Round the Corner

"Everything is perfect the way it is. Why do you want to change that?" He whispered to me as his strong arms found their place around my shoulders. "I don't want anything to change Harry," I whisper back intertwining my fingers with his. But everything has already changed. And there's nothing I can do about it.

This is a story centered around Harry Styles from One Direction.

3. Drowning

The wind started to pick up as I try to follow the instructions I had written down on my hand this morning, after mystery boy and left a message with directions on my answering machine.

The freaking bookstore was forty-five minutes away, and I had to walk the whole way there.

I could've taken a cab. But no I decided to wear out a perfectly good pair of Toms and walk. My thoughts tend to be my outlet for overreaction.

Oh and whining, can't let the normal people see just how whiny I really was. I'd be so lonely if I blurted out everything I was thinking.

Or committed.

Just as soon as my feet were about to give out, I turn a corner and the coffee shop was just up ahead.

I lean against the building across the street from the quaint little bookshop, gathering my wits before facing my perplexing phone thief.

Just go in, demand the phone, and leave. That’s all that there is too it. Simple.

I shake my head and breathe in deeply as I cross the street and walk through the front door.

A bell chimed my entrance. The place had a nice amount of people bustling around, reading and chilling with a cup of coffee.

“Are you Maddie?”Someone asked quietly from behind me. I turned to see a very tall boy in a white t-shirt, black jeans and a green beanie looking down at me.

His voice is even deeper in person… and extremely familiar. I quirk my head to the side as I cross my arms over my chest. “Have we met before?”

He smiles with the left half of his mouth, a dimple showing.

I gasp taking a small step back in my surprise. He’s the cheeky boy from the alley! “You’re the one from the alley, aren’t you?”

Yeah, the one that found your tampon, I remind myself, mentally rolling my eyes at the randomness of my thoughts.

He started laughing, his green eyes crinkling at the edges sending my heart into overdrive. How come I never noticed those eyes? Or that smile? I don’t think I am ever going to be able to forget them.

“I’m surprised you didn’t figure it out before now. You did lose the phone in the alley… where you left me.” I stared at him in disbelief- well some disbelief; it was mostly just nice to watch the way his mouth moved. “Come on, I have a table just over here. We can sit and talk a bit.”

His hand found the small of my back as he led me to a corner of the shop.

The place was more of a Starbucks in its atmosphere. Coffee was sold at the front along with little snacks, but the rest of the building was full of bookshelves and comfy places to sit. The table was mostly hidden from the rest of the store, leaving us in moderate privacy.

His hand pulled away from my back to pull out a chair for me. I muttered a small “thanks” in response, already missing the warm touch. There was an awkward pause where neither of us said a word.

What was I here for again? I asked myself as I gazed into the green orbs of my handsome stranger. “Uhm,” I began shaking my head for clarity. “You probably already know my name is Madeline, but I don’t know yours.”

He smiles again, those dimples making my heart skip. “Harry,” he replied simply taking a sip of the drink in front of him.

Looking down at his drink I said the first thing that popped into my head. “What? I don’t get some coffee?” I froze, mentally slapping myself in the face as he made a choking sound and started to laugh.

Well that was clever. “No, I mean I’m going to go get some coffee.” Faster than my feet allowed I stood and stumbled my way to the front. I cupped my face, my hands almost burning from the warmth radiating from my cheeks. Wow that was stupid. Beyond stupid. That was just plain ridiculous.

As I stood in line to get coffee I suddenly remembered why I was here in the first place. His stupid green eyes made me forget the fact that he stole my phone. And his laugh.

Don’t forget those dimples. They practically scream “Drown in me!”

My order was called, and I couldn’t hold sitting back down any longer. He was hunched over his phone when I sat down.

I didn’t dare look at his face in fear I would lose my train of thought. “So can I have my phone now?”

“Yeah, about that…” He trailed up and I was forced to look at him. “What?” I ask frowning.

He looked down rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. “I sorta left it back at my flat.”
