24. Unreal

When we woke up, we cleaned up our room, seeing as though this was the last time we'd be in it because it was the last day of boot camp and then we were either going home or going to the Judge's Houses.

"I can't tell if I want breakfast or if all that food from last night is good enough," I commented as Jade and I packed our bags. She laughed, agreeing with me but then she offered to go order us breakfast. About ten minutes later of us packing, there was a knock so I told her I'd get it. The guy wheeled in the cart and I thanked him as he left.

"I could live here," Jade stated as we sat at the table. I nodded in agreement. After breakfast, we finished getting ready, bumping hips and pushing each other around playfully. We had become friends quick and I liked it. After everything that happened with Missy, it was nice to have someone to talk to until the sun rose. It was good to have a laugh with someone who wasn't leaving me for a guy anytime soon, but I was still missing Missy at the bottom of my heart.

"Let's go. Practice," Jade ordered as we were in the elevator to go to the lobby and head off to the arena with everyone else. "Jade!" I whined. "Bri, now," Jade ordered. I groaned and threw my head back before I began practicing the song I was going to sing to her which made her smile. She clapped as soon as we reached the lobby as I stopped singing and she looked ecstatic but I just nudged her as the elevator doors opened.

It was a whirlwind after arriving back at Wembley. Time seemed to fly by. One second, I was just humming the tune to the song I was going to sing, remembering the lyrics with each note and the next thing I knew, I was clutching a microphone in the middle of the stage. A whirlwind. It seemed to be happening to a lot of things in my life recently. I mean, how does a girl like me get this opportunity?

"Hi there sweetheart," Gary greeted as I looked at the four judges in front of me.

"Hello," I said gently. They all smiled at me.

"We're ready when you are," Kelly stated with a warm smile. I looked backstage towards the sound guy. He nodded at me and I felt my heart thump in my chest as the beat to my song began to play. I glanced at the crowd as my knee bent to the constant humming of the beat.

"I just want you close," I began and five words into a song, the crowd burst into applause, "Where you can stay forever. You can be sure, that it will only get better."

No One by Alicia Keys. It was one of the first songs I learned how to play on the piano all by myself so it meant a lot to be singing it on a stage, fulfilling my dreams. The song had a lot of meaning behind it and I wondered if people thought about it. Maybe not, maybe so, but I was living out my dreams right now. Even if I didn't make it through, I was performing to an audience. On television. Well it would be on television as soon as it aired and if I made the episode.

"You and me together, through the days and nights. I don't worry 'cause everything's gonna be alright. People keep talking, they can say what they like but all I know is everything's gonna be alright," Yes. This crowd was clapping along to the song I was singing right now. It felt good. I felt the music running through my veins as if it was my oxygen. I was smiling and I hadn’t even noticed it. It just felt right. Everything just so surreal at the moment. "No one, no one, no oneeeee can get in the way of what I'm feeling. No one, no one, no oneeee can get in the way of what I feel for you, you, you. Can get in the way of what I feel for you."

"Wow," Tulisa said as the crowd began cheering. A standing ovation. The crowd stood up, cheering, wolf-whistling. It was like my audition all over again. A laugh escaped my throat at how unreal it was. My life was unreal. This was all unreal. My eyes followed the outline of the darkened crowd, the lights burning into my eyes as I did so, but I just stood there with a huge smile on my face, most likely looking like an idiot on camera.

"Wow," Tulisa repeated. I laughed gently, my gaze finally focusing on them, "I mean... I don't even... WOW!" She said again and the crowd all laughed as they cheered. The judges were all smiling at me and I put my hand to the back of my neck, feeling the slight perspiration that had formed on my fingertips, but ignored it, biting my lip, "I mean, obviously I'm speechless," Tulisa laughed as the crowd cheered again.

"She has a point. Tulisa has a point. You are amazing, Briana. Truly absolutely amazingly talented is what you are," Louis nodded, pointing his pen at me with a smile. My top and bottom teeth chewed down into my lip, drawing a bit of blood, just as it had after my audition, something that seemed to be my new bad habit.

"Bri," Kelly called and my attention turned to her, "Your voice never fails to amaze me. Never. You give me goose bumps! Gary, tell me you don't see these!" She said, pointing to her arm and Gary studied it before nodding his head, looking up at me.

"She does indeed," He stated with a smile and the crowd cheered. I put the hand that wasn't holding my microphone to my lips, "You are talented, Miss Bri. You are truly gifted. Don't hide it."

"I don't plan on it," I said into the microphone, earning a deafening applaud from the audience. With that, I was led off the stage with a huge smile. As I reached backstage, other contestants congratulated me and told me that I did excellent. Of course, I got some nasty looks but ignored them, heading off to find Jade to see if she had gone on yet.

"Bri!" I heard Jade's voice call. I spun around just in time for her to tackle me into a bone-crushing hug, "You did amazing out there! I knew you'd rock it!"

"Thanks," I laughed lightly, "Did you go on yet?"

"I did when you were practicing. No worries, it went well," Jade smiled and I laughed, nudging her hip as we went to grab some water.

"We're through!"

To some people, it would sound like someone maybe just broke up. To others, it may be that you're done with something. Like maybe you just finished cleaning the house after an entire day. But to a few individuals, it could be life changing. It could mean the beginning of a bright future. Or the start of a career. Or in my case, the fact I was climbing my way through the X Factor.

"We're through," I said numbly. Jade was jumping up and down, her arms looping around me as I stood there, "WE'RE THROUGH!" Jade burst into laughter as I started to scream, jumping up and down, basically bouncing off of the walls as we spun in circles, hugging each other until we couldn't breathe. We were on the ground, gasping for air, our chests heaving. One of the girls she had to sing with, Leigh Anne had been with us in the excitement and had gladly taken our invitation for a classic freak out of excitement.

So far, everything had been going great. Next step: Judge's Houses.
