17. Niall and Izzy- Street Songs

The soft sound of music fluttered across the busy streets. I listened intently, but couldn’t fin where the beautiful tune was coming from. My eyes wandered across the crowd and against the buildings. It was getting louder, so I must be getting closer. An angelic voice flooded my ears and I couldn’t help but follow it. The guitar strums were perfectly in rhythm and the air was filled with the wonderful noise. My pace picked up in eagerness to find the musical genius behind that sound. A crowd of people were huddled in a circle against the corner of one of the business buildings. I pushed my way through eagerly to stumble in the open space. There was a metre or two between me and the gorgeous blonde boy that sat on the ground.

His hand strummed lightly on the guitar, his legs were crossed, his hair was messy but in an attractive way, while his lips moved in perfect sync, and his eyes rested on me. My breath caught in my throat and I felt myself blushing. I must have looked half crazy barging through the people only to catch myself from falling on his case that was open. For the amount of people around, there wasn’t much money in the guitar case. His warm eyes blinked politely at me before returning down to his fingers that plucked carefully at the strings. I watched him for a while in awe. Everything about him seemed perfect. My phone rung and I picked it up embarrassed for disturbing his beautiful song with my annoying ringtone.

“Izzy, what’s up?” I heard my best friend say cheerfully into the line. “Is that music in the background?”

“Uh hey Izzy, yeah I can’t really talk right now. Sorry got to go! I’ll call you back,” I said before hanging up. The time passed as each song filled the air. I must be the only one here now who’s been there for this long. Everyone else that had been there when I first arrived had disappeared. I realized that the day was ending and I really needed to get home. I rummaged through my purse and pulled out a very decent amount of money that I knew he needed more than I did. I placed it in the case, his eyes grew wide and looked intensely at me as if he was surprised. I gave him a small smile and a wave before disappearing back down the street, his beautiful song still in my mind.

-1 week later-

I was on my way back from work again after a long day. My boss was getting on my nerves lately, but It was nothing that I could really do anything about. The sky was almost dark since I had had to stay so late today. I walked around the street corner to see the same blonde boy that I had seen last week. He was standing with his guitar, packing up for the night as it seemed. I desperately wished taht he would be playing something though.

“Oh sir! Excuse me!” I ran up to him and smiled gently, my cheeks getting hot. His face turned to meet mine.

“Oh hello miss. I remember you... you’re the one who listened to me for over and hour and a half last week.” I blushed profusely.

“Uh, yeah that was me. You’re a really amazing performer.” He ran his fingers through his blonde hair.

“Well thank you.”

“Were you leaving?”

“I was about to, yeah. Not like I have anywhere to go though.” I looked at him strangely.

“What do you mean?”

“I have to stay at my aunt’s house.”

“Well that doesn’t sound too bad...”

“It is when the place always smells like smoke, there’s only one bed, and there are always drunk men passed out on the floor.”

“Oh... I’m sorry.” I said looking at my shoes embarrassed.

“It’s not your fault.” I stayed quiet for a minute before perking up with an idea.

“Hey! Why don’t I take you for a coffee?” I said trying to be as friendly as possible. It was easy to tell that this man had had a hard life; the least I could do was buy him a drink.

“You... you’d do that for me?” His eyes seemed to sparkle as they gazed at mine.

“Absolutely. There’s a cafe down the street I go to sometimes. Come on, you can bring your guitar.” A smile erupted on his face as he picked up his stuff hurriedly and hustled down the sidewalk next to me.

“My name is Izzy by the way.”

“Niall.”

“It’s nice to meet you.” We stepped into the warm store front and walked up to the cashier. “2 coffee’s please.” I ordered, pulling out my wallet.

“It’s even better to meet you. I- uh, you gave me quite a generous gift last time I saw you.”

“It was the least I could do- really.” The lady behind the counter handed me the drinks and I quickly handed one of them to Niall.

“But why?”

“I think that you really have talent.” I left out the part at how mesmerized I was by everything about him. We sat down at a booth on the side of the restaurant. I could tell that Niall hadn’t had a coffee in a long time- he drank it hurriedly as if he couldn’t get enough.

“I really don’t know how to thank you.”

“You don’t have to. I loved listening to your voice so much, which was a gift all in itself.” I could see his cheeks redden a bit. “Niall... I don’t know anything about your life, or what you’ve gone through; but I know that it must be hard. If I was in your shoes, all that I’d want is someone to be my friend and care for me. I-I hope that everything serves well for you. I mean, you could become famous. You are an amazing singer, guitar player, plus I- uhh...” I blushed and looked away. Niall was staring at me with a smile on his face.

“What?”

“I just... thought you were really cute.” I could tell he was smiling brightly even though I was looking at the hem of my shirt in embarrassment.

“No one has ever cared for me so much; especially because you don’t even really know me. Thank you Izzy.” I smiled and looked back up at him. The space between us shortened as our lips met briefly over the table. I did feel sparks as his soft lips melded with mine. It was amazing honestly. I sat down in my seat again and let out a polite cough. Our cheeks both burned bright red. I watched his bright blue eyes light up and a smile was spread across his face.

“Well... how about playing a song for me?”
