6. First Date

 GRIFFEN'S POV

"Rose, we're giving you a makeover!" Ava said, clapping her hands together.

"Why?" Rose just looked confused.

"Because it's fun!" I answered. Ava told us before we went into Rose's house what her plan was. We were going to tell Cheryl that Rose had to pick up an extra shift tonight at work, so she had a reason to go out. Ava already told the boys to tell Harry that Rose would be able to go on the date, and that she'd meet him at the restaurant around 6:30. Now, we were going to give her a makeover so we could get her ready for the date without her even knowing about it.

“Um..okay…. sure!” Rose decided and we took her to her bathroom. We dug out all her makeup and her curling iron from under her sink and got to work. I put on gold eye shadow and did her eyeliner and mascara. Ava and Shannon were busy as they curled every inch of her hair. When we were done, she looked amazing. She rarely ever put her blonde hair in curls, and she should more often. I have to say I did a really good job on her makeup. I checked my watch and realized that it was almost dinner time, and that Cheryl and Julia could be home soon. The girls and I had to leave and we had to tell Rose about her date!

“Rose…can I see your phone?” I asked her. Both of the girls knew what I was going to do, so they just watched as I pulled up Cheryl’s contact and texted her.

i have to pick up an extra shift at work tonight. ill be home as soon as i can.

“What are you doing!” Rose flipped and ripped the phone out of my hands. Ava smiled at her.

“Harry’s coming to pick you up in about 15 minutes. You’re welcome,” Ava announced.

ROSE’S POV

It was too late to argue with my friends. They knew that I couldn’t go out with Harry but they just didn’t understand. They set up this date anyway and I couldn’t just stand him up. I already upset him enough. Shannon laid out a pair of black jeans out for me. We decided on a button down jean shirt, and underneath I put a light pink tank top. I also pulled out a pair of heels from the back of my closet that I hadn’t worn in forever. I never had a reason to.

When I was completely ready and sure I looked good enough, we all piled into Griffen’s car and pulled up to the restaurant. It was a casual place, but not too casual. They had prepared me perfectly.

“Thank you so much guys,” I said before getting out of the car.

“No problem! Good luck,” Shannon answered and I smiled at them as I walked in. Harry was waiting right by the front of the restaurant, and his eyes widened when he saw me.

“Hi,” I said awkwardly, walking up to him. He just smiled, wrapped his arm around my waist and led me to our table. He looked really hot in a black v neck and jeans. We both ordered and talked. There was never quiet moments in our conversation. He made me laugh and I guess I made him laugh, too. I really liked him but I didn’t know if we could go anywhere…like if we ever became a couple. Because of Julia and Cheryl. It would never work out. When we were finished eating, he looked up at me and said something that took me by surprise.

“Rose…you’re really beautiful. If I could choose any girl to go out with tonight, it wouldn’t be anyone but you,” he smiled at me and I couldn’t help but blush. What was I supposed to say?

“Thanks,” was all I could manage. But inside, I was bursting with happiness. As the night progressed, the butterflies in my stomach just got bigger. A guy had never really called me beautiful before.

HARRY’S POV

“Don’t pull up in front of my house! Park down the street,” she told me when I went to drop her off.

            “Why?” I was so confused.

“Just don’t. Seriously. Don’t,” she seemed really serious and scared now, so I stopped the car and pulled over.

“What’s going on?” I asked her. She looked up at me. My heart melted. Every time we made eye contact I just wanted to hold her in my arms and never let go. But I don’t think she felt the same way.

“Nothing,” she answered quietly. I took a chance and reached over to her hand. I held it. She didn’t pull away, so that was a good sign.

“Rose, you know you can tell me what’s going on,” he said.

She took a deep breath, like she didn’t want to say anything but she knew she had to get it over with. “I told my stepmom that I was at work, ok? And if she finds out I wasn’t, she’ll kill me,” she said.

I could see pain in her eyes, like she didn’t want to talk about it. Something more was up, but I didn’t feel like right now was the right time to ask what was bothering her. Before I knew it, I was leaning in to kiss her. She flinched a little, but I didn’t stop. Then, she was leaning in too and I pressed my lips to hers. I had been with so many girls before, but this kiss felt different than any other.

“I have to go,” she said quickly, starting to get out of the car.

“Wait! Your purse! I have it!” I reached into the back seat and grabbed her black purse. I handed it to her and she quickly said thanks, closed the door, and walked across the street to her house. I watched her as she walked, making sure she got inside safely. My lips were still burning from her touch, and I drove away feeling like I was floating.

ROSE’S POV

All I could think about as I lay in bed was Harry. I mean, I liked him a lot but I didn’t know what to do. It wouldn’t be a strong relationship if I was always sneaking out to see him. How could this possibly work out?
