Not Your Typical Cinderella

(One Direction not famous)

When Rose was only 7, her mom passed away. Her dad got remarried to Cheryl three years later. Rose feels it in her heart that Cheryl only loves her dad for his money. She treats her stepdaughter Rose terribly and favors her own daughter, Julia much more. When something tragic happens to her dad on her 17th birthday, Rose is desperate to prove, along with her friends Shannon, Ava, and Griffen, that it was all Cheryl's fault. Little does she know that along the way, she will meet new people, fall in love, and get her heart broken.

4. Can I Have Your Number?

ROSE'S POV

The next morning, I had to completely drag myself out of bed to get ready for work. I knew I didn't need the money, but I took up a job anyway because it was the only way I would be allowed out of the house. I regretted having a drink last night, because my Saturday morning shift was 9-12. Shannon is the one who hooked me up with this job at Starbucks, so fortunately we had the same shifts. My dad worked all day every day, so Cheryl pretty much controlled me during the day, not letting me go out and making me clean. That's why I told her that my shift was from 9-2, so I had two free hours on my Saturday to do whatever I wanted. Then, I would sneak out at night.

To my delight, Julia didn't come home last night, so I didn't have to worry about the consequences of being caught just yet. Shannon pulled in my driveway at 8:45, and when I climbed in the car I could already tell she was taking this morning worse than me. She had way more to drink last night, and that's why she fell so hard for that Liam guy. We got to work, put on our aprons. I worked the cash register and Shannon and the two other girls working that morning helped make coffee.

I woke up with a pounding headache. I crashed on the couch in our flat. I looked around me and saw my flatmates. Niall on the other couch, Zayn and Liam on the floor, so Louis was probably the only one who made it to his room last night. I checked my phone. The time said 9:35. The earliest I had woken up in a very long time. When I sat up, I got dizzy, but then it passed. Soon, Liam opened his eyes and rubbed his back, hurting from sleeping on the ground. I went upstairs to shower and get dressed. When I came back down, Liam was already dressed and in the kitchen, reading out of one of his college text books. He was always the one with the best grades.

"Well you had a fun night last night Liam, didn't you?" I asked him.

He just laughed and replied, "wanna go get some coffee or something? I can't wake up," I said sure and tossed him his keys from the counter.

"Who's purse is that?" Liam asked, pointing at the black purse that was thrown on the counter next to the car keys.

"The girl I met last night's. When her friends freaked out and made her leave, she dropped it. But I didn't get her number," I sighed. Liam just nodded and closed his book.

We opened the front door quietly, careful not to wake the other guys and we were off to Starbucks.

By 9:45, I was already bored. Ringing up orders was not the most exciting Saturday activity. Tons of people came to Starbucks on these mornings, though, so my hands were sore from punching in prices and numbers.

I swear, my face turned white when I saw him walk in. It was Liam. And Harry. I was planning on not seeing Harry again, if Julia found out I was into a guy, she would sabotage both of us. My hands started shaking. I didn't know if I should hide or play it cool. When Shannon came close to me, I pinched her, and she looked at the end of the line. Her eyes widened when she saw Liam. I could tell what was going through her head. Hide, or play it cool...

When I realized that Rose was working at Starbucks, I figured it was my lucky day. She looked so beautiful, even with that ugly Starbucks uniform and hat. I nudged Liam, and when he saw Shannon he instantly smiled. I was just excited that I was finally going to get Rose's number. When I got up to the register, I couldn't stop beaming.

"Well, you look familiar," I said, joking.

"Yeah..." she answered. Damn! She didn't seem interested at all. I ordered and then I took my chance.

"Can I have your number?" Please say yes..please say yes..

"Um..sorry...I don't think I can give it to you.." Now she was blushing. What was going on? Girls didn't usually reject me like this.

"Why?" I wanted to know. She didn't answer, and just looked down at her fingers, like there was something she wanted to say but she knew she couldn't. I got the hint and moved away, to grab my drink. Shannon made both of our drinks, and Liam was really happy with his. There were hearts all over it, where she was supposed to write the drink name. When I looked on the side of my cup, I smiled. Shannon wrote Rose's number for me. Under it, in loopy, rushed cursive she wrote "she'll thank me later. dont worry."
