4. Stolen and Introduced

"Okay. What kind of music do you like?" Kobe asked me as I took a bite of my salad.

I shrugged, then swallowed. "I don't really have a type."

"Okay . . ." He tapped his pen on the table. "What kind of music do you not like?"

No biggie. "Whatever I don't. I don't really have a specific taste. If i like it, I like it." I shrugged. "Um, excuse me!" I called to one of the Olive Garden waitresses.

"Hi!" she said, coming up to me with a smile. "Is there a problem?"

"Oh, no, everything's great," I replied, smiling back brightly. "I just wanted to ask for one chicken alfredo and a diet coke refill, please."

"No prob." She took my glass and walked away.

I turned back to Kobe; he was looking at me.

"What?"

"Favorite band?" he prodded.

"One Direction," I responded immediately.

"Favorite male solo artist?"

"Justin Bieber."

"Female?"

"Kesha."

Kobe nodded. "Now," he started, putting his pen down. "On a totally unrelated topic, who's your favorite member of One Direction?"

I shrugged. "I've never seen them before."

Kobe took on a serious look. He looked me straight in the eye. "Have you ever been to a concert?"

"For One Direction?" I asked. He nodded. "No," I said regretfully.

He smiled. "I can arrange for that." As I widened my eyes, he took out his Blackberry and phoned someone.

"Sarah," he said. "Buy me three tickets for the next One Direction concert. I don't care where it is, I'll take care of that. Just have the tickets by tomorrow, no matter what it takes."

Hanging up, he grinned at me.

My mouth was hanging open. "Are they backstage passes?" I asked carefully.

He nodded, and I couldn't help it; I got up and hugged him, jumping up and down excitedly. Realizing what I did, I quickly sat back down, fiddling with my hands.

"Here you go," the waitress said, coming back with a big, mouth-watering plate of chicken alfredo.

"Thanks," I said, digging in.

Kobe chuckled. "My, we have quite a bit of an appetite, don't we?"

I rolled my eyes.

And then choked on my food. Because there, coming through the door with four other boys, was the boy from the elevator. Zayn.

When he saw me, he smirked, said something to his friends, and started making his way over. I don't know what came over me: I started panicking, quickly swallowing my food.

"Trinity," he said, smile on his face. God, his eyes were beautiful.

I cleared my throat. "Zayn. What brings you here?"

His smile became more pronounced. "Just enjoying an afternoon with my bandmates, we're One Direction. You?"

"Just here with my manager." I gestured to Kobe, who stood up and introduced himself, shaking Zayn's hand.

"So that's One Direction," I murmured to myself. They were seated at a booth in the far corner. The one closest to me had really curly hair; he seemed proud of it, too. The guy next to him also had brown hair that covered his forehead. In front of Curly was a blond with brown hair on the sides; he obviously was a natural brunette. Beside him was another one with brown hair that had a slight blond tint to it. His hair covered his forehead, too. They were hot.

Zayn seemed surprised. "You've never seen One Direction before?"

"Nope."

"How?!"

I shrugged. "Just haven't."

He shook his head in wonder. Then he grabbed my hand, pulling me along with him.

"Hey!" I protested. "Where are we going?"

"To meet the boys. Why, you nervous?" he asked, looking back at me with a smirk.

I rolled my eyes. "No," I said bluntly.

He laughed.

"Hey, boys, I'd like you to meet someone," he said,  making them face him. "This is Trinity . . ."

He looked at me, not knowing my last name. I smirked.

"Just Trinity," I said before saying hello to everyone.

They just stared at me with stupid grins. Totally checking me out.

"Well, hi to you, too," I said sarcastically. They laughed. "And thanks for introducing me, by the way," I added.

Curly stood up. "Harry, Harry Styles," he said in a deep British accent with a cheeky smirk. I gave him a hug; I could smell vanilla.

The boy next to him came up to me, along with Blondie and the other brunette. Harry stepped out of the way.

"Louis Tomlinson," the boy that got up first introduced himself. I also gave him a hug, and then he moved aside with a smirk. I narrowed my eyes at him and Harry.

"Hi, I'm Niall Horan," Blondie said with a smile and an Irish accent. His crystal clear blue eyes were penetrating, yet somewhat beautiful. I hugged him; he smelled familiar, like Armani Mania--something my father used to use. Niall was, by far, the kindest.

