My Best Friend, Or My Boyfriend?

Ariana used to date Liam Payne when they were both 14. Ariana broke up with him and Liam moved away...for a while. Now he's back in the UK, and meets Ariana who is oblivious to the fact that her old boyfriend Liam is now her best friend besides Lisa. Her new boyfriend isn't the happiest about Liam and the less time Ariana has been spending with him, and the more time she's been spending with Liam. But since he isn't one of those world-class jerks, he keeps it to himself. Who will Ariana chose? Liam, nice, cute, fit, sweet, or Josh, nice, handsome, and sweet? Guess it depends.

4. A new member of the family, and a misunderstanding

I got home and opened the door to my parents sitting on the couch, watching an old movie together.
"Hey, mom?" I asked.
"Yeah, hon?"
"Could I, that is, may I, would you, may I please please please get a puppy and train him on my own?"
"Well, since when did you want a, a, a puppy?"
My mom pretty much hated dogs.
"Well, I was thinking, and it seems that even though Lisa lives in the same neighbor hood and all, we have really busy schedules after school, and we don't see each other that much. So, a friend that could come to work with me, since I work at the shelter, would be awesome. And people bring their dogs all the time. Plus i'm a natural with animals, so please, pretty please?"
"Well, you ARE 17, now, Steve?"
"I don't see why not. How much money you got saved?"
"Um, lemme check." I am very organized, and I have this app and I enter the amount of money I put in the bank and it calculates and all this stuff and tells me how much money I have saved. I allow myself $5 every paycheck, so I put around $15 in the bank.
"Uh, $1,015."
"Oh, you can definitely pay for all the shots and stuff. Now is that your college account or YOUR account?"
"My account."
"Good. Go to the shelter. You have your keys, correct?"
"Go ahead."
And out the door I went.
I'm a saver not a spender, so pretty much every time my whole paycheck goes to the bank, and I get all the clothes I need from mom, and then there's allowance, so I can always spend that.
I arrived at the shelter about 5:30, and my boss, Carter, 25, looked surprised.
Carter is a college graduate an works as a vet. She has her own building and half is the office, the other a shelter. I hope to be just like her someday, I would love to become a veterinarian. Plus, she said if I ever do, I have a place right here. So I had high hopes.
"Ariana? You're not scheduled to work today, volunteer work?"
"Actually, I'm kinda here to adopt."
"Really? That's great. Knowing you, you want little Carter, right?"
"Yep, the difference between you and him, he's a dog, you're a human, he's a boy, you're a girl."
The employees cracked this joke all the time.
Carter cracked a smile. "Yep, I'll go get him."
I stood behind the counter, day dreaming about Li'l Carter. We had taken a liking to each other and he was adorable. He was a Great Dane, and a li'l puppy at that. He was only 3 weeks old, found in a alley. He was a brindle. Mom would be happy about that, because brindles only take one spot and thats their spot 'till they die. They only take up a little room, just one little spot. Hopefully Carter's spot would be in my room. I sat there daydreaming about all the fun we were going to have.
Just then a family walked in.
"Hello, we're here to look for a puppy," the mother said.
"Do you have any Great Danes?" the father asked.
"Um, well, you see-" I started to say.
"Oh! A puppy!" the little girl screamed.
Carter had walked in with Carter, and the two kids surrounded him.
"Hey! Woah, there! Don't scare him!" Carter said.
Carter, the dog, yipped.
"Perfect!" the father exclaimed. "We'll take him!"
"Sir?" Carter asked.
"Well, you see," the father said, "We want a Great Dane, and there's one right there."
"Yes, but sir-"
"Aww, isn't he precious!" the mother exclaimed.
"Mommy!" the son shrieked. "I want this one!"
"How much?" the mother asked, opening her wallet.
"Doesn't matter," the dad said. "We're getting this dog no matter what!"
"Sir!!!" Carter had to yell. "This young lady here was just about to adopt the lil Carter, so I'm sorry, but he's taken."
"Ma'm!" Carter yelled. "I'm sorry! But that's not the only dog we have, we have tons more."
Then the MOM'S face got red and she said,"I'm-I'm sorry. Let's go children! Chop-chop!"
And they went...the wrong way.
They came back out and headed in the right direction.
"Sorry, about that, Ariana."
"That's ok. What did she mean, 'Offer training services'?"
"Well, I was going to ask you if you wanted to train the dogs with another employee, since you're a natural."
"Alright, just fill out these forms, and since you work here and I know you don't worry about the parent signature if you're not 18 or older."
"Thanks, Carter."
"You're welcome, hon. Now get outta here and take him home!"
"Thanks again!"
"No prob-la-mo!"
And then I was gone.
