10. Same Mistakes

The sound of my own footsteps on the hardwood floors echoed through the flat. I thought that I might be able to sneak in unnoticed, but I had misunderstood the amount of alcohol that I had drunk and my head was dancing wildly. Everyone should be asleep by now, if I haven’t woken them up already. As the stairway creaked beneath my feet and I held onto the banister for dear life in case I fell, a dark figure loomed over me from the top of the stairs.

“Whutchuuu doin’ up so late?” My own slurred voice rang through my ears.

“Making sure you don’t kill yourself by falling down the stairs.” The familiar sound of their voice called down to me. I managed to hobble up the rest of the stairs and look down at the unwavering eyes that stared back.

“I made a mistake Chrissy...” I began, but she cut me off.

“Clearly.” She didn’t know what I was talking about... well; I guess I didn’t really know what I was talking about either. Before I could continue, I felt my body drifting farther away. Christina’s instant reaction was to reach for me and she grabbed my jacket sleeve, yanking me back against eh hallway wall. “What the hell are you doing?!”

“What...”

“You were about to fall down the stairs!”

“Oops,” I let out a hiccup and a nauseated giggle. A loud sigh came from her as she got up from the carpet next to me. She pulled me back up and guided me back to my own room where I collapsed on the bed.

“You can’t go get drunk Harry... there was no reason too. You should know the dangers!” She said confrontationally next to the bed. I just stared up at her... she had such pretty eyes, and her hair was beautiful, even if she had been sleeping on it for many hours already. “Harry! Are you even listening?” She whisper-shouted at me, trying not to wake the other boys.”

“I made a mistake.” Chris let out a huff.

“No doubt... at least you know that what you did was wrong.”

“No no Chris....” She shook her head and turned around. “Wait!” I reached out and clutched her hand gently. “Don’t leave yet.” Her face turned back to me, with expressions of anger and pity.

“Fine,” Chrissy said bluntly while sitting cross legged near the end of my bed.

“Why are you so far away?” I asked hazily.

“Because we aren’t together anymore. I can’t just pretend our breakup never happened.”

“So we are broken up?” I asked, scared of what the answer would be.

“By the sounds of it... you dumped me. But now you know the truth about my brother so I don’t know where we stand. But you clearly need to get a grip on yourself and not going and getting drunk.” She was right I suppose... It was all my fault.

“I made a mistake.”

“We play all these same old games Harry. And I think that we are both waiting for the end to change. But we’re assuming that we’re going to change, but we both keep making mistakes anyways...” she sighed.

“I kissed another girl, got drunk, and worse of all- I spied on you.” My mouth rambled on, why was I admitting that! My mind was racing and I had no idea as to what it was that I was admitting. Chris’ eyes widened slightly.

“What?”

“I spied on you... that’s why I broke up with you because I saw you with your brother and I thought that you were together. Then tonight I got drunk, and kissed another girl. It meant nothing though; I couldn’t stop thinking about you the whole time.” I looked across the dimly lit room at her face, where several tears were escaping her delicate eyes. “It was all my fault.”

“No Harry! It was my fault!” She burst out. Why did she think that having a conversation with me while I was drunk was a good idea? Luckily the hangover was coming on though and my brain was easing out of the tension of alcohol. “I’m the one who never told you who Sam was... it was all my fault,” she repeated. “If I had just explained to you who he was in the first place, none of this would have happened!” Tears poured down her cheeks.

“It was never your fault Chris...” My actions were becoming more sensible as the alcohol was quickly disappearing from my system.

“But it was Harry... I couldn’t mph-” I cut her off by leaning over on the bed and pressing my lips to hers. Now I was completely sober. Our lips moved in perfect sync and the same sparks flew that once had a few weeks ago. I held her neck carefully with my left hand as she kissed back and clutched my face in her hands. I only had to break away to breath and I pressed my forehead to hers, staring into her gorgeous eyes.

“It wasn’t your fault.”
