11. Chapter 11

"What are you going to choose Emelia? You could do so much!" I sighed, frustrated. This was going to be the twentieth time I've gone through my list of suggestions with Tulisa and Ella.

"Something tells me that you're not quite proud at the moment," Ella noted.

"Not particularly," I said dryly.

"But do you really want to tackle another Whitney song?" Ella said, concerned.

"I say why not," Tulisa objected. "She already blew the first one out of the water, why not a second?"

"Well," Ella hesitated. "It's not that I don't think she'll do it well, it's just that she should have more variety." She took a breathe. "You sounded really good singing Harder Than You Know," she said.

"She sounded good with every song she sang," Tulisa said, exasperated.

"That doesn't help," Ella said.

"I think that I could pull off vulnerability with Whitney," I said, quietly. "Imagine it," I urged, grabbing Ella's wrists."Close your eyes." She obeyed, somewhat reluctantly. "The stage and house are dark, and everything is silent. Suddenly, in the dark, you hear my voice, singing the first strain. No accompaniment, no nothing until I get to the chorus. The audience will be enticed and mesmerized by the dark, as if my voice were a dream. As I begin the chorus, the piano quietly starts playing as the lights slowly turn on on the middle of the stage, where I'll be, wearing a long ball gown. The whole song itself is a giant crescendo." I took a breathe. "Can't you see it El?" She opened her eyes, looking at me with a dreamy look on her face.

"That was beautiful Em," she admitted.

"That sounds like it be amazing," Tulisa added. "I say we do it." I grinned triumphantly, happily clapping my hands together.

"When can we start working?" I asked, suddenly giddy.

"How's about after lunch?" Tulisa suggested. "That gives you girls time to be girls, and it gives me time to work with Jade and Lucy." I nodded like a bobble head.

"Look at this bird!" Ella exclaimed. "She's running on pure adrenaline!"

"I can't help it!" I whined. "I'm super excited to start working!" Tulisa chuckled at me.

"That's what I like to see," she said, throwing a wink at me. Then she left the room.

"Where do you want to go for lunch?" Ella asked.

"I don't mind," I replied, "as long as we go with the boys."

"If they're free," Ella pointed out. I shrugged at her. "What about Nando's?" I was quiet for a moment. "Emmy?"

"I feel like it'll be weird," I said slowly, "without the other boys there." We were both silent for a bit. "Or am I just crazy?"

"No," Ella admitted. "I was thinking that too. I was just offering because I didn't want it to seem like I was still thinking about them." I chuckled.

"We're a messed up pair, aren't we?" I noted. We giggled together at that. "In fact, I don't feel like going out into the public."

"Do you want to just order in?" Ella asked.

"But what?" I asked.

"That's what the boys will decide." Ella said.

"What will the boys do?" A low voice asked behind us. We turned. All seven boys were walking our way. I wasn't quite sure who had spoken, but it sounded like either JJ or Greg.

"Choose what we'll order in for lunch," I answered.

"Why don't we walk somewhere?" Mickey asked. "Like to-"

"We already decided that we wanted to order in," I interrupted. Mickey looked at me, with a muted surprised look. I felt terrible; snapping at Mickey felt like kicking a puppy, but it was something that had to be done.

"Alright," Dan said, loudly clapping his hands. "We manly men, in order to choose a sufficient meal, must meet in private and discuss the issue free from the ears and distraction of females."

"So all that was formal talk for 'No Girls Allowed?'" Ella asked, sounding bored.

"Basically, yes," Josh said with a grin. I noticed that Ella blushed a bit, but I ignored it.

"That's okay," Ella said. "Emmy and I were heading to the bathroom anyways." Jaymi stared at us quizzically.

"I've never understood that," he said. "Why do girls have to go to the bathroom in groups? What are they afraid of? Is their gossip really so juicy that it must only be told behind the confined walls of the lavatory?" We just giggled and left the boys alone.

Once we were in the bathroom. Ella turned to the mirror, clearly avoiding eye contact with me.

"Emmy," she said, simply. "Do you promise that you won't get mad if I tell you this?" She made tentative eye contact with me in the mirror.

"Of course I won't get mad?" I said, confused. "Why would I get mad? What is it Ella?" She took a deep breathe.

