1. An Autumn Morning

It was a beautiful autumn day as Sienna stepped out the door in her oversized tawny sweater and black tights, the cold nipping at her feet. She carried a book in her hand, as she sat down on the little wooden bench just in front of the window. She inhaled a deep breath, taking in the fall scent. Closing her eyes, Sienna dreamed of a place somewhere far off, beautiful, unreal to humankind. She had a large imagination. It never failed her.

As she opened her book to her page, her neighbour walked out. “Hey Si,” Harry said with a cheeky grin. “Whatcha up to?” “Hey Haz,” Sienna said, brightly. She glanced up from her book at his beautiful face. “Just taking in the fall and reading, the normal.”

Harry looked at the ground and rubbed the back of his neck, shifting his grey beanie up a little. “You gotta put that book out every once in a while, have some fun! You're such a party pooper! We gotta live while we're young!” He said, forming his lips into a pout.

Sienna giggled at him. “I'm sorry I'm not the type to go out getting drunk and partying! You can't blame me come on! Plus I've got as much humour as a dead slug.”

Harry chuckled. He walked over to her, Sienna scooting over to make room as he sat down. She closed her book marking her page, and stared into those gorgeous green eyes. It was always his eyes that pulled her in, making her realize how amazing he was.

“I'm sure you can be much funnier than that.” Harry said flatly. He poked Sienna's stomach and she flinched. “Harry! You know I hate that! I'm going to force feed you my dog's leftovers, if you know what I mean.” Harry let out a laugh.

“There's the Sienna I know.” He twiddled his thumbs, staring down with a faint smirk. Sienna shook her head with a little smile. This was the boy she'd known for 8 of her soon to be 18 years of life. Best Friends since day 1. This was the boy she'd always had a secret crush on. She let out a little breath as she curved a devious smile on her face. Harry looked at her, and after a quick second his face churned into that 'oh no' look.

“Si, what're you doing?” He asked slowly, standing up and backing away a few steps. “Oh nothing,” she replied, still looking devious.

“Please tell me you're not planning on stealing my hat.” “Nope.” Sienna grinned and shot up, stealing Harry's hat and trotting quickly to the edge of the rode. “NO! Sienna give me my beanie! I'm being serious!” Harry wailed as he chased after her.

After a few minutes of loud giggling, and a lot of running, Harry caught her. He wrapped his arms around her waist and Sienna stopped trying to get away. “Ha! Gotcha!” Harry exclaimed.

They were both in a fit of giggles, as Harry tried to reclaim his hat which was balled up in Sienna's hands pulled closely to her chest. He still had one arm locked around her, making Sienna feel butterflies shoot up in her stomach. “No!” she screamed as Harry got his hat back and ran away, replacing it on his head.

Sienna fell over with laughter, curled up on the autumn leaves. They crunched as Harry came and sat beside her. He crossed over his legs and leaned back. “I'm gonna get you for that, yanno.” He said with a chuckle. Sienna layed back still giggling. “Okay Harry, okay.” She glanced up at the sky, admiring it with her soft eyes. She stared at the clouds until Harry poked her.

“Let's do something.” He said, his eyes full of excitement and his grin wide, revealing those adorable dimples. “It's only 10 o'clock in the morning! On a Sunday! I'm not going out and doing something at this time, you're crazy.” Sienna replied, annoyed. “No, Si. Come, follow me.” He eagerly grabbed her hand and pulled her up, leading her around back.

“Haz, what are you doing?” She asked several times, only to be ignored. She rolled her eyes and walked with him. They stood in Sienna's backyard, at the back gate. “Um, Harry, I'm not going down there. I'm not going to the creek nuh-uh.” Sienna pouted.

“Please Si! Come on! It'll be fun,” Harry urged on. Sienna still held her ground and crossed her arms, unwilling to give in. Harry rolled his eyes and said “I promise I won't push you in this time...” Another minute passed, Sienna raising her eyebrow at him questioningly. “Okay, suite yourself!” Harry grinned and opened the gate, hopping down through the brush.

He was already at the little dirt path at the bottom when Sienna gave in and followed him, shouting for him to wait up. He watched her come down, waiting patiently. “Ugh, I don't know why I even hang out with you sometimes.” She complained. Harry closed his eyes and shook his head, smiling. “It's because you love me, you can't resist being without me and you know it.” He said jokingly.

Sienna knew this already, but she couldn't tell him that. Not after all this time, it was too late now. If she told him it might ruin their friendship. So she threw her head back with laughter and sarcastically said “Oh yeah, you know it.” They continued down the little pathway along the creek, to a shallow pool. It was almost like a mini beach, with soft sand and small pebbles everywhere.

