5. A Kiss Solves Everything?

I woke up to the light shining through the trees. It was early in the morning and dew was sprayed over the prickly grass that surrounded me. I slowly stood up, rubbing my cold arms. My clothes were damp and stuck to my skin. I stood up with difficulty, my legs still asleep.

As I walked over to the cabin, I relived what had happened the day before. How the happiness of going to escape filled me with hope turned into myself grieving over seeing my true love with somebody else. I tried to convince myself that I shouldn't make a big deal out of it, most of the time people who you fall for don't choose to be with you. But, I just couldn't get over it. What did he find so special about her? Why did he kiss her, instead of me?

I gathered my thoughts together and composed myself for before I'd go inside, thinking of what to say to Grace. The sun was shinning on the little wooden hut, making it look quite beautiful. A robin sitting on the roof, hopping about. Robins reminded me of home. When my grandfather had passed away, there were a whole bunch of robins outside the church. As though they'd known him and wanted to pay their respects. Maybe it was because my grandpa had a fascination for birds and had bird feeders and nests in his trees.

A tear started to drop from my eye, so I decided to go in the house. I couldn't start thinking about those things, not now. I rubbed my eyes and jerked the door open slowly.

I crept towards the stove that was still going and put my hands infront of it to warm my fingers. My stiff fingers losing up. I took off my tights and my skirt on the table for them to dry. My legs now heating up, my fingers now cleaning my toe nails. I leaned my back on the table and stared at the fire in the stove.

"Charlie." A voice behind me said.

I turned my head to see who it was. To  my surprise, it was Nic.

"Don't bother talking to me." I said in a irritated voice.

He got off the floor, taking Amy's hand off his chest. He sat next to me and put his hand on my arm.

"Don't touch me either."

Nic sighed. I didn't really care what he had to say anymore, I was fed up with waiting for him and loving him.

"Grace told me about the hole in the fence," said Nic. "Lucky you found it. At least now we can all escape, all we need to know is how. I bet you've got it all figured out, being such a clever woman."

A long silence took over after his last words.

"Look, Charlie. You can't be mad at me forever."

He looked at me, as though I would answer. He grasped my chin and made me look at him. He cupped my face and kissed me.

His soft lips touching mine. His hands so smooth, caressing my cheeks. Both of our eyes closed. My mind thinking a thousand thoughts. My heart thumping loud. He then took his mouth away from mine. My eyes still closed, trying to understand what just happened.

I slapped him and walked over to the door. The sound of the slap waking Grace and Amy up.
