Like I Love You: A Zayn Malik Romance

Trinity Ross has always been a fan of One Direction. Not a superfan, but a fan. And she gets the chance to meet them--on accident. Bumping into Zayn Malik on her journey to fame has been the best thing that's ever happened to her. But complications due to fame have risen. Will they stick it out? Or will everything come crumbling down?

12. Everything's Alright

"Za--yn, are--there?"

"Yeah, I'm here, Paul, where are you? Why are you breaking up?"

"Sor--ba--ad se--vice. H--ng on."

I waited a few moments, listening to the crackling of the speakers from my phone.

"Okay. Can you hear me now?"

"Ha ha, very funny," he said sarcastically.

"PAULY!" I shouted gleefully. "Where you been, Higginator?!"

"OW, DAMMIT, ZAYN, MY EARDRUM. I was visiting somebody and they live in a terrible reception area, that's all. Nothing to worry about."

I sighed in relief. "God, Paul, you had us all worried. Especially Trinity, she looked like she was gonna be sick."

"I'm sorry," he apologized, sounding really sincere.

A smile grew on my face. "It's okay. I love you, Pauly."

"Me, too, Zayn, really. Now, do you want to know what's going on for the next month or so?"

And with that, the conversation continued--with me occasionally making fun of the schedule...or him. To which he'd reply with a sarcastic or witty comment.

My smile grew more pronounced. Paul was okay.

"Zayn!" I heard Trinity call. My heart rate picked up, and a smile arose on my lips. "I'm back!"

"And I came with her!" another voice shouted.

I frowned in confusion, my eyes not leaving the TV. "Eleanor?" I asked, questioning her presence.

"No, Santa Clause," came a sarcastic reply. I rolled my eyes and got off the couch, turning around to see Trinity and Eleanor coming through the door with multiple--and huge--shopping bags in each hand. Trinity had a huge smile on her face.

I walked over to them and pretended I was going to help Trinity. She sighed in relief, but then gasped when I reached past her for the bags in Eleanor's hands. I grinned.

"That was rude!" Trinity gasped--falsely, of course.

"Sorry, babe," I replied. "I like Eleanor better." I winked at the both of them.

Eleanor frowned and her eyes widened. "Louis!" she shouted. "Zayn's being a freak!"

There were footsteps as we waited by the--still open--door; they sounded quick and urgent, then a Louis streaked through the room and stopped when it had the Eleanor in a deathly embrace.

"You leave my baby alone!" he screamed at me. He looked down at Eleanor, who had a huge grin on her face. "Did the creepy man hurt you?" he asked, in a fake serious tone.

Eleanor giggled while I rolled my eyes and took in my free hand the bags in one of Trinity's. She gave me a grateful smile and we walked over to the kitchen, where we set the bags on the island.

"They're so weird," Trinity said as she looked at the couple by the door, who were now hugging tightly. Trinity's hands rubbed her upper arms.

"Are you cold?" I asked, already pulling her into my embrace. Her hands stayed where they were because of how quick my reaction was. I could just feel her light shivering against my chest; she felt like a block of ice on the bare skin of my arms and through the light black fabric of my shirt.

"Lil' bit," she muttered against my chest.

I rubbed her back and kept her there, just enjoying the feel of her touch.

"Awh," I heard Eleanor coo. I looked over at her, and she and Lou were walking over to Trinity and me. "You two are so cute."

I didn't respond with anything but a smile and a kiss to Trinity's hair.

"So was Paul okay?" El asked as she set her bags on the island next to ours.

I nodded. "Yeah. Just a bad service area, was all."

She also nodded. "Good. Wouldn't know what to do without our Higginator."

"Well, we'd still have Pres--"

"It wouldn't be the same!" Louis trilled.

I felt Trinity frown a bit. "What's wrong with Preston?" she asked as she turned slightly in my arms, sounding offended. I adjusted myself so that my arms were resting comfortably around her--not that I wasn't comfortable, but she might be.

"Nothing," Eleanor said happily. "I love Preston. He's so nice."

Trinity raised her eyebrows, but otherwise let it go.

"So," she said, putting her hands gently on my forearm, letting me know that she wanted me to let her go. I let my arms go limp, and she walked over to Louis to give him a hug hello. When she stepped back, she continued. "What have you guys been up to?"

I knew what that question meant immediately.

