How We Met and Other Secrets

16-year-old Claire was always a nobody, until a world-famous boy band moves into her school, and it turns out that all five perfect boys have feelings for her! Which one does Claire pick, without hurting the others? Can she find true love with One Direction?

5. Lou

His name was Louis Tomlinson, a bold kid from England. It seemed like all of a sudden a lot of European boys were coming to our high school. Anyway, he was the talk of our gym class. He was hot, and from a certain angle he almost looked like Leonardo DiCaprio. When he strutted by, the girls giggled hysterically. I sat in the corner of the gym and read a book. Surprisingly, I had decided to read "To Kill a Mockingbird" for the third time after I had seen the kid in study hall reading it. Suddenly I heard a voice emerge from above me.
"Hellooo," it said in a singsong voice. I looked up, and staring down at me was Louis himself. He stood confidently with his hands on his hips and then promptly sat next to me on the cold gym floor. I scooted over slightly.
"I think we'll be good friends," he said in a light british accent.
I didn't know what to say. Louis wanted to be friends with me? I simply glanced up and then returned to my book.
"What, so now you're going to get all shy on me?" he teased. "I already know."
This caught my attention. What did he know?
"What do you know?" I asked slowly, testing him.
"I know you kissed Zayn, babe." he said with a small smile.
"How do you know Zayn?" I asked, and immediately I felt stupid.
"Claire! Do you live under a rock?" he asked incredulously. "Louis, Harry, Niall, Liam, Zayn. One Direction. Ring any bells?"
Not exactly. I don't listen to much music. But I guess these boys did have some charisma.
"Oh," I said, trying to sound like I knew. "Yeah,"
"Come on," he said, standing up. "Let's ditch these bitches."
I took his hand and got up, and he led me past the sleeping gym teacher and a class of gawking girls out the exit and into the soccer field.
"So, tell me. How's Zayn?"
"I don't...I don't like him!" I stuttered.
"Oh, sure, darling," he smirked.
Right then, a car pulled up to the edge of the field. Louis jogged over and the driver rolled down the window. A brown-haired boy with soft features sat with one hand on the wheel.
"Hey Lou," the kid said, and then peered over at me. "Who's your lady friend?"
"This is Claire." Lou said and I waved shyly. The kid smiled and introduced himself as Liam. I thought he was adorable and so attractive, but I tried not to show it.
"What are you two doing out here?" he asked.
"Ditching class." said Louis, shrugging nonchalantly.
"Lou! You have to stop doing that! And for God's sake don't drag this pretty girl out with you!" Liam scolded. I blushed.
Liam had been out for lunch, as he told Lou, and he had had a reason to be out of school. He parked his car and then joined us in walking back to the building.
My next class was Financial Literacy, possibly the most pointless use of 45 minutes ever. I came in and scanned the room for an empty seat. Louis had gotten me back a little late, and most of the seats were filled up except for one. Next to Niall. Niall Horan. Who ditched me during study hall and who I already didn't like.
I sighed a little and deciding I had no choice, wandered to the back of the room where the empty seat was. Niall looked up and gave no sign of recognition. I dropped my bag and sat. He continued to stare at me.
"What?" I finally said with a disgusted look on my face.
"Nothing." He said as he looked down, but he was hiding a grin.