"I like Josh." There was silence.

"Ella, why would I get mad at that?" I asked. "That's great!"

"But I know he fancies you," Ella started.

"No, he doesn't," I said. "Even if he did, it doesn't matter because I only like him as a friend, and nothing more." I lied to her. I admit that I wasn't mad, but I knew that Josh and I had feelings for each other. Why else would he kiss me? Why else would he tell me that he was in love with me? Admittedly, that's probably the quickest way to get rid of a girl, it kind of made me fall in love with him a little more.

"Well, he clearly doesn't see you as only a friend," Ella muttered.

"Why would you say that?" I asked. "All of the boys love you!"

"Yes, and they all love you," Ella said, irritated. "But that doesn't change the fact that both the Liam Payne and Josh Cuthbert are both in love with you."

"That's not true!" I admonished, pushing away the memory of my kiss shared with Josh. "Either of those guys would be lucky to be with you!" Ella gave me an unconvinced smirk.

"Whatever," she said. "Let's go back before the boys start to worry," she added.

"Wrong," I said. "They won't worry; they're too oblivious."

"Well, I kind of want to leave anyways," Ella said, sharply; she sounded kind of annoyed.

"Okay," I said, trying not to sound wounded. She left me alone in the bathroom as I watched her leave. Why was she so angry with me? I was far from angry with her. In a deep pit in the back of my mind, I couldn't help but wonder if she knew about the Josh and my kiss the other night. My phone buzzed in my pocket. Louis.

What song are you singing next week? his text asked me.

Surprise (:  I replied, giggling to myself. I left the bathroom, finding the group. All the boys were still there, but Ella was no where to be found.

"Where's Ella?" I asked Josh, because the rest of the boys were just putzing around.

"She went to her room," he replied. "She said to call her when the food comes." I didn't answer. "What's wrong? You look unsettled; what happened between you two?" I sighed and looked around.

"Promise you won't tell?" I said. He nodded to me. I stuck out my pinky. "Pinky swear?" Josh chuckled, but pinky swore with me. I leaned into his ear. "Ella has a crush on you," I whispered. Josh look stunned. "She says it doesn't matter because you like me."
"She knows?" he said, surprised. I looked at him in disbelief.

"Aren't you hearing the important message?" I asked. "Ella likes you! Ella is so amazing!"

"But what about you?" Josh said. "And how does she know that I like you?" I sighed.

"I hate to break it to you," I told him with a smirk, "but I think everyone knows." Josh raised his brow.

"Everyone?" Josh said.

"Almost everyone has hinted it to me," I confessed.

"Does everyone know about....?" Josh's voice trailed off, but I knew what he was talking about.

"No," I said. "I don't think anyone knows."

"But, Ella?" Josh said, uncertainly. "Are you sure she even likes me?"

"She loves you!" I said. Josh made a face.

"I'm sure she doesn't," Josh said.

"Then why would she tell me that?" I asked him, giving him a look. He just stared at me.

"Does what happened between us even matter to you?" Josh whispered. "At all?" I bit my lip.

"Of course it does," I said, hesitantly, "but I was in a vulnerable state-" and I cut off when I saw Josh's eyes shut down.

"How quickly you dismiss our love," Josh said, fiercely. And then he whipped around and walked away.

"Josh," I called after him, but he didn't turn around. I watched after him. Of course, I could make the boy that loves me hate me in just an instant.

As if in a daze, I pulled out my phone and texted Liam. Josh just left me,I texted. I'm pretty sure he hates me.

Before I could put my phone away, I got a text back immediately. Where are you? it asked. Are you at the hotel? I smiled.

I'm on my way.

I grinned as I started to put my phone away. Then it buzzed one more time. It was Louis. You texted Liam, didn't you?

Guilty as charged. I grinned at my phone like an idiot. Where are you guys anyways? I had to know. If Liam decided in an instant that he was going to come see me in an instant, I had to at least know where he was coming from.

New York. I felt my stomach drop.

And he's on his way to see me? I was in disbelief. Why was he coming? He was leaving a different country to come see me? How long did he think that would take?

I'm joking. We're in Paris. I sighed at him. Of course he was joking. That subsided me a bit.

I love Paris! I've never been there, but...

