The Possessed

The Funeral Parlour stood on the Eron Hills of overgrown hedges under the moonlight, overlooking an abandoned country road, battered by the stale air of the rotting animals in the caves. Each tree leafless in its own place. And its branches and stalks bent like the waving hands of dead spirits. Verily it is a place of the possessed.

“Yeah meet me at that abandoned building on the hills, mental boy” whispered Dennis to Henry on the phone. “Shut up I’m not mental it’s just a little hallucination disorder, it doesn’t matter anyway remember get the can’s” replied Henry heatedly.  Henry and David are two friends that live on the same road just east of the Eron Hills. Henry has a hallucination disorder and has been a trouble for years. Both of the boys met outside of their local shop and ran to the Eron Hills to the spooky abandoned funeral parlour of which they did not know of.

They ran upon the slightly steep hill leading to the old and crusty doors of the building covered in desiccated vines. They pulled out cans of paint from their pockets and starting tagging the trees with their names. Out of the blue an old and wrinkly man in overalls and a badge saying “Mr Oldham Caretaker of Eron College 1989” He held a wooden brush and an old handkerchief. “Hello chaps! What are you doing, grafting on the trees are you, ooh we can’t have that” “but we’re bored man” urged the two boys. “Mm, ok then why don’t you graffiti this building that I care for, it’s abandoned so it doesn’t matter have fun!”

The boys wandered about as the door shut behind, Mr Oldham left immediately. “Look let’s graffiti this wall” called Henry. Henry went over to the wall, but stopped in his tracks. “What’s that sound?” something rattled up stairs on the second floor. The boys crept up the stairs and got to the second floor. “One, two, three go” shouted Henry running through the door.  The door shuddered like lighting striking a tree, and roasting it, beyond its scattered roots. “There’s no one here, come let’s turn back”

The boys turned backwards, until Henry stopped in his tracks again. “Dennis look behind you now!” Dennis leisurely looked back, his face plunged, and he looked like a gargoyle. A long black figure was front of the two boys.  It had no face, no limbs, nothing; it felt like staring into a tunnel. “RUUUUUN” screamed Henry. Dennis followed but was caught by the black figure. Henry called for him, but Dennis couldn’t move. “Help me Henry please!!!” Dennis urged. Henry mimed the word out “sorry” and ran for his life. He ran down the stairs and tried to open the entrance, but it wouldn’t budge.

He ran to the nearest room to find an entrance, he opened the door and saw the most blood curling thing in his life. He found Dennis, all hi s limbs chained up and his mouth engorged with nails. On his chest read out a word “BEWARE” Dennis groaned with pain. Henry went up to Dennis trying to unlock him. But was unsuccessful. Henry looked around and found a metal bar. He ran to the entrance and smashed it making his escape, abandoning Dennis. Henry ran as fast as his legs could carry him to the nearest police station. He slammed opened the police station doors and panted out “there’s, there’s a ghost in the old Eron College! DENNIS dead, need help” the officers stared at Henry in horror, one of the officer replied “hey isn’t that the Weavers kid, the one with the mental disorder” another officer replied “yeah it is, hey, I thought this time would never come; it’s time for Plan B” three officers came forward held Henry.

“Henry Weavers you are under arrest under The Mental Health Act 2009 of section 2 and article law 5” cautioned the officer. The officers led Henry crying and screaming away. They stored him in a black van and led him to The Royal Farsdo Mental Hospital. Henry was put in a cell alone. He was lying down on his bed with tears strolling down his cheeks like a Rowan tree shedding its leaves. He got up and wiped the last tear in his eyelashes. He then walked to the sink and washed his face and wiped it with a towel. He looked at the mirror in front of him, he saw the old man from the Eron College. He looked back no one was there.

He looked again and he could still see the old man. Then the man started wiggling and shifting into a long black figure. Henry’s face dropped, he realised they were the same people, his mind surely was possessed.
