1. Chapter One

It's a drizzly cold rainy afternoon in October, my shoes are soaked, my hairs a mess, my pencil case has broken and to top it all off the hood off my coat was ripped off today at playtime. Fair enough it was an accident and I suppose Miss Bixton was right that these things happen when your playing 'tag' Maybe I did overreact a little bit. Crying like a two year old probably wasn't the best idea and my hood does just button back on, but a load of good it's going to do me in this rain sitting in Miss Bixtons drawer. It just hasn't been my week, on Monday we had a spelling test of the ten words we had to learn over the weekend. I failed terribly, I only got three out of ten, it was the lowest in my class. I struggled all weekend with those words, I didn't even know what half of them meant. What does Chronological mean again? Then on Tuesday I was doing painting and Joseph spilt blue paint all over my painting, I know he didn't meant to but he completely ruined my picture of a house with a cat looking out of the window. Wednesday I fell over and cut my knee, which is still a bit sore but I have a cool disney plaster on it now. Then yesterday my juice from my packed lunch leaked and spilt all over my lunchbox, my cheese sandwiches were disgusting and soggy and tasted like juice. It was just horrible. Now today I've gone and torn my coat and to top it all off Mum is nearly twenty minutes late to pick me up.

"Don't worry Celeste, mummy will be here soon" Miss Bixton says to me in her caring way.
That's my teacher, she's really nice. She's only been my teacher for a few weeks since we came back to school after the summer holidays.
"Did you remember your picture?" she asks
"Yes miss it's in my folder"
We've just got really nice new folders at school. We used to have boring green cardboard ones but now we have plastic ones with pieces of elastic that slip over the side. Mines pink with blue elastic, Kelly has a white one with red elastic and the boys chose blue or black ones.
I'm really pleased with my picture I drew today, every Friday afternoon after lunch we have free time where we can play with the polygon, read books or do anything really. I always do drawings with Kelly. She's my best friend and we pretty much do everything together. I started at this school two years later then the other children, I started in Year 2 and Kelly was the girl i sat next to, we really enjoyed playing and working together and now our mums are really good friends too. Kelly loves to draw just like me. We drew cats and horses today. I love cats ever since I was little i was always obsessed with them. My bedroom is decorated in Hello Kitty and all of my stuff has cats on. Last year when I turned Nine I had a wonderful birthday party. I had a hello kitty cake with pink candles, a bouncy castle that was a big orange tabby cat, and everyone got a kitty in my pocket toy in their party bags. Kelly loves horses and says when she grows up her Dad will buy her a pony.

At the end of the playground I see Mums little blue car pull up and see Mum rushing out, her blonde hair frizzy from the rain and her skirt is drenched. I wish I had blonde hair like Mums, mines red and sometimes the other children make fun of me.

"There you go Celeste there's mummy, Have a nice weekend" Miss Bixton says
"Thankyou Miss, See you on Monday"

I run quickly over to mums car, this is really strange mums always ontime this just isn't like her.
"Sorry Darling" mum says taking my bags and loading them into the car "Got held up at work, Did you have a good day?"
"Yeah we had fun today we did spelling, then assembly, then maths then this afternoon we had free time, I drew a picture" I explain to mum.
"Oh lovely, can't wait to see it" "What's the picture of sweety? Mum asks.
"It's of three cats jumping over a rainbow" I say proudly.
"Really, what a creative idea, I really don't know where you get your imagination from Celeste"

See I told you I'm obsessed with cats, When i was drawing this picture today I imagined the three cats were in a cat shelter looking for new homes and one day they see a rainbow and jump over it to a new happier life. For as long as I can remember I've loved cats. I remember once when I was a toddler being completely convinced there was a cat called Jack in my room. Mum used to say he was an imaginary friend, but there was more to it. He always seemed so real to me. I loved the idea of a special magical cat that only I could see. Then as I got older I started collecting cat play sets, little toy cats, soft toy cats basically anything with cats on. Whenever I walk past a cat I just have to stop and stroke them. Otherwise I feel like I'm ignoring them. I feel like if I walked straight past a cat without speaking to it or stroking it that it'd be upset. Maybe my imagination does work overtime.

As we pull into the driveway I notice a cat sitting on our wall, a white cat with orange tabby patches. It's just sitting there watching. It ls starring right at me, I walk towards it to stroke it but it runs away. I turn to walk back to the door and when I glance back there it is, right back on the wall.
"I wonder what it's thinking" I wonder to myself as I watch it. I mean cats must be thinking something aren't they?
