7. He Did Three Things To My Phone...

Lucy’s POV

I started to quickly walk away from the building. Just as I was about to open the gate, I hear someone call my name.

‘Lucy! Wait!’

I swivelled around cautiously to find Louis standing there, still bare footed, with his jacket on inside out.

‘Louis! Get back inside and put some shoes on!’

‘My shoes are right here,’ he says with a grin, showing me the shoes in his left hand. As he put them on, he asked me if I wanted a ride to the mall. Oh crap. How to get out of this one?

‘No thanks, Lou. I told Amy to meet me in Costa first, to have a drink and such. It’s close enough to walk there.’ I mentally high-fived myself. Who knew I had such skill at lying? I turned to walk out of the gate when I felt a hand grab mine and he turned me around so I was facing him.

‘You don’t have to lie to me,’ he said softly. I sighed. So maybe I wasn’t as good at lying as I thought. I knew it was no use.

‘You don’t need to know my story.’ I whispered, almost on the verge of tears.

He lifted up my head and looked at me, as I saw how beautiful his blue eyes were. I instantly felt like a backstabber. How did I get myself into this mess?

Louis’ POV

‘I know,’ I said as I saw her beautiful blue eyes. ‘But I want to know.’

She sighed again. She should really stop doing that. But she then began to tell me everything.

‘I’m not quite sure why I’m telling you this,’ she began, ‘because we only met this afternoon. But I’ll tell you anyway. In the family it’s me and my mother. No one else. I don’t know who my dad is. But we’re fine on our own. Almost. We’re a little short on money. But I have a scholarship at school, so I get a good education. This is why I’m going to Costa. I have a job so I can earn money for college funds. If my mother knew she would make me quit. She doesn’t like me working hard. But if I don’t go to college I will never be able to support her like she’s been supporting me for seventeen years.’      A tear slid down her cheek. I caught it with my thumb.

‘Don’t cry, please,’ I said, almost crying myself.

Her story touched me. I felt guilty. Here I was enjoying limos and money and screaming girls, when all around me, people like Lucy are struggling for college, for support. She just needed to relax, let all her stress leave her, at least for an hour.

Then I had a plan.

Lucy’s POV

‘At least let me drive you to Costa. You’re late, so it might help you to get there quicker.’ Louis offered. I contemplated this. He was being really sweet, but I couldn’t stay in the car with him! When we pulled up to Costa and he got out, people would make assumptions. The word slipped out my mouth before I knew it.

‘Yes.’

We got into the car, him in the driver’s seat, me in the passenger’s seat. We drove for a while, longer than expected, and as we stopped at a red light I said ‘Aren’t the boys going to worry where you are? I mean, you’ve been gone a while.’

‘Oh yeah… can I borrow your phone to text Liam?  I left mine in Liam’s car.’

I handed him my phone. He used it for a while, longer than I thought he would to text Liam. When he finally handed it back I was a little worried to what he did to my phone. I checked it. He had done three things.

He had actually texted Liam telling him where we were.

He had added his phone number.

He had texted my boss saying I was ill.

Wait, what?

I looked at the road and realised we were going in the opposite direction to Parsons Green, where I work.

‘Louis… this isn’t the way to Costa,’ I said slightly worried now.

‘Oh, I know,’ Louis said with a mischievous glint in his eye.
