5. Start of Something New

Niall's POV.

"Where are Bri and Bella?" Liam’s mom asked as the Hills and Missy sat down in the living room.

"Boys," Was all Mama Hill said, narrowing her eyes at Jonathan and Jason who swayed from side to side.

"We were messing around and I shoved Jonathan into Bella and she got a bloody nose," Jason said innocently, bowing his head as Jonathan ducked his head as well. My mom scolded them lightly as we all began to converse. After a while, Jason went to get the door because there was a gentle knock.

And that's when she walked in.

That's when Briana took my breath away and I knew I needed her.

She walked into the room with a look mixed of both aggravation and happiness. Her hips swayed with every step and her heels clicked to the solid wood floor, creating the perfect sound. The dress she wore hugged her body, sculpting her body more perfectly than it already was. Her hair was pulled back in an elegant bun at the edge of her shoulder, revealing her long, smooth neck. She smiled stunningly yet effortlessly at the house full of guests, receiving a tight embrace.

"Hello Dr. Hill. How's our patient?" Liam’s dad kidded, placing a kiss on her soft cheek.

"As good as new," Bella reassured, popping into the room with Jason. If we hadn't been informed that she had had a bloody nose, I would have never guessed Bella once had blood dripping from her nose, "Bri is almost as good of a doctor as mom is!"

"That's because she was raised by these hands. Us Hill woman know how to cure a patient, my darling, including you," Mama Hill said, stroking Bella's hair back with a smile. Briana laughed at her mother's words and shook her head before walking over to Missy who smiled at her, greeting her by pulling her into a hug, whispering something into her ear. Her mouth slackened a bit in shock and she put a hand to her mouth. She looked at Missy who nodded in confirmation.

For a while, that's how it was. The adults went in one room, leaving us in the other. Missy, Bella, and Bri seemed in their own world as they talked between one another. She turned her head away from their conversation, looking around, trying to find something else to look at. It seemed like she was bored with the conversation. Her body slumped over as she rested her elbow on her knee and rested her head on her fist.

I heard myself calling her name before I could realize it and her head turned to me. I was at a loss for words, wondering why I had called her name and instead beckoned for her to go on a walk with me. She nodded in relief, telling her sister and best friend that she would be back soon and stood up, smoothing out her dress. I got up along with her and it felt like the entire room's eyes were on us as we walked out together.

"Thank you so much for saving me. I don't think I could listen to another minute of Bella and Miss talking about shoes. As much as I love to wear them, I can't stand the topic!" She chirped as we walked out of the house, "And I hate to be un-ladylike but I've been in these shoes for less than an hour and my feet already kill."

As she concluded with those words, she rested her hand on my arm, stopping us in our walk and slid one shoe off her foot at a time. She held them in her right hand as we walked, her bare feet padding along the warming sidewalk. Conversation flowed easily between us as we filled it with light-hearted laughter and smiles.

"We should head back. They might be wondering where we went and dinner should be ready and from what I heard, you like food," She giggled. I smiled at her and she bumped into me lightly and apologized quietly.

"Well I do. What boy doesn't? All I need is food, my boys, and a girl who can cook food," I kidded.

"You're in luck!" She chirped and I turned to her, "I'm an excellent cook." She sent me a mind-blowing smile that made my heart beat a little quicker and found myself smiling as I watched her.

We made it back to the Payne’s with two huge grins. As we headed in, the boys greeted us in relief as they explained the food was ready and Missy who was smiling at Briana with a knowing look. The first thing I saw Briana do was roll her eyes at her best friend and slap her arm lightly as Missy giggled, tickling Bri's side.

As we sat for dinner, I found myself sitting across from Briana again and as we all ate, making conversation with each other and sharing jokes, I would find myself stealing glances at her. From time to time, I'd catch her eye but other than that, we had continued our game of footsie in which I had beaten her in yesterday.

"You know, if you keep it up playing that game with me, it's going to be war," Briana stated as we all sat outside after dessert. The sky was dark now and there were a few scattered stars in the sky. We sat side-by-side, leaning back as Bella was being spun around in circles by Harry and Liam, and Missy was getting a piggy-back ride from Zayn.

"War it is. Obviously, I will win, because I've been winning," I concluded. She stuck her tongue out at me childishly and giggled, "I should get a prize."

"Oh, so now you think you're worthy of a prize?" She questioned, looking at me with raised eyebrows. I nodded and she smiled. She leaned over and placed a kiss on my cheek, letting her lips linger there. The feeling of her soft, smooth lips against my cheek made my cheeks warm up after she pulled away, "How's that for a prize?"
