22. Scout's Honor

Chapter 22

Aspen’s P.O.V

We arrived at the train station sooner than I imagined it felt like I only fell asleep for a couple of minutes until I heard the train stop slowly at first then abruptly and almost slipped from Harry’s lap but felt his arms tighten around me to keep me in place. I didn’t want to leave from this spot because for once in a while I had never felt so safe, like nothing could come and get me, like he was the few people I knew I could trust. I felt his finger slowly trace my face, starting at my temple then past my cheeks, his thumb going over my lips and stopping at my jaw. I fluttered my eyelashes and saw him staring into my eyes like he never stopped from the moment I closed them. I flashed him a small smile and slowly got up yawning and pulling his jacket closer to me.

“I didn’t think we’d be here so quickly,” I told him stretching my arms in front of me.

He smoothed down my hair and tucked a loose strand behind my ear kind of like Liam used to. My heart stopped suddenly when I realized I never said anything to him before I left. I fumbled into my pocket for my phone and saw he hadn’t even bothered to text me wondering if I was okay. Dumbfounded I quickly sent him a message telling him I was fine and would be back to see how they were. Harry gave me a weird look at my moment of panic and shook it off as he got up from the seat and offered his hand to help me up. I took it then was about to drop my hand to my side when he snatched it back and held my hand as we walked down the train steps. I felt my cheeks burst in flames because it felt weirdly nice to know that he was okay with us holding hands with me in public, like he wasn’t ashamed to be seen with me. It’s not like I’m self-conscious or anything but he’s famous and I thought that he would try to keep whatever it is we had going on under wraps. But the fact that he didn’t care what people thought, had my heart warming and my stomach flipping.

“Are you alright Aspen?” I jumped a little at the sound of his voice as he leaned down a little to say it in my ear.

I looked down at the floor smiling more to myself than anything, “I’m fine just sort of lost myself in my own thoughts I guess.”

“You’re so cute when you blush,” I glanced up at him and saw him giving me his radiant smile and I grinned even wider in spite of myself and shook my head.

“I really don’t get what is you find so attractive in me when there are millions of other girls probably tracking your every move,” I commented as we walked towards the curb.

Harry gave me an incredulous look in complete disbelief, “You’re kidding right?”

I hailed a taxi and let him open the door for me as we both climbed in, “Kidding about what?” I asked putting my seatbelt on.

“Well,” He shuffled in his seat nervously adjusting the jacket over my shoulders, “I think you’re beautiful Aspen.”

As if nothing could make me more red I felt my face heat up, “Thank you?...” I bit my lip and gave him a confused look and began fiddling with my necklace.

Harry laughed out loud, “Normally when I tell girls they’re attractive they’re jumping off their seats wondering what it is I see in them,” he noticed my worried expression but just patted my knee reassuringly, “But not you Aspen, you’re certainly different.”

I smirked and let it go as I settled my head on his shoulder looking outside of the windows as we passed house after house and finally stopping short at what I suspected was Harry’s house.

I undid my seat belt as he held open the door for me then proceeded to pay the driver and get my things out of the trunk. I walked up to the front door and almost rang the doorbell before remembering that nobody was home. Harry set my suitcase down on the porch and pulled out his keys and unlocked the door. He opened the door and held it with his back and extended his arm, “Welcome to Harry Styles’ old house where all of his firsts were,” he proclaimed grandiosely.

I laughed and stepping in taking in the house he grew up in. The living room was filled with pictures in cute frames of Harry and another girl whom I assumed as his sister Gemma. Even back then he had that devilish little smile and it was present in a picture with him wearing a bra. I giggled at the one where he was wearing a Halloween costume and couldn’t help but feel a little homesick when I saw how much Harry’s family cared about him. My parents really hadn’t done anything to get in contact with me after I left the convent except keeping my credit card filled with money I needed for the stuff I needed. I almost let a tear escape but took it back promising I would never let Harry see me cry.

“It’s not much, but it’s home,” Harry interrupted my thoughts wrapping his arms around my waist placing his chin on my shoulder.

I shivered at the touch and leaned back against him, “I love it.”

I felt his smile, “My mum likes to decorate a lot and what not.”

“What’s she like?”

His hold around me loosened as he straightened a little, “She’s the most incredible woman and one of the most important people in my life. She supports me and means everything to me because well no one really has been there for me except for her,” I heard him confess behind me then turned me around, “What are your parents like?”

I played with the silver chain hanging loosely on my neck and scratched the area where it touched and looked down, “They’re okay I guess,” I saw his face flash me a look of confusion but I directed our conversation elsewhere and looked back up at him my face brightening, “Do you have anything to eat? I’m starving.”

Walking around the house I found the kitchen, small with tile floor and a granite top. Opening the fridge I pulled out milk and some cereal but Harry came over and took them from my hands and poured it into a bowl himself as he prompted me to take a seat at the table. I sat down with one leg under me the other bouncing up and down nervously. He placed the bowl of cold cereal and a spoon directly in front of me and sat next to me. “Why are you so anxious all of a sudden?” He asked me raising an eyebrow suspiciously.

I took a spoonful of cereal and held up a finger as I chewed agonizingly slow then swallowed clearing my throat, “I guess I’m just nervous about living here with you I guess,” I toyed with the ends of my auburn hair, “Maybe a little more than nervous actually.”

Harry threw his head back and laughed, “Is that it?” I swatted his arm playfully and he lifted his arms in surrender, “Geez Aspen I’m not going to pull anything if that’s what you’re thinking, I’ll be a complete gentleman, scouts honor.”

He lifted two fingers and I reached over and put another finger up, “It’s three smartass.”

Harry flashed me a cheeky smile pinching my waist, “You’re right what am I talking about? I’m no boy scout.”

Winking at me I rolled my eyes but could only dread what it was he really was going to pull from under me.
