1. Secrets, Codes, and Bombs

Natasha got on the bus, turning only to wave to Niall, her Irish boyfriend who was sitting in her upstairs room window. She sat in her usual window seat, staring out at the barren road with her earbuds in, listening One Direction. Halfway down the road an unfamiliar car was parked. Natasha perked up and rechecked the license plate number. She recognized it, and when she remembered from where she jumped up and ran up to the front of the bus.

"Mrs. Helset! Let me out, its an emergency!" Natasha begged, and the bus driver reluctantly opened the doors.

"Do you need help?" Mrs. Helset yelled after the nervous girl.

"No thanks!" Natasha shouted back as she ran back to the house. If she was right, her bus driver wouldn't be able to do anything to help. She made it to her red house in about a minute and immediately dashed up the stairs.

"Niall?!" She called out, but no one answered. She was getting more nervous, but was relieved to find him stuffing his face with a sausage biscuit in her room. He looked surprised to see her, and stood up when she entered the room.

"What are you doing home, babe?" He asked, but she just pushed him toward the closet with fear in her eyes as she heard the side door open and close.

"Niall, love, there's a door in the closet behind the clothes. It goes to the attic, hurry!" She pushed the clothes back for him and closed the closet door before he could protest or ask questions. Moments later two men barged in the bedroom, one was Russian and bald, and the other tall and husky, and carried a Glock.

"You girl. We're looking for a blonde Irish boy, I'm sure you've seen him." The bald Russian one said menacingly.

"Blonde and Irish, hm, nope doesn't ring a bell." She remarked sarcastically.

"Listen girly," the bigger man stepped forward, "you'll tell us where he is or you'll get hurt. Take your pick."

"You guys are really stupid," she flipped her auburn hair back, "I figured you were coming and already sent him on his way. No telling where he is by now." The Russian approached her threateningly, but as soon as he got close she kicked him where it hurts and brought her elbow down on his neck when he doubled over in pain. He fell to the floor, moaning, while the other man charged her. She moved out of his way casually and put him in a headlock.

"Who do you work for?" She demanded, putting pressure on one of the man's nerves, "Sicher?"

He chuckled, "I'd never tell you." Natasha sighed and flipped him out the open window behind her and headed back to the closet.

"Niall!" she shouted, retrieving the confused Irish, "We have to go. Now."She grabbed a small backpack from the attic and a duffle bag.

"Nat. Natasha. What the hell is going on?" He asked her. He grabbed her arm and sat her down on the bed. She sighed in defeat.

"Two years ago I was different. I worked for an agency called the EAU. Elite Assassins Unit. I was an undercover assassin, so only a select few know I ever existed in that unit. On one of my last missions some Russians got ahold of some American and British security access codes, but I quit before they were retrieved. Apparently I'm being dragged back into this, intentionally or not, I don't know. I think these guys worked for a guy called Sicher. He's one of the most dangerous criminal masterminds ever lived, mostly because he never officially chooses a side. And he hates me."

"But why were they after me?" Niall asked her. Natasha thought about it, then perked up.

"You toured in Russia, right?" He nodded. "Did you get any souvenirs? Anything?" He nodded.

"I bought a cool snow globe from some street vendor."

"Where is it?" She demanded.

"At my flat." Natasha grabbed her keys and ran down to the garage, Niall close behind. They hopped into her black 67' Chevy Impala and she drove towards the outskirts of town where Niall lived.

"Why didn't you ever tell me?" Niall asked suddenly. Natasha sighed.

"It wasn't important until now. I wanted to live a normal life. I quit, it was over." She pulled into the driveway. Niall's flat was a mess, with clothes thrown all over the floor and overturned furniture. Niall gaped at his ransacked house and looked to Natasha.

"Nat, this is not how I left it." He told her.

"Didn't think so," she began to dig around, "where was the snow globe?" He pointed to a snow globe sitting on top of his dresser. Natasha laughed.

"Those Russians aren't used to dealing with normal people, guess they thought you tried to hide it." She picked up the snow globe and flipped it upside-down. She twisted the bottom off and pulled out a piece of paper. Her mouth dropped when she read it.

"What does it say?" Niall asked, and Natasha turned the paper toward him. Under a bunch of codes it read: 'THE RUSSIANS DIDN'T RANSACK THIS PLACE' Just then an alarm sounded, and Natasha grabbed Niall's arm and ran outside as fast as she could, but the flat exploded before before they could get a safe distance. The two were thrown into the car and rolled over the top of it. They lay on their backs, breathing heavily.

"You okay, babe?" Niall leaned over Natasha. She nodded and pushed herself up. Niall planted a sweet kiss on Natasha's lips. "That was too close." He whispered. She hugged him comfortingly.

"I'm sorry. But we need to go." They got up. Strangely enough the car was in tact, so they made their way to the countryside.
