18. Louis and Bethany- Amis en Amour

“Calm down! I will be there in a few minutes,” I called into the phone.

“Just hurry your butt up Beth! I can’t wait to get there.” I rolled my eyes at the impatient voice on the other end of the line. The bus shuttle came to a halt after we had hung up. I pulled my baggage out of the overhead racks and pulled them behind me towards the door. As soon as my shoe touched the airport parking lot a loud voice boomed in front of me.

“BETHANY!” I smiled and ran forward, wrapping my arms around, my best friend, Louis.

“You aren’t very patient...”

“How could I be? We are going to Paris!” I chuckled as Louis helped pull our bags across the airport lobby. It was going to be just the two of us on a fun-filled vacation. I hadn’t seen him lately because of his tour and we both missed each other. I mean, how could we not- Were best friends! As soon as Louis had gotten back home, he called me up and arranged this escape for us both to catch up on old times.

“Well it’s going to be so much fun, thank you so much for arranging this Lou-bear.” I saw his eyes light up at the mention of his nickname.

“Ha-ha, no problem,” he smirked back down at me.

It was a while before both Louis and I had gotten rid of our bags and were seated on the plane. It was going to be a long flight; hopefully I would be able to sleep. I adjusted myself in my seat and turned so that I was leaning on Louis' shoulder.

"Princess... wake up! We're here and they are going to kick us off the plane unless you get up... like now!" I heard the rushed whispers in my ear. I grumbled and blinked awake, a yawn escaping my mouth.

"We're here?"

"Yeah, for the last half hour."

"What?! Why didn't you wake me!?" I stood up, smacking my head on the baggage carrier above my seat. "Oww...." Louis stood up and held my head.

"How could I wake you? You looked so peaceful... are you alright?" I grunted again and nodded. We pulled our carry-ons out of the overhead storage and made our way off the plane as I followed closely behind Lou.

"Where are we staying again?" I asked finally as we left out the front door of the unfamiliar airport.

"You'll see. Now come on," He said rushing towards a van that he had rented and had someone drive here for him. It must be nice to be able to do anything you want.... I sighed.

It was a decent drive to our hotel. The countryside was breathtaking with all of its views and Louis was singing quietly while trying to concentrate on the road. Soon the city buildings stretched up around us and Lou pulled over to the side and parked.

"Don't worry, this isn't our hotel. I just wanted to show you something." My curiosity peaked.

"What? What is it?"

"It's a surprise silly!" He said tapping my nose playfully with his index finger. I let out a huff as he grabbed my hand and pulled me along the sidewalk. The many French restaurants were crowded with other tourists and the shops all looked really fancy. Too fancy for my taste perhaps. Before I knew where we were, Louis halted and looked up, still intertwined with my hand. I followed his gaze and stared in awe.

"The eiffle tower? Wow Lou... It's really great!" I said with a bright smile.

"Come on, we aren't done yet!" Why did I feel like Louis was dragging me around lately? I couldn't help but laugh- he must be excited, because I'm usually the one dragging him around. I stepped lightly into the elevator that I knew would take us to the top.

"You can't go to Paris and not see the Eiffle tower," Lou said matter-of-factly.

"Very true." He squeezed my hand reassuringly. We stepped out onto the wide platform that surrounded the tower. The sun was already setting? What? I checked my phone quickly; wow that was a fast day. Louis brought me closer to the edge.

"I don't know about this... we could fall off," I said taking a step back. Louis turned and gave me a look.

"Really Beth? Don't worry, I won't let anything happen to you." He pulled me closer and wrapped an arm around my shoulder to help calm me down. I wasn't scared of heights... just maybe falling off of one. Taking a relaxing sigh I curled up against him.

"I'm so glad that you're my friend Lou, I don't know what I would do without you." A smile spread across his face.

"I should be telling YOU that. You've always been there for me- even when I left."

"How could I not?"

"What do you mean?"

"I mean, how could I not be there for you. I love you Lou-bear!" I said and chuckled. He was my best-friend and always would be, there's no doubt about it.

"I love you too Beth. But..." he paused and looked out over the orange sky. The city was reflecting it's unnatural colour and captured the moment perfectly.

"But what?" I said not moving my eyes from the world below. Louis never finished his sentence. He pulled my chin up lightly to face him and before I could ask him what he was thinking, his lips were pressed lovingly to mine. It felt so right being in his arms. I knew we both felt sparks by the way he smiled through the kiss. When we finally broke apart, the grins on our faces couldn't hide our true feelings any more- we loved each other.
