table in the back of the café. We both sat there for a while not saying anything.

“How are you doing?” Harry asked me.

“What do you mean?” I asked. I wasn’t really in the mood to talk about Danielle.

“You seem so distant, though,” he said, as though reading my mind. “The guys and I are worried. You’re still young, and yeah, she may have rejected your proposal, but you just have to move on from that.”

I had to physically restrain myself from shouting at him. “Spoken like a man who has never proposed to anyone,” I said, quickly losing interest in the conversation. Harry sighed. Then I sighed. I had to give him a break. “What do you want me to tell you? She said no, and now my heart’s broken, and I never, ever want to return to England. There, I said it,” I said.

“Wow, that’s the most I’ve heard you say about the subject without breaking down to tears,” he said, but I felt like he was mocking me until I looked into his eyes.

“Yeah,” I whispered.

“But hey,” he said cheerily. “There are going to be tons of hot babes at the club tonight, so that should get your mind off of things, right?”

I rolled my head around trying to come up with an answer. “Spoken like a man who has never been rejected,” I said, and we both smiled.
