2. Fair Game

Chapter 2

I watched in disbelief as the three boys dragged their luggage into the room one by one. I swallowed hard and felt my palms already starting to sweat. Gross. I haven’t been around guys in who knows how long. I mean I’m not socially awkward or anything but these are more than attractive British boys who are going to be sleeping in the same room as me for what a couple of months? Even for the girl I was before, this was not normal behavior for me. I looked up at them uneasily my eyelashes fluttering beyond my control. I composed myself before saying nonchalantly, “So who gets the bed?”

No one really responded so Liam looked up at me, “Obviously Aspen she’s the only girl here and it’d be,” he cleared his throat, “rude if any of us took the bed.”

Liam and Zayn both waited for Harry’s response and he didn’t take long, “No way, I’m getting the bed,” he strode to the bed and plopped himself on it putting his arms behind his head as he put his shoes over the cream comforter.

“All you got to do Aspen is say the word and we’ll get him off of it for you,” Liam whispered in my ear, standing way too close than I’d like. His minty breath felt hot on my neck and I restlessly stepped away from him and nodded my head. Liam gave me a weird look before raising an eyebrow at Zayn and cocking his head towards Harry’s direction. Before I even had time to blink and question their actions they bolted in Harry’s direction grabbing him by the ankles as he thrashed at them and yelled obscenities that could have been heard in the other rooms. I tried to hold back my laughter and instead giggled softly as they threw him upon the beige couch.

Harry’s already messy hair poked out in all directions and I saw his face was red in disdain. My eyes widened and I stuttered, “Well u-um it’s really not that big of a deal any of you guys can have it,”

Zayn shook his head, “No way it’s really the,” he looked over at Harry, “gentleman…thing to do, and besides I’m much more of a couch guy.”

I didn’t want to argue anyways and started putting my stuff on the bed laying out my suitcase and opening it. I suddenly felt an air of self-consciousness and noticed that they were all still looking at me. I put my hand on my hips, “What?” I said in the same tone as I did when they kept staring at me when I came out of the flat door.

They all pointed to the floor, including Harry who seemed to have forgotten the earlier battle for the bed. I looked down confused as to what could possibly have caused their inept stares. And that’s when I saw it. My black lace bra that I usually wore under dresses was planted near my feet. Turning red I hastily snatched it off the ground and hid it behind my back.

“Well, if that’s what you wear to sleep, I’d more than glad to share a bed with you,” Harry said smirking.

I didn’t think it was possible for me to turn redder but I did. “I-I NO!” I blurted

He chuckled getting closer to me that I could make out the gold specks in his teal eyes, “Are you sure about that?”

“Yes!” Zayn and Liam chorused spontaneously. I looked at them curiously. I didn’t know why they would protest Harry’s offer so I tried to assume it was due to who got the bed. But I was no fool. I knew perfectly well why it was they so earnestly rejected his offer.

“Let’s get something straight guys before we all start planning his and her towels,” I stood from the bed and stopped directly in front of them. “I can’t like either of you three,” I told them plainly as I pointed to myself and then to them.

At that moment I longed for the truth behind those words I so confidently said, but as I saw their luminescent flash of hazel, aqua and light brown eyes drop down to the floor, my words no longer held no meaning.

I cleared my throat and watched as their gazes once again fell on me, “Uhm I mean since we’re all living together for what may be a while, I just thought it’d be weird if one of us chose to date the other.”

Noticing my faltering reason Harry took that time to scoff and stare at me already noticing my disbelieving tone. However neither of them said anything even if I knew they all suspected I wanted to take back what I had just said.
“Right,” Harry winked at me sarcastically, “You just keep thinking that sweetheart,” he towered just over 5 inches above me as he patted my head in a child like fashion, “Now if you all will excuse me, I’d like to finish my shower and go to bed.” He stalked off towards the bathroom while snagging a towel from a nearby shelf and draping it over his bare back before closing the door behind him.

I glared at the door in which he disappeared from. Zayn immediately felt my hostility and placed his hands on my shoulders almost causing me to jump in surprise, “Calm down Aspen, he’ll only be like that for a little while,” he whispered in my ear as his touch made my skin turn hot.

I however fell back on the bed and placed a pillow on my face groaning loudly as I could. And somewhere in the bathroom I heard Harry laugh out loud knowing fully well he overheard me.
