The Other Side

Nicole. That's what I call myself. I don't know what my real name is because I was left alone, abandoned at such a young age. I think my mother died or was murdered because she would never leave me. But who knows, she could be searching for me. Street by street. Town by town. Heart by heart.

3. Figure it Out

"Dad?" I almost whisper. He turns pale, opens his mouth but nothing comes out. Not a sound. We lock eyes and neither one of us breaks the steady stare. "Amanda?" He finally says. Amanda. Amanda Williams. That's what my name is. Amanda Williams. I try to speak but I feel the pinching of tears crawling behind my eyes. I look down at my feet, he moves closer. This time I don't back away, I run and hug my once-lost and now-found father. He wobbles but grabs on to my sweater. He is shocked. He rests his head on my shoulder, when I hear the soft sobs escaping from him. "I love you." He whispers. "I love you to Dad." I reply. Then it's silent except for the cars racing past us. But I don't care. I have found one of my parents and that's all that matters. I just have to find Mom.
