9. The Unknowns who Brought Fire to the Sky

The next morning I kissed Will, Charlotte and my mother goodbye, not realizing it was going to be forever. My father kissed my mother passionately, giving her kind words of reassurance, while reminding her when she reached certain points to call and check in.

“Love you...you promise that you’re coming too right? You won’t forget about us and not come right?” Charlotte’s eyes pierced mine and my gut wrenched because I would never forget about them, her especially.

“I promise, Daddy and I have to pack more things up and we will be right behind you. Be a good girl for Mommy and Willy okay? I love you.”

She nodded her head and I picked her up, giving a huge kiss on her chubby cheek as she tangled her hands in my hair. After I strapped her into her seat I turned to face Will as he was making his way over to the driver’s side.

“Drive safe Will. I love you.” I told him a bit stiff, for some reason my throat became dry and my eyes started to water.

Will stared at me, “It’s just a few hours away Chels it’s not a big deal, why are you getting all sentimental all of a sudden?”

“I don’t know, I’m just tired is all. Just promise me you’ll take care of them and you’re going to be safe.” A hint of desperation clung to my words and I don’t know why but I needed Will to promise me that. It was that same feeling that I had felt at dinner a feeling I couldn’t shake. Will saw something in my eyes that made him place his hands on both of my shoulders and look me squarely in the eye, “I promise Bells.”

Unable to stop myself, I lunged myself into Will’s arms and gave him a hug, “You’re the best brother anyone could ask for.”

“Right back at ya, brother.” He smirked.

Okay sentimental moment passed and I punched Will in the arm.

“Ow.” He rubbed his arm and climbed in waiting for my mother to get in the car as he started the engine. My mother came up to me after she kissed my dad for last one time and hugged me tightly.

“I’m sorry all this happening so fast, you haven’t even had a full week back yet and things are just hectic right now. You don’t need this added stress to you, you hide it so well honey but I know you’re not okay deep down and that’s okay. You don’t have to pretend for our sakes, you put too much stress on yourself. When we come back, things are going to change around here, we will get this family back together again. I love you.”

My mom kissed me on my forehead as she wrapped me into a tight hug, I was so touched by her astute observations about me that I didn't know how to respond. Instead, I opted to say “I love you too, Mom.”

The truth of her words and her concern for me stunned me to my core and caught me off guard. I was briefly aware as they drove away, that I didn’t even say thank you to my mom for her kind words.

My father went off to work for his meeting while I packed away more clothes and various items into some of the suitcases. I heard a knock at the door and found Jack standing there, my mind raced as I realized I hadn’t even filled him in on the family crises that was going on. His tight lips, and furrowed brow told me he must’ve found out I was leaving for a few days from William. Jack wore a black long sleeved shirt with dark jeans and black sneakers. He looked good enough to eat, I thought for a brief moment before cursing myself, I had more important things to worry about at this point than sex.

“I heard. I’m sorry about your aunt, are you okay?” He asked me as his eyes swept over my face, searching for any indication I was going to break down.

“Yeah, I’m fine. Come in...you didn’t have to stop by. I’m sorry I didn’t call and let you know-” I started to say before Jack’s mouth on mine cut me off. His feverish kiss caught me off guard as I lifted my arms around his neck, he broke off the kiss first, much to my dismay.

“You have nothing to be sorry about, I understand. I just had to make sure you were okay, when are you coming back?”

"In a few days, I just have to be with my family right now."

"Of course, I would expect nothing less of you to put your family first. You're a great daughter and sister...I just wish you didn't have to go. I'm going to miss you, feels like I just got you back." He told me. I placed his right hand in mine and brought it to my lips in a soft kiss on his knuckles.

"I know...I'm going to miss you too Jack."

"I'll be here waiting for you when you come back." He muttered, grazing my cheek with his other hand outlining my jaw. His touch set my skin on fire and I started to move closer to him, Jack was two steps ahead of me as his lips crashed into mine and he pulled me into a tight embrace. His hands were every where at once and the fresh scent of grass and pine engulfed me. His lips devoured mine and I couldn't breath, my hands tangled in his soft hair. Our bodies were pressed together as if we were both trying to jump into each other's skin. It took damn near my whole strength to regretfully slow down the pace and eventually disengage myself from his arms.

Jack's hair was slightly ruffled and his full pink lips slightly reddened by the eagerness of our kiss. My chest heaved up and down while I tried to regain normal breathing patterns and my lips felt slightly swollen. Jack swallowed hard before he smiled at me and I smiled back.

"I should probably let you get back to packing huh?"

"Yeah, you probably should...before..."

"Don't say it or it'll make it that much harder to walk out that door." He smiled.

"Damn teenage hormones." I joked.
"Damn them indeed." Jack said, clearing his throat.

"I'll call you when I get on the road."
"Okay, sounds good. I'll see you when you get back, I love you."
"Love you too."

He pulled me in for a quick hug and peck on the forehead before he turned for the door. I stared at the closed door for a moment before I threw it open and ran after him.

"Jack!" I yelled after him, running full speed at him.

I jumped into his arms as he caught me in a big embrace, his lips crushed mine in a frenzied kiss. His hands tangled in my hair as I wrapped my legs around his waist. Jack carried me all the way back inside my house slamming the front door shut with his powerful long leg. There was an urgency in his kisses that drove me crazy and I couldn't breathe, Jack literally took my breath away.
