2. Friday Night

When Julia got home, she ripped the speakers out of the wall so my music wouldn't play anymore. I didn't say a word to her because then she would tell Cheryl, and that wouldn't turn out well. I knew that after she showered and put on way too much makeup, she would be gone for the rest of the night. That's how it was every Friday. Cheryl forbid me from going out on Friday nights. Julia told her to, and she listened to everything Julia said. Julia was embarrassed of being seen with me in public or at a party. At the "usual time", 10:00, when Cheryl and my dad were sleeping, I slowly opened my window and looked for Griffen, Ava, and Shannon. Like always, they were sitting outside, waiting for me.

"Hey!" I whispered so they would notice that I'm ready. They didn't say anything, scared that they would wake Cheryl up. Over the summer, Cheryl caught me sneaking out and I didn't see the light of day for a whole two weeks. I threw my purse down to Ava and she caught it, and then I shut the window slowly. The worst part of sneaking out came next, squeezing down the laundry chute in my room.

I slid the door open and looked down. Since Cheryl didn't make me do the laundry today, the pile of clothes I prepared was still sitting down in the laundry room. In my head, I counted to three and jumped down, plopping on the mound of dirty clothes. It hurt a little, but I had been injured worse doing this. The reason I couldn't just slip out the front door quietly is because we had an alarm system that beeped when the door opened. I looked around the musty laundry room for my exit. I lay my eyes on the small window. Since the laundry room was in the basement, there was a window leading out to the well. I cranked the musty window open and a rush of cold air hit me in the face. Shannon was ready by it, and she pulled the gate up that covered the top of the well. She grabbed my wrists and pulled me out of the laundry room, then Griffen covered it back up so nobody would know we took this way out.

It was complicated to sneak out without getting noticed by Cheryl, but we figured out this way two years ago and had been using it every Friday since.

"Where are we going tonight?" I asked, wiping my hands.

"Josh is having a party tonight. We're just gonna go there," Shannon answered. She was always up to date on the boy's parties. She loved them.

We made our way to Griffen's car. She parked down the street, just like she always did. I was really jealous of my friends. They were all so pretty. Shannon had long, red hair and blue eyes. Griffen had straight brown hair, and Ava was tan with dark hair. I was just kind of boring, with dark blonde hair and blue/green eyes, but whatever.

We pulled up at Josh's house. Even from the car we could hear how loud the music was. People were scattered on the front lawn, drinking and laughing. We weaved through them and made our way to the front door, letting ourselves in. I could already tell that this was going to be an annoying party to be at. The room smelled like sweat and there were so many people, I couldn't walk. I just planned on staying by my friend's sides. I noticed some boys in the corner. I could tell they didn't go to our school, I'd never seen them before. Shannon noticed them too, and being the boy crazy girl she was, grabbed our arms and lead us over. Even though I wasn't really in the mood to flirt, I followed.

I stopped quickly and yanked the other girls back. Julia was here. She was talking to the curly-haired boy that we were all going to meet. Ava, Griffen, and Shannon noticed too. We froze. If Julia saw me, we'd all be screwed.
