9. The Kiss

"Hey, right on time!" Missy chirped when she walked into my bedroom. I was just picking up my phone to call her. I smiled weakly at her, shoving my phone into my pocket. She smiled at me. A bright, happy smile and I knew it was because I decided to leave my room, "Ready to go?"

"Yeah," I nodded. We decided to go to a little cafe we always went to when we wanted to talk. We sat down in a familiar booth. I was playing with the straw in my soda as Missy watched me. I could feel her eyes studying me and tried to ignore it before finally looking up into her questioning eyes, "What do you want to know?"

"I know everything that happened, Bri and I get why you left. I just... I don't know. Do you like him?" She inquired.

"Yes, I like him. I just... I don't know, Miss. I don't know what to do. He probably hates me and never wants to talk to me again."

"That's a lie actually. He's been asking about you since yesterday. He's worried about you. Which is why I think you should talk to him," She said, taking a sip from her soda, "Tonight."

"Tonight?!" I questioned, eyes going wide.

"You're going to have to do it eventually. Why not just do it tonight? The guys are all at Liam's. We can go over there and you can talk to him."

"I don't think I can do that, Miss... It's too soon."

"If you do it any later, it might be too late," She added. The thought crossed my mind, an image of Niall with another girl. All because I wouldn't talk to him and confess my liking to him, explain why I ran away from him.

"I'm nervous."

"You shouldn't be. It's just Niall. He still likes you. Nothing's different about him. He won't hold it against you that you didn't kiss him," She said. I nodded and smiled at the waitress who brought over our food. She placed it in front of us and we both thanked her and she smiled sweetly at us before walking off.

"I suppose you're right," I sighed.

After we ate and saw some romantic comedy which killed me, we went back to my house. The movie was about a couple who fell in love, had a problem, and then got married and everything was better. The entire time I thought of Niall. I hoped he would forgive me and that maybe I'd have the same chance of falling in love as they did in the movie.

"Are you ready to go?" Missy asked after my mother had basically shoved dessert down our throats. She was just ecstatic that I was out of my room and wanted me to eat more food to make up for the food I hadn't eaten. She thanked Missy when I went to the bathroom and I knew I wasn't supposed to hear it but I had.

"Alright, let's go. Bye Mama Hill!" She called over her shoulder as she grabbed my arm, leading me out of the house. At first, I wasn't that nervous but with each step we took towards Liam’s, a butterfly formed in my stomach and by the time we reached the door, my stomach was in knots and I felt sick. I could barely breathe, "Relax Briana. It's okay."

"I can't do this. Missy, please? I can't," I pleaded. Missy shook her head, keeping me in front of her. As I started to back up, Missy still holding me, the door opened. I thought I was going to be sick right then and there. Liam answered the door. As I turned around after Missy 's arms let go of me, I went to take off but two arms slipped around my body, pulling me into their arms.

"Come on, Bri," Liam whispered. He kept his arms around me as I turned in his arm. My arms wrapped around his waist, clinging to his body. He kissed the top of my head, stroking my back lovingly, "It'll be okay."

"I can't do it. I can't see him," I managed to get out. I looked up at him and Liam tucked some of my curls behind my ear.

"You can. I know you can," He reassured. He let go of me but kept his hand on the small of my back, leading me towards the living room where I heard muffled voices. As we neared, I could feel my hands shake and my heart pounded quickly, "Hey! We have a visitor!"

It fell silent as Liam walked in. All eyes turned to us, eventually all glued to me. I probably looked like a nervous wreck. I felt so self-conscious at that point. I wondered if my hair was messed up or if my outfit was too casual or if they knew how nervous and scared I actually was.

"Briana! How ya doin', love?" Louis questioned with a wide smile after a moment of silence.

"Uh, fine," I replied with a small smile. Of course they would know I'm scared. My eyes turned away from Louis, glancing around the room before meeting Niall's eyes. My breath caught in my throat and my heart beat increased. He looked at me with worried, protective eyes, yet they held so much pain. I was ready to leave the room,"Uh, I have to go."

"No you don't," Liam said, pulling me back into his arms as I turned around, ready to walk out. He swung me into his arms, keeping his arms locked around my waist, "Niall? Would you like to talk to Briana? Because I believe she came here to talk to you."

"Liam, I, uh," I stuttered, trying to come up with an excuse in my mind but found nothing.

"Niall?" Liam questioned demandingly. Niall slowly stood up and my heart fell into pieces. I couldn't take the pressure anymore. I was so nervous, it was unbelievable. Liam made me look up at him, "You are going upstairs in my room and you are not leaving until you two are done talking, understand?" I nodded slowly.

