Like I Love You: A Zayn Malik Romance

Trinity Ross has always been a fan of One Direction. Not a superfan, but a fan. And she gets the chance to meet them--on accident. Bumping into Zayn Malik on her journey to fame has been the best thing that's ever happened to her. But complications due to fame have risen. Will they stick it out? Or will everything come crumbling down?

13. Reassured Insecuritues

"Cause even the stars, they burn. Some even fall to the earth."

I continued strumming my guitar, sitting on Zayn's bed in front of the camera that was rolling. I'd heard this song on the radio and immediately fell in love, and I couldn't wait to do a cover.

"I don't want to be someone who walks away so easily. I'm here to stay and make the difference that I can make. Our difference is, they do a lot to teach us how to use the tools I guess we got. Yeah, we got a lot at stake. And in the end you're still my friend. At least we did intend for us to work. We didn't break, we didn't burn. We had to learn how to bend without the world caving in. I had to learn what I got, and what I'm not, and who I am!" I sang loudly, singing the crescendo as best as I could. When the song eventually came to an ending, I thanked the camera--I was going to put this on YouTube--as I got up and stopped recording. I took the Kodak and settled back on the bed in the same position as before. Deciding that that was uncomfortable, I uncrossed my bare legs and turned around to lay on my stomach. I put the camera up on the pillows and played it over.

"When I look into your eyes

It's like watching the night sky

Or a beautiful sunrise

There's so much they hold.

And just like them old stars,

I see that you've come so far

To be right where you are

How old is your soul?

I won't give up on us

Even if the skies get rough

I'm giving you all my love

I'm still looking up

And when you're needing your space

To do some navigating

I'll be here, patiently waiting

To see what you find

Cause even the stars, they burn

Some even fall to the earth

We got a lot to learn

God knows we're worth it

I won't give up..."

"Wow," someone breathed from behind me.

Jumping slightly, I turned around after pausing the video to see Harry standing in the doorway.

I smiled. "What?" I asked, flipping around and sitting up, crossing my legs again.

"You're truly amazing," he said, walking over to the rolling chair to sit down.

I blushed, looking down. "Thanks."

"No, really, that was . . . that was incredible! You're even better without a microphone and stuff like that. It was like watching something right from heaven! It was like--"

"Harry, Harry, I get it," I laughed. "And thanks. It means a lot. Even though it wasn't that good."

His face dropped. "What?"

I shrugged. "I mean, I could have done better . . ."

Suddenly, he was right in my face. He grabbed my shoulders and shook me furiously.

"Trinity," he growled. "Are you serious? Do you not understand how . . . how perfect that was? As your best friend, you should at least believe me, I mean, I know you get like, thousands of compliments every day, but coming from your best friend, at least have some dignity."

My face hardened, and I pushed him away from me. "I do have dignity. I'm just really insecure about my singing, okay? Don't act like you've never been nervous about singing in front of anyone. I don't know if you've ever been caught singing your freaking heart out, but it's damn embarrassing. Sorry for the language, Haz, but that's just how I feel."

Throughout my rant, his face had softened. Now, it was just the smallest bit hurt.

"It's okay," he said, taking a step back. "I know how you feel. I'm sorry. It's just that . . . you're amazing, okay, and it's a bit frustrating how you don't believe anyone. Even Zayn."

I sniffled; a no-reason habit. "I know. And thanks. For the compliments, I mean. I'll try to accept them from now on, just for you."

Harry grinned brightly, and held his arms wide open.

When Harry Styles offers you a hug, and he's wearing a very comfortable, very warm jacket--grey, my favourite eye colour--would you refuse?

Hell no.

So I grinned back and hopped up to wrap my arms tightly around his torso, and he wrapped his around mine as well, burying his face in my neck.

After a couple seconds, I stepped back and whipped my bangs out of my face as I blew them away. "You know, only Niall is allowed to give Horan hugs," I said with a smirk.

Harry rolled his eyes, but was still smiling. "It wasn't a Horan hug. It was a Harry hug. Plus, you're comfy." He winked.

I laughed and pushed him away gently on my way out of the room.

I watched her as she walked out of the room, both of us smiling. She was incredible. Zayn was so lucky to have such an amazing girl.

I was about to leave when something shiny caught my eye; her metallic pink camera still sitting on her red pillow. I bit my lip, internally debating . . .

What the heck.

Walking over to her bed, I picked up the camera and looked at the mini screen in front of me. Her face was stuck in the most hilarious expression, and I bursted out laughing--silently, of course. She didn't need to know I was still in here.

When I finally sobered up, I checked back to see if anyone had heard me; not a sound in the house. What the heck? Where did everyone go?

I shook my head and turned back to the camera. I pressed play, and I heard Trinity's voice again, sounding as amazing as ever.

"I don't want to be someone who walks away so easily. I'm here to stay and make the difference that I can make. Our difference is they do a lot to teach us how to use the tools I guess we got, yeah, we got a lot at stake." Her voice changed key to fit the song: "And in the end, you're still my friend. At least we did intend for us to work. We didn't break, we didn't burn; we had to learn how to bend without the world caving in. I had to learn what I got, and what I'm not, and who I am!"

That crescendo . . . perfect.

I had to put this on Twitter.

I quickly turned off the camera and darted silently to the door. Poking my head out, I looked up and down the hall, seeing that nobody was out, except for Trinity; I could hear her watching TV in the living room.

I double-checked before tip-toeing down the soft carpeted hall to my room. Luckily, the door was ajar, and the hinges were as silent as a desert, so getting in and closing the door would be a piece of cake.

Mm, cake . . .

Focus, Harry.

Without making a sound, I entered my room and softly shut the door.

Shut the door . . . turn the light off . . . I wanna be . . . with you . . .

Dang it, Harry, get a grip! You're on a mission!

I sighed. Shaking my head, I walked over to my--very large--bed and sat cross-legged in front of my pillows.

I turned on my computer and plugged the camera up to it, then opened up Chrome. Sticking out my tongue in concentration--a habit I'd picked up from Zayn, as he does this when he tweets--I typed in the address for YouTube. Had to put it on there first before I could share it on Twitter. It was the only way I knew how to do it; nobody told me anything. Sigh.

I signed in using the 1D main account and uploaded the video, messing around with it a bit before officially posting it. I gave it the title, "Trinity Ross Cover 'I Won't Give Up'." Then I signed out and searched and watched the video, smiling at my handiwork. Satisfied, I put the camera back and joined Trinity in the living room, where she smiled at me as I sat beside her. We just sat there and enjoyed the best-friendliness that hung in the air, waiting for our friends to come home.
