Chapter 1

Scarlett’s POV

It was just a normal day. I was on my way home from school. Just like every other day, I stopped at the local creamery to grab a large chocolate milkshake. They always seemed to be a band aid to whatever emotional wound I had received at the hell hole that day. Not a cure, but a quick fix for the time being.  I was waiting at the counter when I saw the flyer:

My milkshake had arrived while I was reading and I hadn’t even noticed. I was too busy trying to find a pen to start filling out the form to notice the very impatient waitress awaiting me to tip her. I finally noticed and flashed a big fake smile and managed a sorry that sounded a bit too sweet. She didn’t seem to appreciate my apology, but I was too busy scribbling my basic information onto the form to care. You see, One Direction was my favorite band. I had been in love with them while they were still on X Factor in the UK. And as hard as it was for me to pick, Harold Edward Styles had stolen my heart with his dark curls and those green eyes almost identical to the shade of my own. And of course, that beautiful voice that just oozed sex appeal, even when their songs were far from the subject. And he had a very dry, almost sadistic sense of humor, much like myself. I think that was really the winning trait. I loved a guy who could make me laugh.

Anyway, I’m getting ahead of myself. I finished filling out the form and almost dropped it in the bin before performing my normal good luck ritual. Anything I felt needed some good luck, I drew a 4-leafed clover on. Just a small one in the corner, nothing major. So far, it had worked. I knew the chances of it working this time were incredibly slim, but it couldn’t hurt.

As soon as I dropped my entry form into the bin, a woman in a very expensive looking black pantsuit came in. I knew right away she was there to pick up the entries, and I thought my luck was already turning out for the better, I had just barely made the deadline.

She was in and out before most even had the chance to notice her appearance at all. Had loads more bins to pick up, I was sure.

I finished my milkshake and left, headed home to start on my English assignment. Normally I didn’t like homework, but this was a writing assignment. Writing was my passion. Graduation that coming May couldn’t come fast enough, I was headed off to college far, far away from this dreadful place I had called home all 17 years of my life. I was beyond ready for a change, a bigger life. I knew more was waiting for me, I just had to get through this year. Just one more year at that hell hole, and I could live my dreams and become somebody while everyone else stayed here and got to be miserable with their small town lives.

Like I said, just a normal day. But, unbeknownst to me, it was one of the last normal days I was going to have.

Harry's POV

It was just a normal day. Well, a normal day in the life of Harry Styles, that is. A normal day as a massive pop star. Not the definition of normal exactly, but this was my normal. Was.

It was early Friday morning, I was mad at the world for having to get up as usual, and as soon as I had come in to Elizabeth's office, she told me to sit and start reading, she needed my help picking the lucky winner.....

"Luck winner? For what?"

"Uhhhhh, the contest? Didn't Shawn tell you?"

"No. He didn't. What kind of contest?"

"Oh my. Well, don't be mad. He was supposed to have told you weeks ago. I really don't know how you haven't heard about it yet though. It's all the fans are talking about."

"Damn it, Elizabeth. You better tell me what contest you are reffering to. I am in no mood to play games."

"Well... Read for yourself."

She handed me a flyer and the first line had me fuming.

"ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! NOBODY CONSIDERED GETTING MY CONSENT BEFORE STARTING THIS CONTEST?! YOU'VE ALL LOST YOUR DAMN MINDS IF YOU THINK I'M GOING THROUGH WITH THIS NOW!"

"Harry, please. Just calm down for a minute."

"CALM DOWN! YOU HAVE ME GOING ON A DATE WITH A STRANGER THAT WON A CONTEST THAT I KNEW NOTHING ABOUT AND YOU WANT ME TO CALM DOWN?! FUCK YOU!"

"Okay that is quite enough Harry."

She was right, I realized quickly. It wasn't entirely her fault. I would have a talk with Shawn later.

"I'm sorry Elizabeth, its morning. Excuse my rudeness. Now, hand me some of those forms. Let's get this over with."

The sheer number of applicants absolutely baffled me. Even now, I still wasn't quite used to all of the fans and how devoted they all were. It was truly amazing. I was becoming very bored with the process, we had been sitting here doing this all day and the time that I was supposed to call the winner to officially "ask her out" was nearing. I was now only reading the part where they were asked why they deserved to win. 90% of the entries had said they deserved to win because they were my biggest fan and had loved me before One Direction even formed officially, and the other 10% left the lines blank.

Then I came across one that caught my eye. It had a clover in the top right corner, cute. I started to read her answer:

"'I'm not sure that I would use the word "deserve." I don't think anyone deserves to win a date with him. I probably shouldn't even be picked to win. I am sure there are girls who have entered that are much bigger fans than myself and would kill for this chance. I am entering because I am a fan of One Direction and of Harry Styles in particular. I believe he is a very talented boy and I would love to get to know him and his personality, and of course winning this "date" would provide me with that opportunity. I am delighted at the chance to win and I sincerely hope I haven't just dug myself a hole by my statement.

Thank you for your consideration.

Scarlett

"Elizabeth, I believe  we have a winner."