"Baked chicken and mashed potatoes over rice," I recited proudly.

She smiled up at me and wrapped her arms around my waist lightly, giving me a quick kiss. "You're amazing," she said with a bright grin.

"Yeah, only cuz you love food," I joked.

"So you didn't make it?"

"No, because it's for dinner and it's only like three in the afternoon."

"Then who's making it?" she asked smugly with a grin.

I sighed. "Harry and Niall."

"What?" Harry shouted from his room.

"Shut up!" I yelled back over my shoulder.

The three in the room with me laughed, and I smiled.

"Awh, Zayn loves the attention," Trinity teased as she pinched my cheeks. I blushed at her touch and swatted her hands away.

"Damn, Zayn, you're worse than a girl," Louis chuckled.

"Shut up," I mumbled.

Trinity leaned up and gave me a kiss on the cheek. "You're so adorable," she said, still grinning.

I put my arms around her waist and gave her a proper kiss.

"Get a room," Louis said jokingly.

Reluctantly, I pulled back. "Don't act like you and Eleanor don't do some things," I said teasingly, having the satisfaction of watching them both blush.

"Zayn," Trinity reprimanded, trying to hold back laughter.

"Well, they're not denying, so it must be true!" I insisted.

"No, it's not!" Eleanor shouted, turning even redder, at the same time Louis yelled, "We haven't done anything!"

"Yet." I winked.

Trinity couldn't hold it anymore; she burst out laughing, stepping back out of my embrace so she could  hold her stomach. There were soon tears coming down her face, which was really red. I just watched and chuckled, fascinated with her beauty. Even Eleanor and Louis were laughing, because her laugh was infectious.

She was infectious.

And I was damn proud to call her mine.

"So," I said, putting my hands lightly on Zayn's forearms. He dropped them by his sides so I could hug Lou. We wrapped our arms around each other, then I stepped back and he put an arm around El's waist. "What have you guys been up to?" I continued, referring to dinner plans. I always asked them this when I went out.

Zayn perked up. "Baked chicken with mashed potatoes over rice," he stated, seeming proud of himself for some reason.

His expression made me smile; he was just too cute. I wrapped my arms around his waist and gave him a quick peck. "You're amazing," I told him honestly, my smile growing bigger.

He smirked. "Yeah, only cuz you love food."

I raised an eyebrow, still smiling. "So you didn't make it?"

"No, because it's for dinner and it's only like three in the afternoon."

"Then who's making it?" I said smugly.

He sighed, seeming defeated. "Harry and Niall."

Total Narry moment inside. I ship.

"What?" I heard Harry shout, from down the hall.

"Shut up!" Zayn yelled back, craning his neck back. That made Eleanor, Louis, and me laugh. Zayn smiled down at me.

I pinched his cheeks. "Aw, Zayn loves the attention," I teased. He blushed and hit my hand away.

"Damn, Zayn," Louis said, chuckling. "You're worse than a girl."

Zayn blushed a bit more and mumbled, "Shut up."

My heart swelled, and I couldn't help but let out a tiny giggle. I stood on my tiptoes and kissed his cheek. "You're so adorable," I said adoringly.

Instead of answering, Zayn wrapped his arms around my waist and connected our lips. I was just getting into it when Louis, of course, had to interrupt.

"Get a room!" he yelled, pretending to gag.

I rolled my eyes as Zayn pulled away. He didn't seem to notice his arms tighten around me, but I sure as hell did.

"Don't act like you and Eleanor don't do some things," he said suggestively with a smirk.

I tried my hardest not to laugh as El's and Lou's faces went cherry red. That was extremely suggestive. But I couldn't deny it was freaking hilarious.

"Zayn!" I scolded, the laughter unfortunately clear in my voice.

"Well, they're not denying it, so it must be true!" he persisted.

Eleanor and Louis turned even redder than before. Eleanor shouted, "No, it's not!" at the same time Lou said, "We haven't done anything!"

"Yet," Zayn said with a smirk and a wink.

Finally, I couldn't hold it anymore; I laughed full-on, so much that I had to let go of Zayn to clutch my stomach that was already hurting. I couldn't breathe because the laughter took over almost completely. My face felt as though I just put it under a waterfall because of all the tears. Zayn was chuckling, too, and soon Louis and Eleanor were, too.

It was times like these that I really appreciated the turn my life had taken.
