16. Save Me

I sat in the passenger seat as Niall drove down the highway as fast as the car would take us. He held my hand the whole way, being once again the amazing boyfriend whom I loved so much. When we got to the hospital, Harry was waiting in the lobby, his head in his hands. "Harry!" I said. "Where is she?!" he pointed me down the hallway, and I darted. "Excuse me, miss!" the nurse called after me. "Miss!" I kept running until I found the room and opened up the door. I saw here there, and for a moment, I shut down. Seeing my best friend there, hooked up to a bunch wires keeping her alive, I just lost it. I couldn't remember my name, or why I was there, all I knew was all that mattered. And that was that Madeleine was here, dying, and I had to save her. A tight grip wrapped around me. "No! No! No!" I heard my voice scream. Nurses dragged me out and down the hallway, where they let me go, and I collapsed into Niall, a messy heap of tears and worry. "She's going to be fine," he said, trying to calm me down. "But what if she's not?" I said. "Don't say that!" Harry said, suddenly sitting up strait. "But Harry-" "DON'T TALK ABOUT HER LIKE THAT!" he shouted at me. I felt so tiny and weak. Then I felt incredibly angry. "What are you talking about?" I screamed back. "She's my best friend! Mine! Not yours! You haven't known her since you were four years old, have you?! And even if you had, you wouldn't ever love her half as much as I love her! She's my sister for God's sake, and you've barely been together for a week or two! You don't understand, and you never will." My voice broke, and I lost it again. I didn't know where to run to. Who to run to. I needed someone who understood. And honestly, nobody did but Madeleine. I stood there for a moment, crying like a fool. "Nobody understands," I whispered. More tears hit the floor, and I just let myself fall. I closed my eyes and ran out of the room. I found myself in the middle of the street at four in the morning, the soft glow of a red light over my head, stopping cars that weren't there. I closed my eyes and embraced the freezing cold air that prickled my warm skin. Then I saw bright lights, and I felt concrete.

I opened my eyes, expecting to be dead, but no. I was on someone. A guy. "Are you alright?" he said. I got up. "Um, yeah," I said, looking around. "Did you...?" "Save you from being hit by a truck? Yes." He finished. I couldn't see who it was. "I'm Evan," he said. "Um, I'm Abby. Thanks. So much. I- I think you saved my life. So, thanks, again," "Hey, no problem. I like saving beautiful girls." I bit my lip and blushed. "Do you need a ride?" he asked. "Abby? Abby, is that you?" Niall called out. "I guess not," I said. He laughed. "Call me, okay?" he said. He walked away. "Abby what are you doing here?" Niall said, embracing me. "I don't know," I said, honestly. All I knew was that Evan saved my life. And I couldn't stop thinking about him.