I walked up to Liam's room quietly, walking ahead of Niall. I headed into his room, walking over to his bed and sitting on the edge of it, resting my hands on both sides of me to move me onto it comfortably. Niall closed the door behind him and walked over to Liam’s computer chair, sitting on it, turning it around to face me. I looked at the ground, hoping we could avoid the talk.

"You're shaking," Niall pointed out. I looked at my hands and sure enough, they were shaking. I laced my fingers together, putting them in my lap and nodding, looking towards the window, avoiding his gaze. I could feel it on me. I could feel him staring at me, "Bri, look at me. Please?"

I didn't move my gaze from the window, hoping he'd understand, but I heard the chair move and a hand lifted my chin up, moving it over to look Niall right into the eyes. His blue eyes. How mesmerized they made me. I was dead. I was breathless. I was terrified.

"There. Much better," He smiled at me and with no returned smile, it dropped a little, "Bri, can you please talk to me?"

"There's nothing to say, Niall," I said and tore my head away from his hand, looking at the ground, "I messed up, okay? I get it. We talked. Can I please leave?"

"You messed up? How did you mess up?" I looked up at him. I looked into his curious, confused eyes.

"I walked away from you, Niall..." I trailed off as if he was dumb, "You were going to kiss me and I ran away from you like a little girl."

"We all get scared, Briana. Missy told me and don't kill her. I understand why you're scared, but why don't you trust me? Why can't you give me a chance?" The tone he used was pleading. He was begging me to give him a chance. After everything I put him through, he was here, asking me to give him a chance. If I didn't think he was the sweetest boy in the world, I wouldn't have the same butterflies I had in my stomach.

"You scare me," I said gently, looking up into his eyes.

"Why?" He whispered, moving closer to me. I looked away from him for a moment and then back to him, sighing.

"I've never got feelings for someone so quick, let alone had feelings like this at all. I just… We met a few days ago, Niall. I barely know anything about you," I said with an innocent shrug.

"Well my name is Niall James Horan. I have one older brother named Gregg. I'm in One Direction. I'm from Mullingar, which is in Ireland. I can play guitar. I'd like to think I can be romantic so if you'd go on a date with me, I can tell you even more," He said quickly. A smile formed on my lips and I giggled. A smile made its way onto his face when he realized I was smiling, "So what do you say?"

"On one condition," I said. He looked at me, waiting, "Nothing too fancy."

"Darn! You just destroyed my idea. Fine, but only on one condition," He added with a smile. I laughed, tilting my head to the side in curiosity.

"And that is?"

"I can attempt what I tried to do the other night," He said sweetly. God, this kid would be the death of me, "And you can't run away this time."

"I don't think I'm going to," I admitted as he leaned towards me. I could feel his breath on my lips. My heart raced as butterflies bounced off of the walls of my stomach. My eyes fluttered close as he placed his lips over mine lightly, as if expecting me to run away again. When he realized I was going nowhere, he deepened the kiss. It was a sweet, soft kiss. It gave me butterflies. I felt like I could fly. Invisible fireworks went off.

"That wasn't so bad, was it?" Niall asked, our faces still close to each other. I smiled.

"Just shut up and kiss me," I whispered. He smiled and eagerly pressed his lips back to mine as my arms looped around his shoulders, clasping together at the back of his neck. He moved closer, resting his hands on my hips.

"Well now I can't wait for our first date," He said, eyes wide with wonder after we pulled apart. I laughed, hitting his chest as he smiled at me, "I suppose we should go down? Before they think something's wrong."

I sighed heavily and he chuckled. He stood up, extending his hand to me and I took it as I stood up. Our fingers laced together and we headed downstairs. We heard muffled voices stop when we were on the stairs. We looked at each other, knowing they were waiting for us. As we walked in, all eyes flew to us. Then down to our intertwined hands.

"YES!" Louis shouted, shooting out of his seat with excitement with the other boys as Missy smiled, getting whisked out of her seat by Zayn who spun her in an excited circle, causing her to giggle.

"So... what's up, guys?" Harry asked coolly as they all sat back down, acting like they hadn't gone wild.

"Yeah, did everything go alright?" Liam questioned, eyebrows furrowing together. I laughed as Niall squeezed my hand.

"Yeah, everything's great. Fantastic actually!" Niall nodded. I nudged him, laughing lightly and he looked at me with a smile. I could see it in his eyes that he was happy.

"Yeah, Miss, I'm going to need some help," I said, pointing to her. She looked up at me curiously, "With?” I smiled mischievously as Niall chuckled, "An outfit for our date!"

"YEAH!" The boys all cheered as Missy's face broke out into a huge grin. She nodded furiously, agreeing to do whatever I asked her to.