The last to introduce himself, the other brunette, walked up with a  sincere smile. "Liam Payne," he said, holding out his arms. I smiled as he embraced me; he was very kind and civil, had more of an authoritative air about him. He, too, smelled really good.

Zayn smirked. "What, no hug for me? he asked, looking me straight in the eyes.

I rolled my eyes but gave in; I couldn't help it. He smelled so good my eyes almost rolled back into my head.

There was a chorus of woo's from the boys. I laughed and pulled away.

"You smell nice," Zayn commented.

"Yeah," the rest agreed.

I giggled. "Thanks, so do you."

It's possible to be normal with them, I noted. Just give them time.

"So, you gonna sit with us or what?" he asked, again looking me straight in the eyes.

I pointedly looked at Kobe--or, rather, where he was supposed to be. I frowned and looked around me, but he was nowhere to be found.

"Looking for someone?" Zayn asked with a smirk.

"Just my manager," I replied sarcastically.

"While you were being introduced to the guys, I took the liberty of handing him my number and telling him you were gonna eat with us. You can thank me later," he added proudly.

I stared at him, my mouth parted slightly. He stared back, the smug look on his gorgeous face slowly disappearing, replaced by a rather serious one.

I heard whispers and murmurs from the rest of the group; I knew that they thought we were having some sort of connection stare-down, but it was anything but. I was just surprised--surprised that he would clear my schedule to spend convenient time with him. And the boys, I quickly added mentally. He has a girlfriend.

Finally, I blinked and looked down, biting the inside of my lip. Well, there's nothing I can do now.

I looked over at the table. The rest of the band was already seated. However, Liam and Niall were now seated on the seats against the wall, looking very content with their decision. Which left only space for two more people on the back wall.

Great. I rolled my eyes and sat down.

Zayn sat beside me, so now he was on my left, Liam to my right, and Harry in front of me. I sighed, knowing I was going to have to order something or spend the rest of my lunch receiving weird looks from the boys.

There was an awkward silence between us, but somehow there was a slight electric charge on my left. I looked at Zayn to see if he'd done anything, but he was looking at me, too; probably checking me out.

I frowned, biting the inside of my lip. We just stared till the waitress came--the very same one serving Kobe and me.

She approached our table. "Hi, welcome to Olive Garden, my name is . . ."

She trailed off as her glance finally reached me and frowned. "Hey, weren't you . . . Whatever," she said, shrugging it off. "I'm Amanda, and what can I get you?"

We all ordered, and she bounced off, nodding her head and finishing writing down our orders. I looked at Niall; he had the biggest order. He caught my glance and shrugged, then smiled.

I looked away, gibing him a small smile back. Just in time to see Harry wink at Zayn. I turned my head to Zayn and saw that he was glaring at Harry, who only smiled cheekily in return. Confused, I looked away and around the restaurant, something I'd never done before. It was really nice, actually--the flora, the design, everything. I should come here more often, I thought.

"So, Trinity," Harry said conversationally. "What do you think of Zayn here?" He smirked, Zayn glowered, and I rolled my eyes.

I shrugged. "Don't really know you guys well enough to judge."

"You can't judge anyway," Louis said. "It's not nice, and I don't think Harry here would take too kindly to it, would you, Harry?" He smiled and pinched Harry's cheeks, who in turn tried to bite off his fingers. I giggled.

"Well," I said, "I guess I'll have the entire day to spend with you guys. I have no more schedule thanks to Zayn." I nudged him playfully, and he grinned down at me. It took every last ounce of my will to look away, not before smiling a small smile back.

His smile is beautiful, I thought. The way it made his eyes sparkle . . . Trinity, stop it. He has a girlfriend, I reminded myself.

Niall's eyes lit up. "Will you really?" he asked like a little kid on Christmas.

I laughed. "Apparently, if it's okay with you guys."

"Yes!" Zayn said quickly and happily, making me giggle. He then blushed, looking down. My heart melted.

"Now, now, Zayn," Harry smirked, wagging a finger. "What will Scarlett think about this?"

Zayn's head snapped up. "She's not my girlfriend," he snapped. Seems like he's had to repeat this a lot, I noted. Well, at least now I have a bit of insight on their relationship. Doesn't mean it's true, but you never know.

