Too Close ~ (One Direction Not Famous)

Sophie and Niall have been best friends for years. But at the start of year 11, Sophie sees something different in him. Not only must Sophie cope with her own runaway feelings but she also has to try to keep up with the crazy lives of her other friends.

Will anything ever be simple?

11. Daylight

I began to stir, my eyes flickering until I finally mustered the energy to open them fully. I was curled up in bed, all cosy. Sunlight streamed through my window, highlighting the dancing dust motes in the air. I had a brief moment of panic where I thought I had slept through my alarm and I was just about to jump out of bed when I realised it was actually Saturday and there was no need for me to wear that gross uniform for another two days.

I glanced at the clock, 8:55. I was meeting Anna at the bus stop at 10:30 and Alice. Millie and Lucy in town at around 11:00. Seeing as I had an hour and a half before I needed to be anywhere, I decided to have a nice long shower.

Groggily, I made my way to the bathroom across the hall, rubbing my eyes as I went. A huge yawn escaped me as I felt around the wall for the light switch. Initially, the bright, artificial light blinded me but my eyes gradually grew accustomed ad eventually, I could see clearly. I threw my towel down at the door before undressing and climbing in.

The burning hot water hit me to tense up in shock until I was warmed through. I quickly shampooed my hair, the sweet aroma filling the cubicle. The bubbles surrounded my feet as I washed it out, slowly surrounding the plug hole. I massaged in some conditioner, washing that out too. I love the feeling of freshly conditioned hair, it was so soft.

Reluctantly, I turned the taps off and opened the door, shivering as I was hit by the blast of icy air. Wrapping my towel around myself, I made my way back to my room, properly awake now. I wrenched open my wardrobe doors to find something to wear. I quickly decided on a big woolly jumper over some patterned leggings and my military boots, it looked a bit chilly outside.

I clumsily dressed myself, my hair dripping onto my shoulders. Angrily, I tried to wring it out but it just carried on, dripping and dripping.  Giving up I grabbed my hair dryer and turned it on full blast, my scalp tingling at the sudden heat…

Half an hour or so later, me and Anna were at the bus stop and we were being completely sensible… Ok we may have been a little hyper but hey, we were teenage girls about to go shopping, what do you expect?

The bus came round the corner, me and Anna applauding as it pulled up. As you can probably imagine, people did look at us like we had escaped from a mental asylum but this just encouraged us.

The journey passed pretty uneventfully after mine and Anna’s tuneful rendition of “The Wheels on the Bus” attracted a lot of tutting and “Could you please be quiet?”. Eventually we took the hint and just sat there quietly, not looking at each other in case we started up again!

After what seemed like ages we were strolling towards Topshop, the chosen meeting place for us to meet the others. As we approached, we could see them all stood there, laughing, At least we weren’t the only mental ones.

“OI YOU LOT!” Anna yelled, half of the street turning round to look at us. We quickly looked left and right to make sure we weren’t going to get hit by a bus or something before sprinting across the road and jumping on them. By this point we were all laughing hysterically, even though noting was particularly funny. Between giggles I managed to say “Topshop first?”. Everyone nodded in response so we all trooped in. I started sorting through the first rack, not really sure what I was looking for when Millie nudged me in the ribs hard.

“OW! What was that f...?”  I trailed off when I saw why she had assaulted me! Three gorgeous guys had strolled in and were making their way upstairs. One of the reasons I loved Topshop: the attractive guys going to Topman above. “They were lush!” said Millie when the lads had disappeared. “I thought you had your eye on someone else!” I laughed. Millie’s face reddened and she looked at her feet. “Yeah like that’s ever going to happen” she muttered. I sighed “One day, hopefully sooner rather than later, Louis will realise that Hannah is a total cow and that you are much better in every way”. She looked up for a second, hopeful for a second before sadness filled her eyes and she looked away. “Look Soph, I appreciate you trying and everything but I don’t think me and Louis will ever be possible”. I opened my mouth to protest but she cut me off “Seriously. I need to try and get used to Louis being my friend and nothing more. I know you just want to make me feel better but I just need to try and forget about him for a while”. I nodded understandingly ad she shot me a grateful smile.

“SOOOOPPPHHHHH! Check this out” came Anna’s voice from behind me. I rolled my eyes jokingly before spinning around to see whatever Anna was so excited about! She had picked out the most vile dress in the whole shop, a vile sludge green number that was shredded at the bottom. She was holding it up to herself and dancing stupidly. “Thought I might wear this Friday night! I would deffo get all the guys” she said jokingly. We laughed and she carried on dancing. She clearly wasn’t paying attention though as she soon danced straight into…

“Harry!!” said Anna, twisting and falling straight into him. Luckily he managed to catch her before she hit the floor. “Hi…” Anna mumbled as she stood up and tried to maintain some dignity. She was bright red. “You need to be more careful!” he joked, winking at her. She looked up at him and blushed even deeper. By now, me, Millie, Alice and Lucy were all eyeing each other knowingly and cracking up. Bless her!

“Forgot you lot were gonna be in town today. Might not have come if I had known!” joked a familiar voice. “George!” I said, surprised to see him stood next to Harry. “Heya” he said with a little wave, is eyes fixed on me. I coloured slightly under his gaze, though not as bad as Anna!

George had stayed true to his word and had texted me last night. We didn’t really talk about anything in particular, mainly just banter but i had still been up until about midnight texting. “Anyways me and Haz should head upstairs before we catch any of your girl germs. See ya round!” said George, his eyes still not leaving me. “What? Oh…. Yeah” said Harry who had been deep in his own conversation with Anna. “See ya” he said to her reluctantly. Turning to leave. Anna waved timidly.

After the guys were safely out of ear shot, we all turned to Anna and ooohed in her face. “Shut up!” she said, shoving Alice and, for the billionth time, blushing. “He is so into you!” squealed Millie. “Do you think so?” she said, her face lighting up. “Well DUH” said Lucy, causing us all to laugh again.  “Come on” I said. “Let’s keep looking”.
