11. The Truth Comes Out

ROSE’S POV

Everything was still dark but I could hear Shannon and Harry talking.

“So you just found her there?” Shannon asked him.

“Yeah, but she called me first,” Harry sounded tired.

I could hear Griffen’s sniffles. Of course. She was overreacting and worrying about something that wasn’t even a big deal. All I did was bash my arm. Slowly I opened my eyes and looked around me. Griffen was sitting in a chair with her head in her hands. Shannon was sitting next to her texting and Harry was sitting on the arm of Shannon’s chair looking into space. Griffen looked up and made eye contact with me.

“ROSE!” She ran to my side and gave me a hug. I couldn’t hug back because my arm and side were in this weird cast. I didn’t really feel like saying anything. Harry kind of looked at me but only smiled and shook his head. Shannon stood up.

“How are you feeling?” She asked me.

“Fine,” I was distracted by Harry standing right outside the door to my room talking to a doctor. The doctor and Harry came in.

“You should be fine to go home now that you’re awake, but just be careful with everything you do. You broke a couple bones in your arm so we did have to do surgery, and you also broke a rib. I gave your friend here your pills that you should take every morning for two weeks for the pain,” he motioned to Harry, “you should be glad that this guy found you when he did or else you could have suffered from major blood loss.”

The doctor and Shannon helped guide me out of bed, being careful not to touch anything on my left side. There was a terrible pain all throughout my arm and my stomach when I stood up, I just wanted to lay back down. The doctor left the room and Shannon and Griffen called Liam to pick them up. Apparently they were in a movie when I called so their phones were off. Ava and Niall stayed at the boy’s flat with Liam and Zayn. Louis was on vacation with his girlfriend, Eleanor. Harry lead me to his car and helped me into the passenger’s seat. It was kind of awkward, he hadn’t said one word to me yet since I woke up. He must’ve still been angry about what I said about not wanting to see him anymore.

He started the car and as we were driving down a street with tons of traffic I decided to break the silence.

“Why won’t you talk to me, Harry?” I went right out and said it. It was bothering me.

“Are you really asking me that?” He kept his eyes straight on the road.

“You know what, I’m really sorry. What I said this morning-it was something I had to do. I didn’t want to.”

“Well you still said it,” Harry replied. The cars in front of us were moving slowly. He looked pissed, like he didn’t want to be stuck with me through all this traffic.

“There’s more to me than you know, Harry,” I managed to say. He finally made eye contact with me but then turned back to look in front of him. He shook his head in disapproval.

“You lead me on just to drop me, I obviously liked you and you just used me. There’s no excuse for that,” as he said this, the cars finally started to move.

“Harry! I liked you too! Well, actually, I still like you! There’s just stuff I can’t tell you!”

“Unless you can tell me what that stuff is, you might as well be lying,” I hated seeing Harry mad like this. I decided to just tell him what was going on. If I didn’t-he would just be mad at me forever and that was not the ideal situation.

“Well first of all, my life is hell. My dad is never home and my stepmom and sister treat me like absolute crap. Second of all, the only time I’m allowed to actually go out is when I go to work, which is why a relationship definitely cannot happen. If Cheryl or my stepsister EVER found out about you, they’d make both of our lives torture. And to top it all off, I’m pretty fucking sure that my stepmom is the one that killed my real mom! Is that enough of a reason for you Harry? Are you happy now?!” Tears started to stream down my face as I admitted all of this.

“I-I’m sorry. I didn’t know,” Harry stopped his car where he did after our date, across the street from my house. I just looked down at my fingers and didn’t say anything.

“Does my dad know? Like, about what happened today?” I asked him quietly, changing the subject.

“Shannon called him. He came to the hospital for a little bit but then he got called back to work. I’m sure your stepmom knows now, too,” when Harry said this my heart stopped. If Cheryl knew about the accident, then she knew about Harry. Harry must’ve seen the fear in my eyes because he quickly added, “I told your dad that I didn’t know you. That I found you on the driveway while I was walking by,” I nodded as if to say thank you, and then started to slowly get out of the car.

“Bye,” was all I could think of saying.

                “Hey, Rose?”

                “Yeah?”

“Will you at least keep in touch, text me or something?” He looked up at me with hope in his eyes.

“Yeah, sure,” I made my way across the street. I knew that Harry was still parked behind me, waiting to see if I got into my house safely. Lucky for me, there was nobody home so I didn’t have to face Cheryl. Being the horrid person she is, she probably would’ve yelled at me. I hated her more than ever now, because of the feeling that she wanted killed my mom that kept bothering me.
