16. Harry and Julia- Beautiful Stars

Campers walked hurriedly to their cabins after a long day of activities. I was following them, alone. It had been a fantastic day, but nobody seemed to want to hang out at all. Looks like they all brought their own friends. Tonight was the bonfire, the first one of the summer! I was excited, that’s to be sure. I stepped lightly into my cabin where other girls hustled around.

“Which shirt looks better?”

“Ugh my hair’s a mess!”

“Who borrowed my make up?” The calls were heard everywhere. I dug through my bag and changed into a cleaner shirt that didn’t have dirt on it from the obstacle course. Still wearing my jeans though I brushed my hair again and when I turned around everyone was gone. They must have left without telling me that it started. I sighed and made my way out the wooden door. The sky was still darkening along the horizon and only a few stars could be seen twinkling above my head. I dug my hands into my warm pockets and sauntered across the large camp to where the bonfire would be held. There was bleacher like seats surrounding it, so that everyone could get a good look. I walked around, trying to find an empty seat, and letting out a huff when I couldn’t find one.

“Where am I supposed to sit now?”

“How about with me?” I whipped my head around under the bleachers where a dark figure sat on a  stump.

“Uhh... I’d like to SEE the fire, not sit in the dark. But thanks.” He laughed.

“I know a better place to watch it from.”

“And you are?” I crossed my arms protectively, this could be a weirdo just trying to get into my pants or something; I mean, why else would he be lurking under the bleachers?

“Harry,” he stood up and walked towards me. My breath instantly hitched in my throat as I stared up at him. His beautiful brown curls were swept perfectly to the side, and his green eyes glinted in the slight light that was visible. “And you?” He let out an award-winning smile, he had dimples. I felt my cheeks get hot as I noticed that I was staring.

“That’s a nice name. So let’s get a good seat before the fun starts.”

“Fun? Seats? Where?” I said giving him a skeptical look. Harry let out a chuckle.

“Just follow me.” I was tentative, but followed him into the mess hall. It was dark and I was worried something bad was going to happen.

“Harry? Where’d you go?” I felt something tighten around my hand and I let out a scream.

“Shhh, it’s just me! Come on,” He pulled my hand carefully behind him. Good thing he couldn’t see my burning cheeks. We walked up several steps. I had no idea where we were. I was about to ask him when he opened another door. I could see the light outside and I followed him out onto the roof. I stared bewildered above us at the twinkling stars. “

“Wow...this is great.”

“And...” he pulled my hand gently to the edge, “We have a great view of the bonfire.” I peered over the edge and saw the flames dance brilliantly a short distance from the building. At least we would be able to tell what was going on.

“This is great! Thanks for showing it to me.” I sat down next to him.

“No problem, better than coming up here by myself.”

“Why? Didn’t you have anyone to hang out with up here?”

“No I uh... don’t make friends easily.” I couldn’t help but laugh a bit. “What? What’s so funny?”

“Oh it’s just that... I’m the same. That’s why I was alone when I got to the fire,” I finished the last part sheepishly.

“Hey it’s alright. Now we have each other.” I let out a smile; finally it seemed that someone understood me.

“I take it this isn’t your first time at the camp?”

“No... second,” Harry chuckled, and I managed to find out about this place because the kids last year locked me up here until the next day when someone finally noticed that I was missing.” We both laughed. I lay bag against the flat shingles and stared up at the stars.

“They’re so beautiful,” I said contentedly. Harry lay down next to me and sighed.

“Yeah...” He seemed to be distracted so I turned to see what he was looking at, only to meet his green gaze. “But they aren’t as beautiful as you are.” I blushed brightly and turned away so he wouldn’t see.

“Hey now! No need to be shy,” Harry pulled my hand up to his chest. I tried not to notice how toned he felt under my palm. I realized how close we were suddenly and I saw him looking up at my eyes then flickering down to my lips. He leaned down over me gently and pressed his lips to mine. The sparks flew through the night sky as I wrapped my loose hand in his curls. A smile erupted on both our faces, and stayed there when we pulled away. I moved so that my head was lying on his chests and we both looked up at the sky, listening to the camp songs drift from below. I heard Harry’s raspy voice whisper once more before I fell asleep.

“They’ll never be as beautiful as you Julia...”
