23. Liam and Jasmine- Missing and Wishing

It had been 3 years.

Three whole years of not seeing my best friend.

Ever since he had moved to London after the X-factor, life had become so different for the both of us. We tried to talk occasionally, but with our crazy schedules it was near impossible.

Liam had become a super famous international pop star, whereas I was stuck at home for school and normal everyday life. Once in a while I would see his face on a poster, notebook, album cover, or even hear his songs on the radio; but none of that seemed to help me let go.

Liam apologized over and over again for not keeping in communication- I just had to shrug it off and tell them that it was alright. What was I supposed to do? Say ‘No, you left me here; I never want to see you again’? Of course not- he was still my best friend. We both knew that it would be quite a while until we saw each other again.

He said that he had a concert coming up in town this week though- which only made both of squeal into our webcams. Liam had managed to squeeze some VIP passes for me to see him- which was a blessing all in itself. Management wasn’t very keen on the idea, but apparently gave into his ‘irresistible puppy dog eyes’, as he explained to me.

So today is the day of the concert anyhow, and I’m waiting patiently for the gates to open for the venue. This may be my only chance to see Liam in a long time, but it was better than Skype. The other boys in his band had only occasionally popped onto screen once in a blue moon- but by now I know who all of them are.

Eventually the gate opened and thousands of screaming girls were filed accordingly into the venue. Let’s just say it was more than hectic- you could feel the energy and excitement radiating off of everyone. Soon the concert started as I watched to great relief as my best friend jumped ecstatically onto the stage. He seemed to be very close with other boys, which only made my heart swell even more. They sung What Makes You Beautiful and Little Things right away before quickly jumping off the stage to change on get water. Liam was the quickest, out in about 10 seconds flat! That must be some kind of record- but he spoke up quickly.

"Good evening guys! Thank you all so much for coming tonight, it's only just begun. I just wanted to give a shout out to my best friend. Come on I know you're out there..." his hand shaded his eyes as he scanned the crowd. Wait, he was looking for me! The realization hit me and I jumped up and down sporadically, waving my arms. Liam's gaze rested on me. "There she is!" He waved with a grand smile, "Love you!" I waved back giddily. The other boys joined him and they were off again to the next song. My cheeks felt hot with embarrassment. So many girls were now staring at me; some with envy, some with excitement, and some with pure hatred.

I tried to act like any normal fan girl, screaming, singing, jumping, clapping, crying- but it felt so odd to swoon over my best friend.

After a truly amazing concert, I made my way to the VIP lineup where I would finally get to see Liam again after so long. Many girls trailed in front of me, it would be a long wait. After what seemed like forever, the lineup dispersed and the screams grew quieter. Typical I was the last one in line. I finally approached the table and was greeted by four tired faces all glued to the papers in front of them. Harry took my book and said tiredly,

"Who do I make it out to love?" He didn't glance up.

"Jasmine." I smiled to him. As if on cue, all of the boys' heads shot up.

"Wait, you're Jaz? The one Liam wouldn't shut up about for the longest time?" They all seemed to fire the questions at me. I just smiled sheepishly.

"Yeah that's me, where's my Li now?"

"Right here, come on you guys! Move so I can at least say hi!" The boys all muttered apologies and shuffled out of the way with their gazes locked on us. Harry, Louis, Niall, and Zayn all signed my book and exited the booth to shower, leaving us alone to catch up.

"Jaz! It's been so long!" Liam reached over the table and pulled me into a tight hug. I smiled against him.

"I know! I've missed you Li-Li." I said.

"You wouldn't believe how much I've missed you," he ran a hand timidly over his head as a blush spread across his cheeks.

"Are you blushing?" This of course only made his cheeks get even redder. "Awe you are! But why?" I asked as he joined me on my side of the table.

"Because all this time apart made me realize just how much I really did miss you," he paused for a moment, "And it made me realize that I love you." My eyes opened in shock- Liam like me? That's not how best friends were supposed to behave! But to be honest, it's not like I never thought about him in that way either. He was attractive, funny, sweet, caring, supportive, and everything you could imagine in a perfect boy. SO I knew there could be only one response that would do our feelings justice.

"I like you too," and before he said anything else he pressed his lips to mine for a short, sweet kiss. It was as if all those years of bent up feelings had finally been released and the truth was out. We stood there just smiling brightly at eachother for a moment. "I always have."