Sienna crouched down and looked at the colourful little fish swimming about. She smiled. “Stop flirting with the fish and come over here.” Harry said holding a small, flat rock in his hands. Sienna giggled and walked over.

“What?” She said with a smirk. Harry skipped the rock across the water. “Do that.” He grinned, challengingly. “You're not serious are you?” Sienna asked with her eyes looking up at him, giving him that look that makes them think that they've done something crazy. “I can't do that! Haz, you're insane, literally!” She turned around to go back to the fish, but Harry ran in front of her and nudged her back over.

He waved his finger in his face. “Nuh-uh-uh. You're going to skip a rock. I'll teach you.” He said with a teasing tone and a little grin. Sienna sighed and watched as he picked up another rock. “Get a rock, Si. A flat one like this,” he said smiling.

Sienna looked around and picked one up. “Okay, here, I'll help you throw it.” He said.

Harry stood behind her guiding her arms. Sienna could feel her cheeks flushing red. She hoped Harry wouldn't notice. He thrusted her arm out as sh released the rock. Too bad it sunk as soon as it hit the water.

“I told you so!” Sienna bragged. “I told you I can't do it! And you even helped me!” she kept going on.

“Oh, shut up, will ya?” Harry said with that signature cheeky smile, once again. “You didn't throw it right, you weren't listening.” He told her as he skipped a rock.

“Still, Haz. It didn't make it. Haha.” Sienna said. She walked over to Harry and pinched under his arm, and stepped back. She stuck her tongue out at him, taunting him. She chuckled as Harry looked at her angrily.

“What was that for?!” He asked with pout in his voice. “A distraction to do this!” Sienna said.

She stepped forward quickly and tickled Harry. He was laughing uncontrollably. “Si-haha-Sie-ahahaha-Sienna! Hahahaha-Stop! Si! Haha! Stop!” He could barely talk a word without laughing as she kept tickling.

She stopped when she noticed Harry was laughing so hard he couldn't even breath through it. Sienna was laughing along with him, and by now Harry was a mess on the ground while Sienna leaned over him.

“You know I'm ticklish!” He said, making his bottom lip stick out. “That was the point.” Sienna replied with a smirk. “Well, you didn't have to try to suffocate me.” He said.

“Aaw, is poor little Harry upset because he can't take a little bit of tickling?” Sienna said mockingly. He laughed at her, mostly since her babyish tone of voice and the face she made while she said it.

Sienna helped him sit up, and they sat at the edge of the pond together. They talked about all sorts of things, funny things, weird things, normal things, school things, almost anything really. They were mid-way through a silly conversation of them mocking each other and how they talked when Sienna heard her Mum calling out for her.

“Looks like Baby Si has to go home. It's her bedtime!” Harry said, intentionally making fun of her. She put a smile on and punched him in the shoulder. His mouth made an O as he said “Oh, you're going to pay for that.”

Sienna stood up and crossed her arms. “How exactly am I gonna do that?” She said challenging him. He stood up too, looking her straight in the eye. “By giving me a hug.” He simply said.

“Oh my god, Harry.” Sienna laughed and hugged him. She always felt good when she hugged him. The way their bodies fit perfectly with each other. She felt at home in his hugs. Strange, yes. But true.

Sienna was definitely not expecting it when Harry yelled, “SURPRISE!” and lifted her up over his shoulder. She screamed and started kicking her legs and pounding against his back, but soon lost strength as she laughed harder and harder as he jogged down the path. They were both laughing when he let her down onto the ground.

“You're a fool!” Sienna exclaimed. “Don't do that!” Harry looked at her. “Well, you've got me twice today! You got off lucky with only that, Missy.” He said pointing his finger at her.

Sienna laughed and ran her fingers through the curls in her hair. She noticed how Harry's eyes flickered when she did, but she didn't really take much of it.

“Come on,” she said. “There's food, and I want it. Now.” Harry made a pretend scared face and said “Uh oh, I don't wanna get between Sienna and her food. Later!” With that, he dashed up the hill and into his house. Sienna laughed and walked slowly up the hill through the weeds and tall grass. She pushed open the gate, watching a bunny speed across the garden.

She smiled and went to retrieve her book from out front, where she then let a grin escape as she remembered that morning. She looked over to her right to see Harry on his porch, waving to her with his face in the most silly grin ever. She waved back, widening her eyes and stretching her smile. They both giggled and went inside to finish off their day together, talking online.
