23. Celebrating

"Alright, you lot are up next," A crew member said with a funny microphone around his head that stayed put by his mouth that he talked into from time to time. I found my amusement in that, letting it relieve the tension building in my stomach and shoulders. Patrick managed a smile out of me as he soothed me as if he was my father. It was kind of reassuring. It reminded me of home now that I was here all alone. Alex and my parents had gone home, no longer needing to be here.

"Alright, on you go," A guy ushered us onto the stage and I met Jade's gaze as she walked off the stage. She sent me a reassuring smile, mouthing a good luck to me as I gave her a thumbs up for her performance. We headed onto the stage and the second I was revealed to the crowd and the lights and the judges, I felt the sweat from the light fixtures shining on us began to prick at the back of my neck.

"Hello," Louis greeted everyone. My palms got a little sweaty but I ignored it, only tightening the grip on my microphone. We all greeted the judges with "hello's" as well and they smiled at us, asking us if we were ready and such. I was the one starting off the song and I desperately wanted to say "No. No we aren't ready." but then the nagging feeling in my stomach reminded me that this was what I wanted.

"Alright. Off you go," Tulisa said with a small smile. As the music to Breakeven began, I swallowed all of my fears, taking two steps forward as the beginning of the song was coming up, signaling that that was my cue to go. Me. I was starting the song. Yeah. Me. Briana Hill. I was starting. The thoughts ran through my head a mile a minute but I took one deep breath, pushing them aside as I thought of what I was doing here.

"I'm still alive but I'm barely breathing," I sang. I heard the crowd begin to cheer but I kept the microphone glued to my lips, feeling my heart beat quicker and quicker as my eyes fell to the crowd, "Just prayin' to a God that I don't believe in. Cos I got time while he got freedom, cos when a heart breaks, no it don't break even."

As my part ended, I took the same two steps back as another member of my group stepped forward for their part. I kept my eyes on the crowd, occasionally looking at the ground, refusing to look at any of the judges. As the end of our song came and more lyrics had managed to escape my lips, the arena applauded us. After some quick words, we were ushered off the stage as the next group was on.

"Good job, Bri," Jade greeted me with a smile as we got backstage. She gave me a hug which I accepted, hugging her back. We walked, our arms around each other as we laughed, letting our previous nerves release.

You could say Jade and I were ecstatic to hear we were going through to the next round. We had celebrated by getting bunches of room service and watching movies that the hotel had. We had managed to eat so much without throwing it up before we fell asleep.
