18. The end?

Lucas' P.O.V

I grabbed the rope and with the help of Dave and John we were heaving Eliana up to us at a quickening pace. I could almost feel her desperation, an emotion I had become so accustomed to. I smiled however my pleasure soon turned to outrage as she started untying the ropes holding her to the chair.

"Bring her up faster, you idiots!" I wailed, she couldn't get away. She mustn't.

Muscles flexing with the notion, Dave and John tirelessly dragged her up faster but too late; Eliana had now dropped off into a bush.

"GET HER!" I bellowed in their ears. Their eyes turned white with fear but their mouths bent in a crooked smile. They liked the chase but I just hoped they knew the seriousness of having Eliana held hostage. After a minute or so I followed suit. Leaping down the stairs I flew through the door and watched as my inferior comrades chased after Eliana but with no success. I approached them, fists held steady at my sides ready for attack if need be. I couldn't supress my anger. Then off in the distance I saw a small figure dart off into the darkness before us. I ran on, leaving Dave and John to stand looking blankly at each other in supressed confusion.

Just as I neared the forest that lay ahead, lights blasted before my eyes. Sirens blurred through the chaos of the fire and car wheels screeched across the road. I stared blinking blindly, with my hand above my head. Through slits I identified several vehicles, each bearing fluorescent colours. The police.

"Hands above your head!" Bellowed an officer who held a gun firmly between his hands, aiming it towards myself.

Loosening the rugged firmness of my clenched fists, I unfolded my hands and as the officer said, raised them above my head. Another officer crept behind me roughly taking my hands in his and chaining my wrists with handcuffs. The harsh metal dug into my skin but I had no need to bother about it. After a turn of so to my right I was dragged along forcibly by the officer and my head was bent into the car.

"You are under arrest, Lucas Black, for abduction and murder" With that the officer jumped into the front seat and readied the car. Slowly, he drove by the forest in which I knew Eliana was hiding within. I could sense her watching and waiting. I may be off to prison but her struggle for life wasn't over yet. The drugs as it seemed hadn't reached their full potential. With that thought, I grew giddy with malicious excitement, a curling lip justifying my emotions.

I dug my right hand into my jean pocket, withdrawing a silver vial. It shone in the moonlight and for a second I admired the contents that flowed beautifully with the movement of the car. Unscrewing the top of the vial I held it towards my lips breathing in its scent. My eyes cocked over to the rear-view mirror and at that second my eyes met the officers. His brows furrowed as I twisted my head up and in one fluid movement, tipped the contents of the vial into my mouth. Their was a grinding halt as the officer slammed on the brakes. He ran out of the car and flew open the door to my side. Grabbing me by the face he shouted out words, but by now they sounded slurred. I watched as his face contorted and the features before my eyes twisted comically left and right. I grew hazy, laughing at the sudden euphoria. The officer grappled my hands, checking my vitals as I slipped off into complete and utter darkness.
