4. The letter of doom

I'm here. I made it. It all seems a little clearer. Like my head has been lifted out of the clouds. And do you know what? I squealed. I was sitting there on my bed when a woman with an ID badge handed us a letter. It was just after we had finnished the three course meal held for every one in the canteen come restaurant down stairs. We had kept to our selves down there, but we were also anxious to giggle and gossip about the competion afterwards

"Did you see him- he was fiiine,"

"Emma! No fretenising with the enemy," I giggled

"I want to no what were doing in the competition, they haven't even told us!!!" Bex whined.

Write on cue there was a curt knock and a young woman about 20 with her short, brown hair pulled back handed us a letter. "all you need is inside that, if you have any questions, use the number on it to call us on the hotel phone," She seamed rehearsed and placid. I felt almost childish next to her.

I wondered what it was like to be her- she probably said the same thing to one direction. he never knew who would become famous- it must be strange. She doesn't need to worry about us though- were not that good. Ha! me, famous. I'd be one of those singers every one forgets.

"Oh my days, have you heard that new song by enlightened! Bex is amazing and soo pretty, and Emma- she's so fiery, she was in all the magazines the other day- she's so wild! oh yea....and who's that other one???"

I nibbled my lip, unwilling to open the letter... I still couldn't believe what was happening...

"Oh, just open it!!!" Emma ripped open the letter unable to contain her excitement.

"Dear lucky contenders of X factor" She read out...

"You have made it through the first roumnd and we hope you are enjoying your stay at the X factor house.... but your time may be running out. Excersize your vocal chords and limber up as tomorrow you shall be asked to perform the second televised part of the show where half of you shall be eliminated. Afterwards there shall be a party held outside that shall also be televised. Enjoy your stay."

With it was a schedule, badges, passes and other variable items. It finally clicked.

I'm here. I made it. WE made it. How? Dear lord, don't ask me- I'd be the LAST person to know. But maybe this is my chance. Not to become famous, but to become ME. To become more interesting and well... wild??? Ha! Lacey jane, wild? Hey ho, if it all gos wrong. I'll just blame it on Emma! I felt like myself again. this is IT. oh. my. life. Everything Emma had said seamed so apt now.

So I was sitting there, watching Bex worrie and fuss, organise singing practises and writng a plan of action. Watching Emma squeal with excitment, burbling on random nonsense. And I squealed. squealed I never do that!

"We've actually done it, haven't we?" I smiled.

"Yes" Emma basically screamed- over joyed I was taking her side with this. "WE have, We have, We have!!!"

I felt like a million butterflys were rshing through my stomach. Pure excitment. I couldn't believe it. It reminded me of the feeling I got on Christmas eve before I grew out of the whole christmas charade.

"Guys," Bex's voice finally registered and she threw her hands in the air. "CONCENTRATE!" Woah. It was rare that Bex ever voiced her own opinions, let alone raising her voice! Better shut up.

"We may not stay here if we don't practice... we pulled it off last time, but can we do it again?" She sounded doubtful. Although I disagreed profusely for the sake of my own happiness, I still had no chioce but to realise the blatently obvious...

"Did it say anything about the task?" I nudged... I don't remember the letter saying any thing.

"Oh.. yea" Bex hesitated..."It didn't" She looked crest fallen.

"Oh crap," Emma closed her eyes.

This is going to be a

long

long

night.