"So that's a yes?" Zayn asked the group, trying to seem careless about it but just barely succeeding.

They all laughed and said yes.k I smiled. They were like family.

While we waited--there was a lot to cook for five starving boys and a hungry girl--I surveyed the band. Louis was eating a carrot that he appeared to have pulled out of his pocket. I frowned, then moved on to Harry, who was checking out one of the waitresses. I giggled to myself. Niall was impatiently drumming his fingers on the table and licking his lips, obviously impatient for the food to come. Beside me, Liam's head was down, but I could hear him tapping away on his iPhone. Trying to be inconspicuous about it, I took a deep breath, sighed, and turned my head away, trying to look at Zayn. When I did, our eyes met, and this time I could not look away. His eyes just captured mine, and it was very hard to avert my eyes. When I finally mustered up enough strength to look down, I blushed, and he smiled and looked the other way, his leg bouncing up and down, his fingers drumming out the beat of their song Everything About You. A song I was very familiar with. I started humming it to myself.

"You have a very nice voice," Liam commented.

Shit, was I singing it out loud?

"Yeah," Zayn agreed. I looked at him. "Do you sing?" he asked, raising his eyebrows.

I laughed nervously. "Yeah."

"Are you professional?" Liam asked seriously, but with a smile.

I shrugged. "Dunno yet. I just got signed. I would have been professional if someone hadn't dragged me away from my manager," I said, pointedly looking at Zayn with wide eyes and leaning my head to the side.

He grinned, the smile so adorable I stared. This time, at least, I had a good excuse; now I could stare till he gave an answer.

Harry looked at us. "Zayn," he said.

Zayn unwillingly looked at him. "Yeah?"

"Remember that time we visited that farmer's place and he wanted us to ride his horses?"

"Oh, yeah, and you had to ride a cow because there weren't enough horses."

They all laughed at the memory. I even smiled a little.

"Okay," Amanda said as she walked up to our table with not even half our order. "Here you go." She handed us what she was carrying then bounced off with a quick "Be right back." Immediately, Louis and I began eating.

"Quite the appetite," Harry said; I rolled my eyes.

"You do that a lot," Zayn noticed.

I looked at him. "Do what?"

"Roll your eyes. Why?"

I shrugged. "I don't know. Guess it just becomes a habit around you guys." I took another bite, then swallowed.

Amanda came back, said she only had two dishes left for us, and bounced--there was literally no other way to describe it--off to the kitchen.

This time, everyone was eating--but the food that still wasn't here yet was for Niall. He ordered about five plates.

By the time the rest of his food came, we were all done. But somehow, he still had room for two more large plates of spaghetti and steak. I watched him in amazement as he finished it off in--I timed this--seven minutes. When he was done, I laughed.

"What?" he asked, sitting back and rubbing his belly.

"You really like food, don't you?" I asked in wonder.

"It's my life," he said simply.

I laughed again.

"We all set to go?" Amanda asked as she came back with the bill.

"Yep," Liam said, taking it and scanning it over before reaching into his back pocket and pulling out his wallet.

"Can I see that?" I asked, holding out my hand for the bill.

"Sure." He handed it over.

I skipped right down to the price. Then my eyes popped open. Almost six hundred euros.

"How much is this in American money?" I asked incredulously as Zayn took it from my hands.

Everyone shrugged. "Don't know."

"So nobody knows?" I asked.

They all shook their heads no.

I sat back in my seat and crossed my arms. "Wow."

Liam shrugged. "It's not as bad as it usually is."

"And what is that?" I asked, looking him straight in the eyes.

He smiled crookedly. "Can't tell you that. You'd freak."

I sighed. "I guess so."

"Let's go then," Zayn said quickly.

I half-smiled as we all got up.

I walked with them to their limo and climbed in. I was seated between Harry and Zayn; should be interesting.

"You know, I used to go fishing," Harry said, completely out of the blue.

I looked at him skeptically. "Really." I noticed the boys smirking. Except for Zayn. His face was unemotional.

Harry nodded. "Yup. Once, I caught a fish this big," he said, using his hands to show a size that wasn't that impressive. I raised a brow. "Then I caught one this big," he continued, the size of his "fish" getting larger. "And then I caught one that was this big!" The size of the fish got so big that he extended his arms on either side of him, then relaxed them so that his left arm flopped onto the seat and his right arm wrapped around my shoulder. I looked at him, shocked, but then realized what he did and burst out laughing, as did the others.

