6. The big question

It was at dinner a few nights later when Emeli asked them a question that really surprised them both. They’d been sitting round the marble side table watching an episode of Glee, when the adverts came on, and Emeli calmly said,
“ You know Mia, your great at designing, and Tom your art grades are soaring compared to last year. So, Ive been thinking, this is something ive always wanted to do. How would you both feel about us having a smash at a family clothing line?”
The children just sat and stared at her in shock, quite confused about the whole situation.
Emeli carried on, “ Look, I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, and really it shouldn’t take to long to sort out. Pauline’s Boutique on the high street is up for sale, it’s a great space, honestly, it just needs a fair bit of re-decorating!” The twins were still confused, had their Mum finally lost the plot?
Emeli sighed, but Mia was beginning to understand what she was trying to imply.
“So I guess you want to buy Pauline’s Boutique, and like, design clothes to sell there?” Mia hesitantly guessed.
A smile came across Emeli’s face, she sighed.
“Not quite, your amost right though! What I was trying to say was, we can all take a section each to design. Mia, you could design girls clothes. Tom, you could design boys clothes and maybe even a range for men -if your feeling confident! And me? I’ll design womans clothes! It’s going to be just fabulous!”
Mia smirked, unsure if she liked the plan. Although she was really into designing, she wante to badly concentrate on her schoolwork, and she knew how hard it was to be opening a shop, not just a click of fingers or wave of a wand. Maybe her Mum was too wrapped up in a fantasy world, and needed a boot back into the present.
“Mum, you do know someone has to make the clothes, right? I might be handy with a sewing machine or needle and thread, but it isn’t that easy to come up with a full production line,”
“Yeah, I’m not so sure,” said Tom, who’d been avoiding the conversation.
“Oh darlings, darlings! I’ve everything sorted out.” She explained to them how she’d already spoken to a lecturer at the local University, and a few students in their last year studying fashion agreed to work the sewing machines.
The twins were pushovers, and agreed. A call was made to Jodie, Emeli’s old personal assistant who was no longer needed.
