My Friend Mac.

Zayn Malik is a lonely, shy and bullied boy with no friends and not much of an aim in life either! Things only get worse when he finds out his Father joins the army and is posted to Afghanistan, one of the most dangerous war zones you could imagine. Zayn is absolutely heartbroken and worried for his Dad, but before leaving, his father decides that Zayn needs a friend and a companion, he decides to take Zayn to their local dog and cat rescue Shelter where Zayn finds a 3 year old mongeral who is due to be put down as no one seems to want a stray like him, he doesn't even have a name! Zayn however quite likes this dog and decides he can't bear to just leave the dog at the shelter to die so he takes him home and names him "Mac".

As time goes by, Mac and Zayn love eachother so much. But what happens when the family are forced to move away and leave Mac? Mac escapes and embarks on the long journey home. Will he make it? Will Zayn even recognise his dog?

Zayn's POV *Aged Six*

'Mummy! Mummy!  Can me and Zayn go play?'  I heard my older sister, Doniya ask.

'Of course you can, sweetie!  Be back by six and have fun, alright?'

'Yes Mother! Zayn! Come on! Let's Go!'  I grinned and joined her.  I loved my sister so much, she was really pretty, she was really nice to me, we never had fights and she would always protect me from the mean boys and girls who would push me and say not nice things to me.

'Doniya!  Let's get my football and go to the lake!'  She nodded excitedly.  We were both very happy as it had snowed all of the previous night, I was so excited that I didn't really sleep last night, neither did Doniya, we just stayed up in my room and watched in fascination as the snow fell.

Today, we wanted to play footie and games by the lake as it was so fun when it had frozen over, Mummy also told us it was perfectly safe as snow covered the ice and froze, which means we never fell!  After that, We were gonna go to the park and have some snowball fights and then after tea, Daddy promised he'd help us build a snowman, just like every year.  It was a tradition that each year, we call the snowman a different name, and for this year, I'd chosen the name "Mac" which stood for "Mumma and Chocolate"  I came up with that because they were my two favourite things in the whole wide world!

Normally, we'd see lots and lots of children to play with us at the lake, but today it was empty.  That was a bit funny because it was never empty, we always had loads of other kids to play with.

But it didn't matter, we were gonna have fun no matter what!

Despite the lack of kids, football was really fun!  We started throwing snowballs at eachother, running around and laughing.  Doniya ended up winning, throwing so many snowballs it was actually starting to hurt, but it didn't stop me from rolling in the snow and laughing with Doniya right next to me.

'Doniya, where's the football?'

'Um..... Oh, it's back on the ice, I left it there by accident!'

'Silly billy!  Go get it then!' Doniya giggled and ran off.

I don't know how long passed, but I was getting cold and scared, Doniya wasn't back and it was getting really dark, i didn't like the dark!  Suddenly, I heard a voice calling me.

'Zayn! Doniya! Zayn!'

'Mummy!!!'  I got up and ran into her warm arms.

'Zayn, thank god!  Where's your sister?'

'I dunno, she went to get my football.'

'How long ago?'

'I dunno.'

'Right.... Come on, sweetie, let's go home.'  She carried me home and I snuggled into her warm arms.

Later that night, Daddy came home, he didn't look very happy.  He only said hello to me and then went to talk with Mummy.

About twenty minutes later, Daddy came and gave me a cuddle.  'Oh my god, Zayn.  I love you so much.'

'Daddy?  What's happening?'

'Zayn, I'm really sorry.  Doniya's never coming home, she's gone to heaven.'  I blinked twice before sobbing quietly into my Daddy's shirt.  He rocked me and assured me it was gonna be ok.

'Daddy?  I wanna go build Mac.'

'Son...'

'No, I wanna build it for her, it's what she wanted me to do.'  Daddy sighed.

'Ok, come on son, let's go.'