"Harry . . ." I gasped, still not quite done laughing. "That . . . was so . . . corny!" My laughter continued, and out of the corner of my eye I saw Zayn smile.

"You love it, really," Harry murmured in my ear.

I swatted him away, still giggling.

When I had finally calmed down--throughout my fit of laughter, Zayn's smile never faded--I noticed that the limo was still going.

"Where are we going?" I asked.

"To the hotel," Liam replied, never looking up from his phone.

Harry took his arm off my shoulder and pulled out his phone.

"For how long?" I asked suspiciously.

"Just until this evening," Zayn said, wrapping an arm around my shoulders and taking my hands in his. I had to admit, I liked the flirty side of Zayn--it made me feel like he wanted me.

In retrospect, it seemed like the others had almost the same feelings. Harry was the flirt of the band, that much I had figured out at lunch when he wouldn't keep his legs to himself. Louis, he didn't really act like he liked me--he just acted like I was his best friend. Sweet. Niall was just really nice, and Liam . . . he just cared for everyone.

I smiled to myself. I noted again that they were like family.

"You like this?" Zayn whispered in my ear, sending shivers down my back.

My smile grew more pronounced. "Totally," I said, flirting back.

He smiled against my ear. "You're beautiful," he whispered.

My heart stopped, my breathing stopped, everything seemed perfect. I wanted so bad to tell him that he was, too, but that would be just wrong--he had Scarlett.

Why is my life so complicated?! I mentally shouted at The Big Guy.

Instead of saying anything, I pulled away, snatching my hands away from his. I could see the other boys making faces like someone just got punched in the balls--which, I supposed, was kind of true, because when I glanced up at Zayn through the thick curtain of my hair, his face was confused and hurt. He quickly regained posture, though, and immediately acted like nothing was wrong.

I fought back the tears that began to well up. Why was Zayn doing this to me? He was already in deep with Scarlett, why would he play me like this? Boys always go for the pretty, skinny girls who wear a lot of makeup and have nice clothes and nice houses and cars. Not someone like me, someone who doesn't like looking like a crayola gang banged her face. Someone who, yes, has a flat stomach but is still self-conscious about her figure. Someone from a demented family, with a small car, and is not entirely rich. So why do they keep flirting with me? I wondered. Is it because I'm American? I was born here, but my parents only traveled here for means of vacation. Guess it was so wonderful that they decided to stay.

Or is it because of my curves? I thought idly. Maybe they liked what they saw . . .

No. Impossible.

"Whatcha thinkin' so hard about, babes?"

I was wrenched out of my morbid inner monologue by the sound of Harry's voice and the touch of his arm back around my shoulders.

"Nothing," I replied bluntly, shoving his arm away. I crossed my arms.

He held up his arms in surrender, leaning away from me. "Alright, just trying to be nice. Although, later, if you want, we could, you know . . ." He smirked.

"Enough, Harry," Zayn snapped.

Everyone looked at him, surprised, as if they had never heard him be this harsh before. But he ignored them all; he just looked out the window in brooding silence.

"Well," Niall said. "Someone's got a temper."

Zayn said nothing. Niall snickered.

I finger-combed my long brown hair, checking my highlights to see if they had faded yet; they hadn't. Then I checked my phone, looking at my Facebook, my Twitter, anything to keep my mind off Zayn.

Nothing was working.

Okay, I admitted to myself, suddenly deflated. I had a thing for him. Not a crush, but a sort of . . . claim. Scarlett prevented me from anything else, of course, but who am I to tell myself what to feel? The heart wants what the heart wants, I guess.

Sighing, I looked at him. His hands were at his side, clenched into fists, making his arms involuntarily flex. From what I could see of his face, his jaw was also clenched, his eyes hard. He looked dangerous.

I gently touched his wrist. When he looked at me, I looked back apologetically, a small smile on my face. It grew when he smiled back sweetly and took my hand.

This is okay, I thought as my heart jumped. Just an innocent gesture. Nothing more.

Sensing it was fine, I rested my head on his shoulder. Before closing my eyes, I checked my phone for the time, put it on my lap, and fell asleep.