Why is Liam coming to see you? I sighed. I actually wasn't quite sure, now that I think about it.

Everyone's mad at me. Ella is annoyed with me, Josh is mad at me and no one else will talk to me.

What have you done?

Ella likes Josh, but Josh is angry that I don't like him.

And now Liam's getting added to the mix, splendid! We're all on our way!

What? No! Louis! But he never answered me. I sighed and went to go find Jaymi or JJ. It seemed like the whole hotel was empty. My stomach rumbled, reminding me that I still hadn't had lunch.

"Where is everyone?" I couldn't help but ask, knowing that no one would answer me. Hadn't we agreed on the boys deciding on lunch? I just wanted to know where everyone was. Not only was I hungry, but I was also getting pretty lonely. My phone buzzed in my pocket. It was Liam.

I'm on my way. I just boarded the plane. I'll see you in two hours or less. I couldn't help but giggle. This boy was crazy! He was coming all the way from Paris to see me. My phone buzzed now. I hope you don't mind that the boys followed me,

Of course not! I responded. I sighed. Louis hadn't been joking when he texted me. Of course, who was I to doubt him. Only Louis would carry on with such a ridiculous plan.

I walked down to my room in silence and alone. When I walked into the room, I was reminded of how cold the room was without Carolyn. I bit back tears and quickly looked away from the bed  that Carolyn used to claim as her own. I was told that I should push both of the beds together so that I could have a larger bed, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. I would've been different if I hadn't gotten attached to her. It would've been different if she hadn't been like a mother to me.

I sat down on the bed and took deep breathes so that I wouldn't start crying.

"Bloody luck," I muttered. "Bloody luck is all I have." And then I laid down on the bed. It was a while before I finally fell asleep.

I woke up to someone shaking my shoulder.

"Emmy! Emmy!" a male voice said. "Wake up!"

"What?" I asked, drowsily sitting up. I was immediately greeted by the growling of my stomach, so strong that it almost knocked me over. I put a hand to my stomach and groaned.

"Are you okay?" the male voice now sounded panicked, and I allowed myself to try and identify the owner of the familiar voice. I focused on the face in front of me. It was Liam. I threw my arms around him, without eve thinking about it. "I missed you too," Liam said, sounding surprised. "But we're not alone." I quickly removed my arms from him, as if he'd shocked me. A low chuckle came from somewhere else in the room.

"That was a very passionate 'Hello'" Louis commented. I stuck my tongue at him, and was immediately rewarded by a strung pang in my stomach. I clutched my stomach again with a gasp.

"Emmy?" Harry said, worried.

"Are you okay?" Zayn asked, with equal concern.

"Yeah," I forced a smile. "I'm just super hungry. I haven't eaten all day."

"Silly girl," Niall said. "Why would you ever do that to yourself?" I giggled.

"In that case," Liam said, sweeping me off the bed, as I yelped in surprise, "you must let us take you to lunch."

"How could I resist," I murmured, grinning up at Liam's face. He paused, looking deep into my eyes. I opened my mouth, slightly, wanting to ask him what he was looking at, but he cut me off with his lips. His lips were soft on mine, first gently brushing my own, then adding pressure, deepening the kiss.

"Augh!" Louis yelled. "It burns!" Liam pulled away and chuckled, the vibrations in his chest reverberating through my body.

"All I can say is finally!" Harry yelled.

"This calls for a celebratory lunch!"  Niall announced. The boys cheered and paraded to the door.

"Liam," I whispered. He looked down at me, surprised.

"I'm sorry!" Liam said. "Did you not want to? I thought that-"

"No! Not that!" I interrupted him. "I really liked that," I added with a grin. Liam grinned back at me, his eyes looking relieved. "I wanted to tell you that I can walk."

"Of course," Liam said, clearly flabbergasted, letting me down on the ground. I rolled myself up on my toes whilst pulling down the front of his shirt so that I could reach him. I planted a kiss on his lips and  I felt him grin against my lips. Suddenly, someone cleared their throat, clearly sounding irritated. I sprang away from Liam, surprised. Josh was standing looking at me like he was staring at a stranger.

"Josh," I started. But what could I say? It;s not like I could change anything that had just happened.

"Don't talk to me," Josh said darkly, before turning around and walking away.
