22. Revelations

“Christian may I come in now?” A woman’s melodious voice drifted into the room. Christian glanced at me, raising an eyebrow. I nodded slightly.

“Yeah, it’s okay now.” Christian said.

The door creaked open and his mother stepped into view. Elizabeth Watson, surveyed the room, as if she were checking to see if any more damaged occurred to her son’s room. Long black hair cascaded down her shoulders, in loose waves. Her skin was pale like Christian, she also had blue eyes. Her petite slim frame made her appear fragile, yet she carried an air of strength around her. I gulped. I stood up from the bed, she turned her full attention on me. She smiled warmly, sticking out her hand. I walked to her and placed my hand into hers, I expected the coldness so I didn’t shy away from it. I gripped it firmly and smiled at her.

“It’s such a pleasure to meet you, I hoped I didn’t give you too much of a scare before.” She told me, letting go of my hand. We stood facing each other.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you too. Thank you for allowing me to stay over and talking everything out with my mother. I’m sorry for my rude behavior earlier, I didn’t know it was you.” I told her, feeling ashamed.

“It’s perfectly alright dear, I don’t blame you for being shaken up, after all you’ve been through.” She told me kindly. Her kindness and warmth made me feel safe.

“Thanks…” I stood there, not sure what to say next. Christian immediately rose up from the bed to stand next to me.

“Is everything under control?” He asked, locking eyes with his mother. She didn’t say a word, at first I didn’t think she heard Christian, until he replied “Okay I understand.”
Bewilderment overtook me, until Christian turned to me tapping the side of his head. Oh yes he could read minds, I almost forgot, silly me.

“Madison, would you like to meet the rest of the family? I promise you, you are safe here.” Elizabeth asked.

"I would be honored Mrs. Watson."

“Please feel free to call me Elizabeth. No need to be formal with me. I may be a bit older than other mothers but I think I’m…what’s the word nowadays?…Funky fresh?” She replied, I giggled.

Christian groaned, mortified, "Elizabeth.”

“Well I tried. Anyways Madison, I bought you the clothes your mother gave to the Sheriff. We have towels here if you'd like to take a shower then you can come down, meet the family, and we’ll have dinner. Is baked ziti okay? I could make something else if you’d like.”

“Okay, sounds like a plan. Baked ziti is my favorite, I make it all the time at home.” I told her, Elizabeth was kind, it made me feel at ease.

“Christian go grab a washcloth, towel, and sham-” Elizabeth’s sentence wasn’t even completed before Christian returned with all of the items and my clothes. I gawked in amusement, I’d failed to realize he’d gone before he returned. He grinned at me, obviously pleased to have stunned me. Elizabeth frowned, “There is no need to show off. Next time go a little slower at least give Madison’s senses a chance to catch up. No offense of course.”

“Oh of course not, none taken. I don’t want you guys to act different around me just because I am a guest…or because I’m human.” I added sheepishly.

Christian put an arm over my shoulder, pulling me closer to him, grinning.
“Madison take your time okay? See you downstairs in a few.” Before I could say ‘okay’ she walked out of the room briskly.

“She thinks you are a very brave young woman, and she likes you. She thinks you're an angel."

"Really?" I asked, embarrassed.

"Yes, she's right. You are an angel. My angel."

He turned facing me, placing his hands on both sides of my head. “Don't move.” He instructed. Very slowly he closed the distance between our faces and planted his lips on mine. I kissed him gently this time enjoying his lips on mine, I stood on my tip toes wrapping my arms around his neck. Christian wrapped his arms around my waist, and for a moment time froze. Regretfully, I broke the kiss first, leaving him momentarily stunned.

"Looks like this time, you're the one who had to get me under control." He joked.

I chuckled. “Yes it does.” I said, “Now please leave so I can take a shower to meet the rest of your wonderful family, or else I might attack you again.”

Christian left the room, leaving me alone. I raced to the bathroom, I didn’t want to keep the family waiting. After the shower I dressed into the jeans and purple shirt my mother sent me. When I came out of the bathroom there on the bed sat Christian, patiently waiting for me. We didn’t say a word, instead we smiled at each other. He reached out his hand for mine, I grabbed his hand as he led me out the room. We walked down the long hallway passing by many paintings on the wall. The paintings appeared to be very old, and were paintings of many things- people, places, even objects. Whoever painted these had incredible talent, I thought. We slowed down as we descended down the huge marble staircase, Christian and his family definitely were wealthy people. Their wealth struck out everywhere, from the tiny sculptures, sky high ceilings, to the crystal chandelier that should’ve been inside a five star hotel instead of a home.

We fell back into silence, stepping into the grandiose living room, where his family sat down. I stared at the man sitting next to Elizabeth. He was gorgeous, my eyes did a double take, unwilling to believe his beauty. I assumed this was Dr. Watson, who technically was more than a hundred and thirteen years old, but looked like he was in his mid twenties. With short light golden brown hair, bright green eyes and a megawatt smile it made perfect sense the nurses wish they could trade places with his patients.

“Madison, it’s nice to meet you. I'm Christian's dad, Nathaniel. How are you feeling?” He asked.

He reached out, shaking my hand firmly into his. He smiled. Meanwhile, I tried to find my voice.

“Dr. Watson. It’s finally nice to meet you too, I feel fine, thank you for everything you’ve done. My mother and I appreciate it.” I managed to say.

“It was a pleasure. We’re happy that you’re okay, are you ready to eat?”

I nodded my head, and followed them to the dining room where Emilia and Lucas were setting up the table. The spacious dining room, was bright due to the glow of a huge chandelier hanging directly above the dining room table. The dining room was modern but yet held a traditional feeling to it, the table itself looked ancient.
